Hello,
I'm wondering what next steps I should be taking as when I filled my I-751 in June of 2021 I received a 24 month extension to my I-551. Based on the extension given it will lapse as of March 7, 2023. I have started filling out my I-400. I tried requesting a status update online but since we are still just within the 24 months it wouldn't send one through. Should I send additional information and pictures showing that yes my husband are in fact still married hoping to to maybe say hey don't forget about me and approve this?
Looking for any and all suggestion.
Thank you in advance!

Plane tickets in passports name. Use green card to enter the US. Bring marriage certificate in case.
this has been talked about a lot
Thank you for the quick response!
I guess I was just questioning if I should kill two birds with one stone and do it on my trip but if it’s as easy as just travelling with my marriage certificate then that seems the route to go. Travel always concerns me with stories of people not getting back in.
Alternatively I’m assuming if I cross the border by land aka drive it would be just the same, right?

Hey!
I have plans to travel in the near future and it is somewhat time sensitive all of a sudden. Currently my passport and green card have different surnames listed as I have been unable to change my passport until just now. I initially would have had more time to do this from the US and have it here in time for travel but my timeline has been pushed up by a month.
Have you ever travelled while your surnames did not match on these documents? Should I buy a one way ticket under my maiden name and have my name on my passport changed while home in Canada? Or is it best to just bite the bullet and submit my passport from the US and wait the 20 business days to get it back.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Hello,
I have now received my AP and EAD card, hooray! Currently I have not yet updated my passport to reflect my new surname but my AP/EAD card shows that name. My question is if I was to book a flight outside of the US would I be able to book using the surname on my passport and just provide a copy of my marriage license along with my AP/EAD card or will I need to apply for a new passport so that it matches before travelling?
Thank you for your help!

please compare the shipping costs to being it here with the cost to buy a new one.
I'm not concerned with the shipping costs, I will be driving down with it myself.
I am only wondering if, like shipping a mattress into Canada, you would bed required to it cleaned/fumigated and certified. I was unable to find anything like this for going into the US so I thought I would ask.
-
I've seen that unless cleaned and certified you cannot bring a mattress into Canada but does this apply to the US st all?

I know the first thread on this forum is for EI but none of the links work anymore to Service Canada. Does anyone happen to have currents ones?
Also how was your experience in applying for those who have a K1 visa?

Mine seemed quick. Interview on Wednesday the 14th and my passport arrived today Tuesday the 20th.
-
My appointment was for 8:30 but since I arrived in that morning at 2am I decided to go early to my appointment which worked out in my favour. I arrived to the consulate at 7:10 where there were already a handful of people lined up waiting. The doors opened just after 7:30 where we were let in one at a time. Even though my appointment was not scheduled until 7:30 I was given a number and ended up being the first K1 interview of the day. I was in and out just before 8:30. So I would recommend arriving early, don't bring any back packs or large backs as they will turn you away to go lock them up elsewhere and make sure you are organized. During the first portion where they ask for documents don't be afraid to offer more if you have it as they will take it even if they didn't ask for it. The actual 'interview' portion was very quick and just some fairly basic questions. I flew out that same day at 4pm so a day trip is doable just give yourself a good window.
Good luck!

Nice congratulations! What time was your interview? I may have met you in the interview room.
I was the very first interview of the day

We got approved! I already got the notification from Canada post my stuff is on the way and will be arriving on December 20th! Thanks for all the help everyone!!
Same here!!

Where will you be coming from? I'm from edmonton and to save money on hotel, food and transportation I did day trips.
For my medical I flew to Vancouver all in one day with no issues.
For Montreal I left Tuesday evening to arrive at 2am with my appointment at 8:30 at the consulate. I arrived at 7:10 to the consulate and ended up being the first K1 of the day getting bumped up to 7:30 and finishing my whole appointment even before my scheduled appointment. Then that evening I flew home at 4pm.
Yes too flights but with planning ahead you can get cheaper flights and it is still way less than having to stay nearly a week in Montreal

Thanks for sharing your experience. It would be helpful to me. yes mine immigration visa category is also under F2A (Spousal). My case PD is on March 31, 2015 and now they are doing until Feb 22 and Jan month they will doing until March 22 PD's file. So I might be getting interview in Feb. I heard very good feedback from Dr Cheema's clinic however I won't make it as I am living in Edmonton so it's not a make sense at all to go all the way down to Vancouver and then go to Montreal for interview.
Are you able to pick up your passport back from Montreal Consulate?
I actually went to Dr Cheema in Vancouver and I'm out of Edmonton as well. In the end it actually was cheaper when you think of what the cost of staying in Montreal is as to doing a day trip only to Vancouver and having them send you the results. I think the medical is also cheaper in Vancouver.
I did a day trip to Vancouver on the 1st to Vancouver and flew through the night to Montreal arriving today for my interview and flying back to Edmonton this evening. It's totally doable and was only $1000 total for both flights and I booked last minute.
I arrived early for both my medical and interview and had them completed before my actual scheduled appointments. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
For today's interview I arrived at 7:10, went in just after 7:30 and was out of there at 8:30 since I was the first interview even though my appointment wasn't scheduled until 8:30.

Awesome! Best of luck to you. I'm kinda nervous myself and also can't wait to take a break from being in visa limbo at the same time. The 14th can't come soon enough!
How did your interview go?
-
My interview is on the 14th too, prepared but still nervous!

I have been checking since November 8th, there haven't been any open dates, or dates released since then. They haven't released any January/February dates yet. I'm looking to get a Jan or Feb interview. Hoping they release them soon, I'm getting antsy too.
I grabbed one of the very last December ones they had showing earlier this month as a back up plan but now it's looking like what I'll have to use. I don't know if I can wait for January dates to be released but I also haven't booked my medical or any flights for the December interview. Fingers crossed!
-
Hey, has anyone been able to book an interview in January? I had booked one for December 14th but want to reschedule for January. I'm getting nervous if I should just take what I have and book flights and everything else or continue to wait. It's bit of a time crunch though.
-
I followed Ash.1101's advice and sent an email simply saying "I cannot schedule until after my expiration date so I am requesting an extension on my NOA2" and they said they will extend the petition at the time of my interview and a reminder I need to have a current intent to marry letter.
Thank you! I will do the same. I'd be so lost without the great people on here!

I emailed Montreal with a question on September 29 and again on October 12. I have not received any response aside from the automated receipts. It only took them three days to approve my DS-160 application though. Does anyone have any experience with contacting them after DS-160 approval?
Also, this was my question:
"Hello,
I am wondering if it is possible to book my immigration interview for early January 2017. I see I can currently only select dates in November 2016.
I also wonder if this is possible as my NOA2 letter says it is only good until December 11, 2016.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you."
I am not moving until March (mostly due to financial reasons) and would rather have my interview in the new year if possible.
Hello, I was wondering what the outcome of this was. I am in a similar situation and can't seem to find any reliable sources on weather I can book past the validity date on my I-797 (NAO2). I've tried emailing the consulate but have yet to hear back and time is running out for me as well as available dates.
-
It is not uncommon for COs at the interviewing embassy/consulate to extend the validity date of the approved visa petition in order to finish processing the petition. Check out the DOS FAQs for that and more info.

Thank you. Unfortunately I did not find anything on the website that helped on this topic specifically.

They can courier them back to you. But you can pick them up next afternoon.
Really? Is that only in Vancouver? I keep reading that it takes 3 business days for the results.
I'm looking for my best options at taking as little time off from work with also not killing me in travel costs. Fly to Vancouver for a day get the results couriered to me and then fly to Montreal overnight for the interview. That would save a lot on food an accommodations if possible as well as only two days away from work rather than 4-5.

You need to have an interview booked by the end of the validity date. The interview date doesnt need to be by then, just booked by then. Clear as mud?
Thank you so much! Is there anywhere I can find this online or do you just know from experience?
It helps so much really because going in January won't be a problem but December would be really hard to swing if I wanted to keep my job haha!

I'm sure this is a dumb question but does the I-539 application to extend/ change status apply here or is that for different cases? When I tried calling USCIS to request the 48 month extension letter I couldn't ever get through to anyone and they just sent me the link for this form.
