  1. Hi

Thanx for the information. There is other thing ,police clearance

I used to live in uae but not anymore so do i still need to ask for the police clearance of previous years in uae .so is possible to get it as well? What i mean is i am not uae resident at this moment .

    Thanx for help

Yes, I believe you need the clearance because per USCIS instruction you need police clearance from all places you've resided after age 16.

  2. My fiance is processing out of ABD and our NOA2 came 89 days later without RFE. Our NVC wait was 23 days and it took 11 days for case to be ready and I think that was due to 4th of July holiday and Ramadan.

Just hang in there. I know it's tough but thankfully ABD processes quickly and lets you schedule your interview yourself (they have multiple appointments open throughout the month) so after NVC it will hopefully be less waiting and more in your control ;)

    Good luck :)

  3. We also didn't hear anything from the embassy but proceeded with booking and paying for our interview and completing the DS-160. We started collecting the documents per VJ guidelines and what other VJ users that processed through ABD advised us to prepare.

My fiance also ended up finally contacting them and they're pretty responsive via email. I suggest reach out and email them. In the meantime, get your paperwork together such as your police clearance and completing your DS-160 and getting the petitioner to complete the affidavit of support (form i-134).

  4. The K visa is special as it is a non-immigrant visa with INTENT to immigrate so you find it on both immigrant and non-immigrant sections on various websites and it can become confusing.

Yes, you need to complete the DS-160 and that is found in the non-immigrant section of the state dept website; however, specifically for Abu Dhabi you need to schedule your interview through the immigrant section of their embassy, i.e., through the website I provided. You will not be able to find the K visa under the https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ae/niv website and you'll hit a wall after starting your application and will have to go through https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ae/iv. ABD treats the K1 as an immigrant visa and actually instructs you to schedule the interview through their immigrant unit. Here's the link and look at Q11 https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ae/iv

Thanks OP! I will reply to the PM with more details as their website tends to be confusing sometimes on the specific steps we took.

  5. Actually I think the K is considered an immigrant visa by ABD so you would create your account here: https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ae/iv

We were also able to use that same website and book our interview and pay your fees. ABD lets you book your own interview. It's important to complete your DS-160 first as it will ask you for that confirmation number when booking your interview as well as your NVC case number.

  6. Hi everyone,good day.

My fiancee is from Louisiana and I am from the Philippines. We are planning to get married in Las Vegas. Will there be any problem or legal technicalities? Or is it better to get married in Louisiana?

And we only need the marriage certificate for the AOS? I am a little bit confused. Thanks a lot!

    :goofy:

Vegas sounds like fun!! I really don't think it matters as long as you attain a valid marriage license that's in the continental US. We are thinking of getting married in HI and I'm from NC. I've heard of many others that have had "destination weddings" and had no issues with their applications.

  7. Hi all,

My fiance and I received our NOA2 recently so I am reading up on what happens next. Can someone just confirm if the "packet 3" is emailed or snail-mailed to the beneficiary, and if its email, how do they get our email addresses? Are we to call the local embassy once the petition has been received and give them that information?

    Thanks...

I believe it varies from embassy to embassy. For our embassy, packet 3 is emailed to the petitioner. Here's your embassies specific link but I'm not sure if it has the info you're looking for. http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Trinidad%20and%20Tobago&cty=Port%20of%20Spain

I would try to ask in your country forum or message some VJers from your country?

  8. Hello, my boyfriend and I met online and have known each other for over 7 months. He lives in Morocco and is 25 yrs. old, and I live in America with 22 yrs. old. We plan to get married, and want to apply for the K1 visa, but we haven't met in person yet. We talk about him applying for a touristic visa, to visit me here in the usa; but from what we know it is difficult to be approved. Also, In Morocco, it is very difficult to find a stable job, which makes it difficult for him all around. So, we work online to provide for ourselves. We both live at home with our families at the moment. Please give your advice, we would appreciate it. Thanks so much.

I believe you have to have met in person in the last 2 years to be eligible to apply for the K1 visa. I would say just take your time and get to know each other also while saving to maybe meet somewhere in person. As far as the income is concerned, you have to show that you can support him while he comes to the US and may have to submit an affidavit of support (I believe the embassy in Casablanca needs this) if your income doesn't meet the guidelines, you can get a co-sponsor.

Also maybe reviewing this guide may help you to start your journey. http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

    Good luck!

  9. I have been telling him to fix it all.... So I will have to do another visa with the correct date of birth? because his passport is wrong, and ID his birth certificate is correct. I just want him to fix it all and once they get the forms in addis he can explain to them why the DOBB is different. I have been telling him to get ready for the interview but he's not listening saying he's waiting for me to send the paperwork to Addis.... He really doesn't listen at all to what I say at times. it's like talking to a wall, I am not sure if it's because he doesn't understand me but I say so much to him about this and doesn't listen to me.

Men can be so hard headed sometimes :ranting::ranting::ranting::ranting: i don't think you have to do another visa but bring the corrected documents to the interview and explain to CO. But I would call USCIS just to be sure (not sure if this would help but I would hate to wait until the interview and that's not the case then). I would wait on another application, I would see if they reject this one...just my personal opinion....maybe post about this issue on the forum and see if more seasoned vets can give more of an insight? I think the passport would be the easier fix in Addis rather than the birth certificate so that's good news (less bureaucratic and documents are digital :dancing: ). So let him take the birth certificate, application and renewal fee to immigration in Addis and it shouldn't take that long. I think I got my Ethio passport back in about a week (I'm naturalized now). I think he should know that it would be a terrible thing to get rejected at the interview after waiting ALL THIS TIME or be placed in AP because he didn't listen. There are people that are in AP for years. I think he should take it seriously and hopefully he'll get a move on once he finds out about the NOA2. My fiance was the same way until the NOA2 came and I guess then it became more real to him. If your guy needs some good talking to in Amharic....I got you I can type a nice stern message and you can read it to him

  10. We I was looking at reasons for why someone should get a REF and I think I might get that, because I didn't send in all copies of my passport I only sent in the pages I used and the photo page. I am praying I don't get one but this makes me get prepared for it just in case I do get one....... We also have to fix his birthday because his birth certificate says on date but his ID and passport says another date I used the date that's on the passport (it's wrong), how will we fix that? I sent him a message to fix it before August so if we don't get a REF we can have it fixed before he goes to his interview.

So if he's to fix the birth certificate date then he may have to go to the "kebele" that it was issued at. If it's the passport, then he takes his birth certificate and a new approval and the immigration in Addis can take care of it. Yes, I agree with you. I would get it fixed before the interview as you don't want his documents not coinciding. That's the best approach I think is to think of those items that may RFE you and get ahead of it by preparing them so you can send it off as soon as the RFE notice letter comes in. Also, gather the documents he will need for the interview. I think that also helps with the waiting as you feel like you're being productive and actually doing something to affect the process :clock:

  11. I just had someone tell me that we will not get approved because we are in Africa..... They have no idea of what they're talking about.... but I know little Amharic(working on learning it), I am in the process of getting baptized into the religion. I am praying that we don't get a RFE because I made sure everything was done correctly. I also had my Ethiopian sister go over it all and she said it was good (she did it all for her husband). So I am pretty sure we will not have an issue with that. I am so glad to have someone that's Ethiopian (I am 100% American) that have the same timeframe as I do (well I am a month off from yours, so close)... I am telling myself to relax it's been 45 days and counting :crying::clock: lol, God bless you and your future husband (L):goofy:

Don't worry. I know PLENTY of people that have been approved with K1 and CR-1 as well from Ethio. And we have folks from Morocco and Ghana in our March forum that have gotten approvals so idk where this African doesn't get approvals myth comes from.... As long as you submitted the necessary documents, followed instructions and you have enough evidence to support your relationship, you will be fine. I will keep you posted on how our process goes and ask if you need pointers :) It's the hardest when it's midway through and gets easier once you have the NOA2 because you feel like you have more control. I will continue to pray for no RFE and don't get discouraged if it does come because sometimes it's for simple things and the approval quickly follows after. We have a lot of RFEs in March but it lets you know that at least someone is working on your file and it isn't sitting on a shelf somewhere collecting dust. Stay strong and use this time to learn more about each other and prepare for the interview. Also, stay connected to your Ethiopian community and church so it grounds the both of you when he's here....if you need someone to bounce Amharic on, I'm here :dancing: Wishing you and your fiance all the best :goofy:

  12. I am trying to figure out if my fiancé will be here by November 5th of this year. Our paperwork has been pending for 44 days since they got our paperwork on 5.6.2016. We are praying that we get the second NOA by the end of July without any issues. If the visa is approved could we possibly get him her before our deadline?

Selam, dehna nesh? :goofy: It's exciting to see another Ethio poster :) My fiance and I are currently on NOA2. From NOA1 to NOA2, it took about 90 days without RFE. Some March filers are also around 90-100 days. Now we are still waiting for case number at NVC and it's been 17 days. The estimate for March folks is 3 weeks and some change until you get a case number. The VJ wait for Ethio embassy says 1-3 months (can't give you personal info on that as we are processing out of Abu Dhabi). So, total approximately around 6-8 months. When I spoke to an attorney before I started the process, she told me the K1 currently take around 9-10 months. I would keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best in November, but like previous posters said don't make any definite plans that would be hard to adjust. I pray you have no RFE and your journey will be smooth and speedy. I know the waiting is sooo hard! Tigist.....tigist....tigist....as I tell myself :)

  13. Hi,

So the requirements of the documents needed vary from embassy to embassy so I would definitely try to post in your country's forum and see if they can give you specifics. Or you can also try to contact specific members, most folks I've interacted with are very helpful when you message them.

I can speak for our embassy and maybe it can give you a general idea:

The NVC number is used for book the interview and they also need it when you call to book the medical appointment.

Yes, go ahead and fill out the DS-160, you will need that to book your appointment. I would personally complete it now as you have your case number, which would indicate that your case will hopefully be at your consulate soon.

Pertaining to prepare for the interview, as the USC you need to complete the affadavit of support (form i134) and send it to your fiance along with the supporting documents (letter from employer, letter from bank about your accounts, irs transcripts of your 1040, w2, pay stubs, etc.). I would also submit an updated letter of intent to marry with a more current date. Also, advise your fiance to prepare more evidence to show your relationship is continuing after you've filed so he can take it to the interview.

    Hope this helps some :)

  14. I agree with Georgia. The best place to ask would be in your forum. That said, I'm not a patient person to wait for the packet, so I went ahead and contacted some VJ members (it's such an awesome community and many don't mind helping out) on what our embassy specifically required and started working on it.

My fiance and I went ahead and filled out the DS-160 and saved it so we're ready to submit it as soon as we get a case number. Since you have notification that says that it's on its way to Guangzhou and probably have your case number, I would go ahead and submit it as it will probably be there in a couple of days and you can easily track the progress of when it's "ready" with your NVC case number.

The types of documents required and stated on the i-134 statement from an officer of the bank outlining your accounts and statement from your employer. Here's the link to the instructions https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-134instr.pdf

Now some embassies may require more or less (tax forms, pay stubs, W2, etc.), so definitely check in with your forum.
