  1. We have finally received our interview date, but we live in the south of the country. Does anyone have experience with either the Dr. from São Paulo or Rio? We called the office in São Paulo and they said it could be done in one day and then the packet would be available 10 days later. The office in Rio said we should expect at least 3 days to get the tests and receive the packet.

Any advise or others experiences would be great.

  2. After 3 emails and a month later the consulate in Rio finally responded to our question. She said in Brazil if it has been longer than 5 years then it is not necessary. But I believe that if you lived in another country for more than 12 months since the age of 16 then it is necessary to get a police certificate.

  3. We are living in Brazil and are trying to obtain a police certificate from Argentina but it seems really confusing. Does the U.S. Only accept certified police check from Argentina? How do we get one without having to go to Buenos Aires? Does anyone have experience with this?

  4. We are going through the IR-1 visa through the consulate in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After reviewing the embassy website we found some, what seems to be, conflicting information regarding police certificates. On the the website it gives tabs of what documents are needed for the interview and there are two for police certificates. One tab says Police Certificates which states that you need one for any place you lived since the age of 16. The other tab says Police Certificates for Brazil which says you only need certificates from places you lived longer than 6 months for the last 5 years.

Has anyone went through processing in Rio that has lived in other countries or states? If so what type of police certificates did you submit?

  5. This whole NVC processing is so tricky. Can anyone clarify from experience about email processing. I understand that the NVC website says to send documents in ONE package and to keep attachments below 5mb. Dores that mean 5mb for entire email or for each file? Thank you so much. It's so confusing

  6. Our case was originally denied and so while awaiting a decision in Federal court I (American) went to Brazil with my wife (Brazilian). I obtained a CIE card through our son and have only been in Brazil for 5 months when we won our case and the USCIS re-reviewed and approved our I-130. So we are processing through NVC and the interview will be in Rio de Janeiro.

We are preparing to send all our documents in, but we are having a concern about domicile.

    I still have strong ties to the U.S. and am going to send a written explanation about why I am in Brazil along with evidence that I am domicile and have plans to return with my wife;

Proof of property; paid property tax, homeowners insurance, and deed

Tax returns from the last three years

    Bank account

    Credit card accounts

    Valid drivers license

    Quote from international moving company

    Job offer

We are just worried that if this would be enough and if me having a CIE card will cause any conflict?

I have no monetary attachment in Brazil (job, bank account, property) nothing in my name.

We are worried and wanted to reach out to this community for help, has anyone been in similar situations.

    Thank You All
