Hi friends,
I finally got my green card! It arrived through usps yesterday, and I am so beyond emotional and excited as this has been a very stressful journey.
Visajourney helped me a LOT, and I just wanted to pay it forward by listing the entire process.
A little background on me -- I came into the country on a visitor's visa, and then eventually changed my status to F1
Being an F1 student was incredibly hard, not only because of tuition, but because the limitations. Getting my license, for example, was like getting stars from the sky.
Eventually I was able to get my social security card through the school, as I had to do a summer internship.
4 years ago, I met my now wonderful husband, who didn't really know about my situation. He did know I was an F1 student, but that was the extent, because truthfully, american citizens who were born here don't really understand all this immigration stuff. Fast forward 3.5 years later, I transferred to a 4 year college, and tuition was even more expensive. Somehow we got into talking about loans and how I needed a co-signer, and how hard life is, etc. He had also mentioned that his mother pretty much said 'if you love her, marry her'. He proposed with my dream ring, got married February 12th, and began the AOS process.
I mailed everything (I-130, I-485, I-765) on February 29th, and arrived at the Chicago Lockbox on March 1st.
April 8th - Went to get my biometrics
May 11th - EAD card in production
June 1st - Greencard interview scheduled for June 30th
June 9th - Got EAD in the mail (finally)
June 30th - Went in for greencard interview. Interview lasted less than 1 hour
Online USCIS status changed to Card in production
July 1st - USCIS status changed to I-485 approved
USCIS status changed to I-130 approved
July 7th - USCIS status changed to USPS picked up card
July 8th - GREENCARD IN HAND!
I'm trying to attach my I-485 and I-130 checklist, but it says i'm not "permitted to upload this kind of file" -- if anyone needs it, I can email them to you.
I also have pictures of my packages before I sent them - I can email them to you as well!
If anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to ask! I might not have all your answers, but it may help others going through the same process.

hello, in which city do you life . we can help each other. we are on the same situation. I'm living in Melbourne Florida

I'm unsure why your living arrangements are part of the subject.
You brother can be the joint sponsor, if he's single with no kids, the household size would be 2, him and the immigrant.
Your friend can do it to. To be honest though, I wouldn't sign an I-864 for a friend or co-worker. It would a stretch to sign it for a family member too.
hello i have a question.I have just being working for two years so i just have the Federal income tax
for 2 years and there are asking for the past three years and for the joint sponsormust he/she Federal income tax be above 125% as require?hi
he can write a letter stating why he wasn't required to filed taxes for the third year, and there is no obligation to have all the years above the poverty guidelines
only recent tax and current year
thanks

That part of the form is not 'off'. It clearly tells you not to count anyone twice, and clearly states anyone counted below #1 are people that are NOT being sponsored in the affidavit. The intending immigrant is being counted in #1, and is never counted again anywhere below that.
The form can be used by someone that is not sponsoring their own spouse, so that is why #3 is there. It applies to them. They would have a spouse that is not being sponsored in the affidavit. Many times this is true for a joint sponsor.

hi
of course, any USC or LPR that makes over the poverty guidelines can be a joint sponsor

Your living situation has nothing to do with immigration.
Your brother is the ideal Joint Sponsor. He only needs to make $20,000/year if he has no outstanding I-864 obligation.
Your friend/co-worker can be a Joint Sponsor. Personally, I would never sign an I-864 for a friend and be financially responsible for his relative. The I-864 is not just a piece of paper, it can be a financial burden for the Joint Sponsor.
ok thank you . The 125% is it before or after tax?
-
It depends on how big their household is. If your brother is married and has 3 kids then his household size would be 5 before adding the immigrant; 6 in total.
How big of a household does your joint sponsor have? Are thry living in the USA?
my brother(US citizen) is single with no kids and he is living in the USA but in a different state. Can my friend/coworker do it? Also I'm living in a 2bed apt occupying the master bed room. will it be a problem when filling all the paper work? or most i live in a 1 bed apartment with my spouse

hello,
I just got married a couple of weeks and i was reading on how to do with all the paper work. My question is about Affidavit of Support. I'm making 18k a year. Can my friend or brother be my cosigner for the affidavit of support though we don't live together and most he/she be a US citizen?
Need help with the form I-864
