  1. Yes, I did.

But it is funny, the marriage license (which becomes the certificate when signed off at the ceremony) doesn't provide any provisions for the name change.

Yes my wife assumed my last name and we filed everything in her new name (and stating her "other" name/maiden name). It will become really interesting as her home country Ecuador requires a certified and apostiled marriage certificate showing her new name, which of course, in Florida and many other states is not supplied. But we will deal with this later as her Ecuadorian passport is still valid for almost 2 years. Perhaps taking to the Embassy her in the US might be helpful as they should know how things work in the US, despite what other countries require or expect.

    Thanks for all your input.

  2. I am sitting over the paperwork to send out my new wife's AOS on Tuesday. She came in on a K1 on Aug.21st and we got married on Sept.2nd.

We are filing all three above mentioned applications in one package. Does someone know if I have to do all the supporting evidence for each package separately (even if they are identical) or is is sufficient if one copy is within the complete package? Same question for the pictures. We are submitting 2 pictures for the I-485, the I-131 asks as well for 2 pictures. Will they use the same and do we submit 2 sets of 2 pictures??????

They guideline for AOS here on Visa Journey recommend to put 2 pictures in a plastic bag and attaches it to the package....... Would I then apply two bags with 2 photos?

Thanks for any recommendation based on facts / experience.

  3. Not only would the AOS filing make it impossible to leave the confines of the USA. The K1 is a one-time entry visa. Any other visas B1/B2 will be cancelled when the K1 is entered onto the passport. Leaving the country would not be the problem but re-entering impossible due lack of visa. The K1 be applied for again, starting with i129F.

Alaska honeymoon:Sounds like a good plan as long as you fly from the US direct without stop in Canada, as mentioned before.

It would be interesting what would happen if the airline would make an unscheduled stop on foreign ground.....

I might hijack the idea of Alaska.... good luck!

  4. While we are waiting for the day of the Interview for my fiance's K1 visa (August 3rd, Guayaquil, Ecuador), I was trying to check the electronic I94 information retrival sytem.

My fiance visited the USA 5 times (B2 visa) in the last 12 month and twice the CBP had seemingly trouble to find the correct information when she arrived. Once she was told somehow according to their records she never left after her last visit. Fortunately that was cleared up using the stamps in her passport. They blamed a faulty airline manifest.

I know we need the I94 for AOS and SS card. I tried to use the elctronic system to find any record of past travels but the system couldn't find her.

I tried any spelling variations of her names (latin america: 2 last names & 2 first names. Even switched first and lastnames. I tried to enter the dates in varies forms. Nothing helped. She seems not to be in the system.

In order to be preemptiv I contacted the CBP office in Miami (POE) via email and explained to them that I was looking into the system and were not finding any records regarding her last travels. I explained she will need the I94 when she arrives next time (probably August) on her K1 and perhaps it would be good for all to find out before hand where the problem could be (electr. reading the passport at POE perhaps).

I got a response, explaining to me, the system is only for non-immigrant visitors and if I need a hardcopy I have to request on with Homeland Security based on the freedom of information act.

In a second email I tried again, explaining why I am contacting them and got an even shorter answer :if you like a hardcopy request it with HLS ....

My third email did ot get any reply....

I am afraid we will run into a problem comming August and it should be so easy to prevent the problems that might result in not getting an SS card, unable to file AOS etc.

Anyone else having similar problems / experience? Is there another office where I can report that their system might not work in our case?

Not being able to find her in the retrival sytem probably means SS might not find her either.

Thinking perhaps the next time it will work if there is no record of the former 5 visits is not realy my nature.

    I am concerned.

  5. Hello Tbone,TX.

Of course nothing is guaranteed but we are still pretty upbeat about it. We don't think there are any red flag as we have crossed our T's and dotted our I's.

The finances are sound and we have extensive traveled together in the US and in Europe during the 4 years of our courtship supporting the evidence of our bone-fida relationship. I believe the consulate will be fair in looking at our case as they have no reason not to.

Every case is different and often things are border line which creates a greater risk for denial. We will see what happens but continue in the mean time to prepare for our new life together in the US.

  6. fazram, Kris&me thank you so much for your quick reply.

We are actually hopeful to get our interview fairly quickly as soon as the file is received by the consulate, which should be very soon.. Ecuador has one of the fastest statistical time between receiving and interview compared to most others (about 3 weeks+).

I will call the NVC center to find out about there status. We see a bunch of files with the same NOR2 date (06/06/16) marked as received, we were just not sure whether we would get an email when they receive it (which is obviously not the case)

  7. I tried to find out searching the forums but couldn't find clear answers. Here are our questions:

Will NVC inform us by email about receiving the file and when processing is finished or is it only by mail?

Will the consulate send the packages (3;4 ???) By mail or email? Our postal service in Ecuador is very unreliable and slow if it works. We are prepping our papers for the interview and don't want to loose time waiting for things to arrive (or not) by mail.

We got notification from USCIS 4 weeks ago and our file should be in processing with NVC by now.

Our consulate is Guayaquil, Ecuador. I, the petitioner, am in Ecuador st the moment to assist my fiance with the prep for the last step. Our intention is to fly to the US together as soon she has her K1.

Thanks for any help/clarification of the process.
