  1. Hello! I tried to find this question in previous threads but couldn't find my situation. I have a conditional 2 year green card, been married for 2.5 years with an American citizen. I want to visit my family for 1 week this spring in Latvia. My question is: Should I write my name in Latvian version (one letter added to last name) on my plane tickets to Latvia and back or in English? In the main Latvian passport section with my picture and everything it is translated in Latvian version (one letter added) because Latvia made me to do it, but on the other page with small letters it said: "Original form in English"....and there is my name in English just like in Green card. How should I write my name when traveling on plane tickets, especially when coming back to USA? Should I use the original form English version from the other page on Passport and that on Green card or the Latvian version that's on the main page with one letter added to my last name? I will travel alone without my sweet American husband so don't want any problems. Thanks!

  2. Hi! How is it going with your application process? I am a Latvian who married US Citizen and we did K1 visa, now waiting for Adjustment of status to become permanent resident with green card. I think using joint sponsor would be the easiest if it is allowed in your case which I think it should be. I hope you have relatives in USA or good friends who could be joint sponsor. You can read about joint sponsor in I-130 documents, instructions.

  3. Hi! I called USCIS 2 times about my status update because it hasn't been updated since the beginning of August 2017.It says that we're in process of scheduling your interview and that's it. So I called USCIS and a very kind representative told me that because it has been more than 6 months after that announcement so they're going to send me something in mail in 15 to 30 days and have me a long number with 16 digits that starts with T1B1 and ends with MSC...I didn't receive anything in mail unfortunately. So I called again after 1 month and the lady told that I am in normal processing time which is 13-19 months and I just have to wait and she doesn't know anything about that number and doesn't see any records that I called and the other person promised me to send a letter...Has anyone experienced something similar? Does that number mean anything? It is just weird that they promised to send something and never did...I am ok that I have to wait, but I am curious about that number he gave before. Thank you!

  4. Hi! I wanted to ask-do I need to send a Photocopy of Notice of action of 485 (I-797C) which says that petition has been received or some other form? And does I 765 Approval Notice need to be original or Photocopy? I also forgot how many Receipts I had to have with I-765- One where it's said that they received my I-765 letter and 2nd is the Approval Notice? Or was there another one? Thank you! 🙏

  5. Hi! I wanted to ask-do I need only the approval notice of 485 (I-797) or also the receipts received before approval notice? And does I 765 Approval Notice need to be original or Photocopy? I also forgot how many Receipts I had to have with I-765- One where it's said that they received my I-765 letter and 2nd is the Approval Notice? Or was there another one (sorry, can't remember and hard to find online :( ) Thank you! 🙏

which country are you from? as far as i know, when you renew or apply for a new passport your embassy should not hold / keep your old passport during that time. you present it at the time of application and you present it when you collect your new passport (during this time they "cancel" or invalidate the old passport as well).

and i agree with Scandi - best to hold on to your old passport, at least until your green card is in your hands.

I am from Latvia, I think I would have to mail my old passport to the embassy. I think I will wait till I get the green card and then change the passport to be sure all is good. Thank you all!

  7. Hi! I wanted to ask: if me and my husband would be called for a Green card interview, would I have to bring my old passport with maiden name in it and K1 visa or they will not ask for it anymore as a photo ID? Do I need a new passport from my country I was born in? I have EAD with my photo and may have driver's license very soon and I have Social Security card. I would like to send my old passport away to get the new passport but I am afraid that they would ask to see that K1 visa again in Green card interview...

  8. I am just curious what other immigrants are doing in America, if you started to study here, what did you study? I am a woman looking for a career now. I know there are hundreds of options, but I am just trying to get more ideas :) I would not want to study finances or something with math, thinking about medical field but worried that it might be too hard to memorize all that and study in English...Would be great to have just 1 year education, something fast, just thinking what would be profitable :) Any ideas?

  9. Hi! I wanted to ask-I have my driver's license that is not expired yet just has my maiden name before I got married in June this year, now I have a new last name. Can I still use it till would get American driver's license? If not-can I get driver's license with work persmission, EAD card that I will get soon or I have to wait for a green card? :( Also, can I start to study with that EAD card and social security number that I have or have to wait for green card? Could I receive discounted study tuition based on my husband's lower income, as he is also studying or only when receive a green card? How soon do you think green card would come after getting EAD and advance parole?

Who is he sending this tax info to - USCIS or the IRS? Did you get an RFE for the 3rd quarter estimated taxes?

My instinct is telling me you are talking about sending the form/payment to the IRS and are concerned if it will be used by USCIS. The answer is probably not. USCIS only has the financial info you send them. They have no way of knowing what your estimated taxes are unless you tell them. So send in whats correct for 3rd quarter to the IRS and try not to worry about USCIS. If USCIS does ask for that specific form it shouldnt be used against your showing less income that quarter. They will look at the whole years projections plus proof of income in previous years to determine if it is likely or not likely you will be a public charge.

Thank you very much! This calmed me down :)

  11. Hello! My husband is self-employed and we sent in documents for AOS on 24th June 2017. We sent predicted tax payment statements for 2017 2 quarters of this year. Now my husband needs to send predicted tax for 3rd quarter. I wanted to ask: Does this 3rd quarter predicted tax payment need to be 125% or it can be less? Would they look only at this quarter if we would be called for an interview soon? Like they would take this last predicted tax payment and make it times 4 so they see how much we will make a year? Last 2 previous payments made it that his income will be above 125% but now we would like to send less due to Hurricane Irma expenses (we are from Florida) and on 4rd quarter we could send more that all 4 quarters together would be 125%. Sorry that my language wasn't perfect, was writing fast because we need to send tax now :) Thank you!

When you say you got a notice that your interview will be soon, are you referring to the update is case status that says your interview is ready to be scheduled? Or have you actually received an interview date? Only asking because if it's the first one, and you just filed AOS in the last couple of months, you likely have a while before you actually are summoned for an interview, if at all. That case status update doesn't necessarily mean you'll have an interview, and you might well stay stuck on that status for months and one day find that it's suddenly changed to tell you your green card is in production without ever having an interview.

if your interview is coming up immediately, don't worry too too much about the evidence as they are aware that at that point you're still just starting your life together. The evidence of ongoing relationship and co-mingling of finances will become much more important in 2 years when you file for ROC. Have him add you onto his bank account as that is pretty easy to do, and bring the statements showing both of your names. Does he have a credit card? Even if you can't be added as a joint account holder yet you may be able to be added as an authorized user on the same card. Do you have a driver's license/state ID yet? Do both of your IDs show the same address? If so, you can include a copy of those.

Every case is different, but we did have an interview for AOS and the thing our immigration officer was most interested in was pictures (so it was fortunate that we brought two full albums of them!). She had us go through the albums and each pick our favourite 5 photos. Once we did, she gave us each a pen and told us to label the backs of each photo with the location and date and the names of the people in the photo with us. I had happened to pick all photos with other people in them, including a giant family photo from our wedding, so by the time I finished writing every name my hand was cramped and the back of the photo was full!!  :jest:

Thank you very much for the info! I opened myUSCIS and my case status, entered the receipt number and it tells:

Case Is Ready To Be Scheduled For An Interview

As of August 14, 2017, we are ready to schedule your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number MSC1791525640, for an interview. We will schedule your interview and send you a notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

Do you think it could be only after few months or don't have an interview at all? I hope, when they would send me a letter soon or in few months, it doesn't get lost somewhere and I really receive it, so I would not miss my interview...

  13. Hello! We will have an interview for AOS soon, I got a notice that it will be soon, probably in few weeks or a month. We have been married only for 2 months, I don't have much proof of our life together...Ofcourse, I have house keys, gym membership together, some letters coming for me in the mail to our house, photos from the wedding, but nothing much more...He could add me on his bank account probably but the bills come in his mother's name (they bought the house together where we all live). What could I bring as a proof of our life together? What else is important for that interview, what I cannot forget or what should I know before? Thanks!

  14. Hi! I wanted to ask: We sent in documents for AOS and now I will have to go for biometrics appointment on 1st August. I don't have a valid ID with a photo now because my passport is not valid anymore because of my last name change and America refused to give me a driver's license now, I had to get it before my I-94 expired. I also cannot get so fast my new Latvian passport. Will it be ok to go for biometrics with the passport with my maiden name+marriage certificate, Social security card with the new married name and other documents but not a photo ID with the new married name? Maybe I can get some other State issued photo ID? Thanks!

  15. Hi! Me and my husband are preparing the proof for meeting the financial requirements for the form I-864 and this is what we got. Can you tell me if it looks good and enough? He is self-employed.

    1. 2014, 2015, 2016 Tax Return transcripts downloaded online from IRS.
    2. 1040 for 2014, 2015, 2016 with all the Schedules (because I was reading here that need to show all Schedules like C, D, SE...)
    3. Estimated tax paid for 2017...2 payments, the estimated annual income also meets required income.
    4. A letter of explanation / narrating the current income+Bank statements showing deposits

His Total income has decreased in those 3 years but it still meets the income requirements...In 2016 it was about the minimum amount required, a little over. I wonder if they will like that and maybe we should add our assets also because they are strict on self-employed people? Or only to send assets if they send RFE? He
also just received big scholarships for his university, will have good education in 1,5 years, maybe should add info about that? Thanks!
