My wife has a concern and asked for some advice that I was not able to provide to her satisfaction. Looking for opinions.
She took a job with a, well, seems to be a shady company. They claimed the scanner wasn't working, so they took, what my wife describes as a "very detailed picture" of her green card. Turns out, they didn't require an I-9 and they paid in cash. I wasn't informed until after. My wife has some concerns that her green card information could be sold. Luckily, and another red flag if she told me earlier, they didn't get her SSN. So I think from a pure identity theft, open bank accounts in a persons name sort of way, she is safe, but I could see how theft of her A-number could causes issues in the immigration process and when filing taxes. We are waiting to file for adjustment of status.
Thoughts? I'm not really sure there is anything that "can" be done until/if something bad actually happens. Is there some way to report if you think your a-number is at risk?
