  1. cubanlovestory, hope all goes well for you and your fiance.

cshell... glad to hear your good news. Hopefully your fiance will get the visa. I also have some news... last wee I wrote a long e-mail to the embassy. They responded the next business day saying that the review process was complete and that they would be sending a letter to my fiancee (keep in mind that they returned her passport to her on the day of the interview). Just two days ago, the letter came at it didn't say for sure whether the visa was approved, but it said that she should go to the embassy with her passport any Wednesday (obviously she'll be going this coming Wednesday). Not sure if they will be interviewing her again, but I hope not... especially since they interviewed both of us last time for about 2 1/2 hours!

We could all use some good news... keeping my fingers crossed.

  2. The I-134 does not require a certified tax return (does not require ANY tax returns unless you are self-employed). However, some embassies DO ask for tax returns in their checklist sent to the beneficiary before the interview.

Certified copies come from the IRS via mail and can take a while. Tax transcripts also come from the IRS via mail or fax. Mailed transcripts take about a week or two. Faxed ones take about a day (that's what I did in my case and the embassy did not have a problem with it... I had IRS fax me 3 years just to be safe and I also took a TurboTax print-out along with my W2).

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

    - edit: I did have to stay on hold for a while w/ the IRS and did get transferred quite a bit until I found someone competent and helpful (doesn't surprise me, though).

  3. cshell, yes, I am Guyanese, but I came over to the US when I was young and I've spent most of my life here. The embassy did take my fiance's passport... as far as the other documents go, they didn't seem to have a problem with them.. or at least nothing that I know of. They did also tell us one or two weeks so, like you, I'm actually expecting the process to most likely take months. I just hope they don't give us any problems and we get a (hopefully) speedy approval.

That's the good... now the bad: they didn't like that most of my fiance's family lives in the US. My fiance and I will live in NJ and her family lives in FL. My fiance has also been denied multiple visitor's visas to the US in the past. On top of that, she has also been approved multiple visitor's visas in the past and has been in the US three times (she never over-stayed her visits). The embassy did NOT like that her family is here and that she had previous rejections... that definitely set off a red flag for them even though our relationship is legitimate. I just hope they can see past the bad circumstances that surround the case and see that this is real.

So far I have not heard anything else about their investigations in my case.. I'll let you know if I do.

Again, all the best to you... I hope both our cases get quick approvals.

  4. cshell, I'm in the same boat as you.

My fiance's interview was on 9/25. As in your case, my fiance is also in Guyana and I went through the Vermont Service Center.

I did attend the interview with my fiance and we were each interviewed separately by two different people (so it was total of four distinct interview sessions that lasted over 2.5 hours in total). At the end of all that, they told us that our case was going to be put into a process for additional review. They wouldn't give too much other information even when I questioned them... the interviewer did, however, say that it was neither a rejection nor approval. We also did NOT get any additional forms/letters from them.

They told us that they try to process these things quickly but they didn't know exactly how long it would take. They said hopefully within a week or so they would let us know. I doubted that it would take a week and I was right... it has been almost two weeks. Next week, I'm planning to write to the Embassy in Georgetown to request a status. If they don't provide enough info or if they continually give me the run-around, I'm considering writing to my Congressman (which may not be a bad thing given that elections are in November and congressmen will be itching for votes). But, I also don't want to tick off the embassy and force them into a rejection decision... so it's a fine line to walk. :(

It does appear that the embassy is conducting some type of investigation because I heard that they called my fiance's job and spoke to her manager... not sure what else they have done in the past week.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm stuck in the same hole as you. If you find out any additional info about this process, feel free to share it here and I will do the same. Good luck to you and your fiance.

  5. The subject might have a joke in it somewhere... but I just have a quick question:

Before I ask, let me say that this site and the people here have been a big help.... THANKS. My question... I notice lots people stating when their cases were touched. How/where do you find that out? So far I have received my NA01, the IMBRA RFE, and replied to the RFE. The only thing I see on the USCIS site is that they received my reply.... nothing about touches. (and I am signed up for e-mail notification from USCIS)

    Thanks in advance.
