  1. My niece who lives in Canada is half Chinese and her parents have the same concern about her remembering her Chinese heritage. She takes Chinese lessons and learns about the culture, but is an integrated Canadian through and through.

I think under the circumstances, your best hope lies in helping your son learn that he is MORE than an American - he is a true NORTH AMERICAN - a child who is from both the US and from Canada - and perhaps allow him to develop a greater sense of cultural consciousness. That will be your job, to find ways to integrate 'Canadianism' into him as he becomes Americanized. I think it is a good thing that we are all moving to a greater global awareness and your son has an opportunity to present the best of this endeavour. Good luck.

Beer, KD and HP sauce is all I need from home.

  2. hmm tour in Croatin in 93 wasnt a cushy tour. I wasnt there for this :

The Canadian contingent was able to protect the Serb enclave in the Krajina region of eastern Croatia until 1995 when a major Croatian offensive succeeded in expelling the entire Serb population. In 1993, the Canadian contingent, 2 PPCLI battle group, had been able to stop an earlier offensive. The men of 2 PPCLI did so despite the battalion having a great deal going against it. Of its 875 soldiers, only 375 came from the unit: the remainder were augmentees, 385 militia soldiers and 165 from other regular force units. Only a long period of intense combat training that allowed the building of cohesive teams at section, platoon, and company level allowed 2 PPCLI to avoid disaster. (4) Croatian forces attacked the Canadian soldiers over a period of four days. The Canadians returned fire, suffering several wounded but no loss of life themselves. Croatian officials publicly admitted to losing some 27 killed and wounded to UN fire in this action, but their actual losses were probably much higher. (5) Eventually, 2 PPCLI launched a full-scale assault, the first by the Canadian army since Korea, to reoccupy the ceasefire zone. Although its objectives were achieved without firing a shot, a tense confrontation took place between Croatian tanks and Canadian TOW M113 APCs. This confrontation ended only when the commanding officer of the Patricia's called forward 20 international journalists accompanying the troops to witness what was going on. The Croatians left the Krajina region but not before inflicting scenes of death, rape, pillage, and wanton destruction on the areas they briefly occupied. The Canadian "peacekeepers" who witnessed the carnage as they moved in were left with indelible scars. The experience of Yugoslavia clearly provides the lesson that peacekeeping is best carried out by combat trained, well-equipped troops. "

But was no cake walk tour. Maybe not an aphganistan like tour. I will disregsard ur comment about killing people, as I think thats a rather uncalled for comment. I'm a slacker now, just goto school and referee hockey

As brought to my attention by my wife the "seeing new places meeting new people and killing them."

may have been a bit offensive and unappropriate. If I have offended anyone I apologize, it wasn't my intent. I will leave the humour to the wife.

  3. Ya air force life was hard~~ Go into work at 0820, brief at 0830, not flying today, 0900 at gym!! 1000 home, lol I did time in Croatia in 93, got my fill of Army time, lol Never had long hair, Air Force i would say has the highest quality of life, and when the CO said he had an open door policy, he meant it, same with the chief. I had a blast, miss it a lot.

Served on air bases wasn't too bad but i honestly loved being on tour seeing new places meeting new people and killing them. But the tours of today are much different people are now coming home in body bags unlike Bosnia and similar cushy tours.

Should be different adjusting to life as a civilian kinda like you from drip pans to bed pans. I can't work until i get ym green card anyways so i'll be a slacker for a bit.

  4. lol!! Well I served in all 3 branches Army (infantry), Navy (NCI op) and Air Force (AES op) Call me silly, but do I want to be in a fox hole, making about $4 a day in field pay, or do I want to be in Italy, hotel paid for, $100 a per diem per day(tax free), plus aircrew pay, only flying every second day, hmmmmm, lol I say Work away Army, I'm was happy to fill #'s, most of those #'s went into my bank acct, lol Mind you I did enjoy my grunt time. Highly respect the boys over in aphagnistan

ya, my Flames were a diisapointment, if it wasn't for Kipper, would have been a lot worse

Well Italy is nice...as is the per diem but i'll take the sand for 6 months making 40 k plus, FSP and the tax break ya know. Ya never know dumping a mag into an afghani convoy is always nice, helps relieve a bit of stress of avoiding IEDS and suicide bombers. I don't think I could do the navy thing I only can stay in the bath 5 mins max so being at sea would drive me batty, the airforce is max relax but I cant handle long hair, lol.

  5. Not being an expert on immigration by any stretch of the immagination I am an expert concerning hockey ( I have the scars to proove it ). The Flames suck thats why they are golfing with the Leafs and with God's blessing the Wings will join them.

My team played so poorly this year I was forced to watch mixed blind curling on TSN.

Lord Stanley will reside in Anaheim this year. B)

P.S. Hey Flames9, the Flames are just like the airforce, just there to fill numbers we all know the ARMY does all the work.

  6. There is one big difference.

I hold no love for the Israeli's, but if they are trying to kill Civillians then they are doing a very very bad job of it.

I do know that Hezbolah are using unguided rockets against cities that could hit pretty much anything, used as a terror weapon in this instance. Absolutely no attempt to target enemy military.

Last casualty I saw was an Arab girl living in Israel.

What is going on in Lebanon since long time is orchestrated by Iran’s inferiority complex and their henchman Hezbollah. The last think they care about are the Lebanese people

Having been someone who served and lived in Israel, Syria and Afghanistan I think that niether side will ever learn from the deaths of others. It is what they do ,it is how they have been raised. If they want to kill each other at this point fine, just make sure to keep their wars over there. thanks. I would like to see all conflict in that region end for good.
