That won't work for AOS, so you need to go to the local courthouse and get a certified copy of your marriage certificate. You do not apply for AOS in maiden name, you apply in married name, but only after you receive a copy of your official marriage certificate back from the court.
Apply for SSN in maiden name. Get it changed to married name once you have the EAD or green card in married name.
AOS mini guide >
Print out your I-94 info > https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94
Follow this guide for getting the SSN > http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn
Follow this guide for AOS > http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos
The fees are listed here > http://www.uscis.gov/i-485
The fees for the I-765(EAD-work authorization) and I-131(AP-advance parole for travel) are waived when filed with a pending I-485, so include both of those too. It takes about 60-90 days to receive the EAD/AP combo card, which will allow you to work(along with an SSN) and re-enter the US when traveling abroad while waiting for the green card approval.
You need all the supporting documents for each form as well, so read the instructions for each one. You can also search here on VJ for what to include with each form if you get stumped. There are also example forms here on VJ you can look at when filling out the forms. They can be helpful.
And here are the details you need about whether or not you need to see a civil surgeon > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/551080-immunizations-ds-3025-or-i-693/
Thanks!!!

If you are aware of those links/info...then what are your specific questions about it. As far as I know It's all in there unless I missed smth.
As far as the social security number you might be able to apply in your married name and you might not. Vjer's have very differing experiences on that since the offices will tell you different things. You'll just have to go in to your office and ask. The name they search in SAVE to verify your eligibilty for the SSC has to match the latest immigration document, in this case the i-94 which is then in the maiden name. In most cases verification is immidiate and in some cases it can take weeks (took 8 weeks for mine).
Sometimes ppl have been told after they are married that they have to wait for ead... which isn't the case...but when told this it might be hard to argue...
Anyhow.. start with a trip to the local SSO.. see if you can apply without issues asap...
The aos/ead/ap don't require a ssn.
Edit: oh right you didn't have the certificate? Yea then maiden name for application...and change it after ead..
Hi..."The aos/ead/ap don't require a ssn....but the aos/ead/ap require my married name, correct? So I guess those have to wait until I get that marriage cert.

I'm glad my soon to be wife and I aren't in any hurry to get her EAD/SSN and finalize the whole AOS status the minute we get married (of course we will file soon after marriage though), seems many people are stressed out about getting to work right away. I understand everyone has a different scenario but honestly it takes time and we all know time is in the hands of the immigrations offices and workers hands unfortunately. Getting the right info on what to fill out and filling it out properly can be found easily enough on here if you do enough reading and searching. Sorry I can't help much and I will be looking into the same process soon, will even use this thread to help, haha. Hope your able to get your AOS worked out and EAD to get your life back to normal, good luck!
You need to apply for the SSN as soon as you can though. Your I-94 which you need to apply for the SSN has an expiry date and to reapply for an I-94 is a PAIN! I sugguest get the SSN before your 14 day prior to expiring(i-94) window comes up.

Karlzy-- I have my "customer copy" that we received when getting our initial marriage license. It has my name change info on there...will that work??

Thank you so much!!! But heres my next question...our marriage cert stuff was mailed back to original office and now we have to wait probably weeks and weeks to get that back. I have a interim certificate from our officiant but it doesnt have my name change stuff on it. My I-94 expires on Feb 18th.....what should I do???

As far as SS#, my husband arrived and wthin 2 weeks we applied fo rhis SS#. It's a bit different when the foreign spouse is female. But what I understand you should apply right after POE and prior to marriage due to the name change issue. Someone else can better advise on that.
As far as what is next, it is in the guides. Go to the AOS forum and review posts on AOS and SS applications. Time to do some research.
Ok, so I found the AOS forum...but where the heck do i start with all of this?? We thought we had to wait to get the SSN because my last name was going to change. I dont have a SSN, and need to apply for and EAD, AND temp gc. Where should I start??!!

Hello all!
Finally got hitched last week in California and trying to start all my paper work for temp green card, EAD, and SS#. Can anyone tell me if we need to do the SS# FIRST in order to do the temp gc etc??? Also when applying for a SS# I'm assuming I'll need our certified copy of marriage certificate to prove my last name change? HELP!!!
Thanks!!!

Hi there,
Just wanted to let you know that a regular police record check is all the want. Did my interview on September 7th, I'm from Canada and I had no issues at all.
Goodluck:)
OMG! Thanks so much! Heading to get that done now. How was your interview? What should I expect?

I'm in Canada & immigrating to the U.S. In my readings I've read that I dont need finger prints so I guess Ill go with that?

1. Can anyone tell me if the packet 3 checklist only pertains to the beneficiary unless it specifies "petitioner"?
2. With the Police certificate(is this same as criminal record check?) do I need finger prints or pictures done as well? If I need finger prints, do I need ink or digital?
HELP! THANKS!

We received notice saying that our approved 129 was being forwarded from NVC to the consulate. The letter just says,"Go to our website http://nvc.state.gove/k1 to learn how to apply for a K visa and prepare for the visa interview."
So I've checked out that website and they say to complete a DS-160. I did that, but at the end it asks me to check off ,"i hereby certify that i have received a copy of the IMBRA pamphlet as part of my application packet." Well I haven't recieved anything in the mail as of yet. Do I wait to receive something to send in this completed form? Or am I just waiting for a packet and notice of date of interview? HELP! So confused!!!
Thanks!

He means this , Royal Canadian Mounted Police
From reading, they charge $25
So is the "police report" the same as a "criminal record check"? If so, when I go in do I just ask for a criminal record check,? and also do they want digital finger prints or ink and roll finger prints? Any other info I need to get while I'm there?

Hi, you can also get one for the Commissionaires http://commissionaires.bc.ca/
I was advised it is a little bit cheaper to go into their office than online.. but is already cheaper than direct through local RCMP - well in BC anyway.
I just have NO CLUE where to start. Yes I need a police report for Canada. I live in B.C. So what is this Commisionaires thing? And you recommend this is cheaper than direct to RCMP?

Thanks so much!!!
