  1. Hi, my wife just got her green card and I was wondering if she could travel to europe on the green card without applying for a visa beforehand. I know for any US citizens, most countries in the world allow them to enter their country without a visa as long as they don't stay past 30, 60, 90, 6 months....depending on each country's laws. I'm not sure if this applies to green card holders as well.

  2. Hi all,

My wife just got her instructions for the interview and I noticed that it says that after the interview approval, "passports containing visas will be returned in sealed envelopes via courier service. Applicants should NOT open their envelopes and must hand carry them on the plane".

Ok....if she's not allowed to open the the envelope to get her passport, how is she going to get on the plane in the first place?

  3. Does anyone know how I can talk to a real person at the AIT in Taiwan??

My case was completed and forwarded there on Oct. 19, 2006 and I'm wondering if they've recieved it yet..........

From the maze navigating the automated messages I basically found out 2 options:

    1. Email them

    2. Leave them your number and they'll get back to you (but only local numbers from Taiwan)

    Soooo..................

The best I can do is write an email to them because they are unable to return calls from overseas.....the problem is I've emailed them before and they never got back to me..............

Seeing that my case was forwarded on the 19th......I'm pretty sure they should have got it by now but my wife hasn't recieved anything......That's why I'm asking to see if anyone knows any "direct" numbers to a real live person.

  4. I got a letter saying my case was forwarded to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) on Oct. 19, 2006. It says they suggest bringing my tax forms for the past 3 years and any other supporting documents if there was an I-864 filed. Does that mean I need to mail my wife those documents?.....I would have thought since I already filed the I-864 with the tax forms for the last 3 years and my evidence of current employment AND given my case was "completed".....I thought it would mean there's no problems with financial support.

What else is needed or suggested for the interview? Or should my wife just wait until she gets the packet by the AIT?

Oh...by the way....I have another question......I applied for a K3 visa and after several months of waiting AIT sent her a packet of information including a medical exam. She went to take the medical exam for the K3.....My question is....could she used the medical exam for the CR-1?? After she got her medical back, she was told not to open the envelope and only bring it to the interview.

Thanks for any help!! : )

  5. Just called the NVC automated response and it said "the NVC is awaiting biographic forms from the petitioner....."

Does this mean they have generated and sent out the DS230? If so......I was under the impression that Part I (the biographic section) of the form is for the beneficiary....not the petitioner....

I've already sent in my I-864 and IV bill a couple weeks ago....so I'm guessing the only form left is the DS230......

Because of the lag time in sending documents between two countries, could she sign her name (in black ink) then email me a scanned copy so I can print it out and send it off immediately? Or will the NVC reject this?

  7. I didn't use assets for my income requirements, but just wondering "what if" I did.....

I currently make US$60,000/annually and according to the I-864 directions,

"the total value of your assets must equal at least 5 times the difference between your total household income and the current poverty guidelines for your household size."

For just me and my wife, the 2006 poverty guideline is $16,500..........SO....that would mean

($60,000-$16,500) x 5 = $217,500.......?????....this would take me forever to save because I don't have a house or any other assets.......

In the directions....the next line says:

"However, if you are a US citizen and you are sponsoring your spouse or minor child, the total value of your assets must only be equal to at least 3 times the difference."

But still....(60,000 - 16,500)x 3 = $130,500...which is way more than I can save for many many many many years.................

    Am I doing the math right????........or am I just crazy.... : )

  8. I just sent my I-864EZ packet with:

    Barcode sheet

Authorization for release of federal data

    I-864EZ form

    2005 IRS Tax Transcript

    2004 IRS Tax Transcript

    2003 IRS Tax Transcript

    Employment letter

    Past 6 months pay stubs.

Did I need to send in W-2s? On the I-186EZ instructions, it says not to send in W-2s if you provide the IRS transcript.....but on the form's checklist it says to provide a copy of your most recent tax returns including W-2s.......

  9. I read in the instructions for the I-864 form that instead of using a photocopy of your tax returns you can request a tax transcript from the IRS and send that instead.

Well.....when I got the transcripts, I was a little surprised......it looks very "plain"...just 6 plain white pages for each tax year and looks like it was done on a typewriter or just with a "print screen" option.

And it doesn't even have the tax year printed anywhere on it!!!???? I had to look at my W-2s just to see what tax transcript correlated with which tax year......

Is this what the IRS transcript suppose to look like? I would think it would be something more "official"...but I guess I'm wrong.......

The only reason I requested a transcript instead of trying to photocopy my W-2s is that with the photocopy, you also have to provide the 1099s along with your W-2s. For my 2004 return, I "misplaced" my 1099s and can't find them....

I know you only need to provide last year's tax return, but I was unemployed the entire year so I think I need to provide them with my last 3 returns along with verification of my current employment and paystubs to show that I can support my wife when she gets here.

    Thanks for any help!!!

  10. I was originally sent 2 RFEs last month (for K-3 IMBRA) and I sent one back with the USCIS recieving it on 7/24/06. This was confirmed on my online status which was:

"On July 24, 2006, we received your response to our request for evidence or information. However because preliminary processing was complete, the remaining processing time will be less than the maximum stated in this message. You will receive a written decision on this case. You can use our processing dates to estimate when this case will be done. Follow the the link below for current processing dates. "

It was "touched" again on 7/26/06, but nothing else after that. I'm seeing so people having their K-3s approved so quickly (within a few days) after the RFE but mine seems to be "stuck" because its been about 3 weeks.......is it because I need to send back the 2nd RFE????

Both RFEs were exactly the same so I didn't bother sending the duplicate back. Is this the problem?

  11. Hi all.....to be honest...I'm really tired of waiting for my K-3 application to be processed.....and with this new IMBRA situation....I have a feeling my wife will be waiting a long time......

I filed my paperwork back in late March 2006......and according to the USCIS website, my application was recieved on April 13, 2006.....As of today...I'm still waiting for any kind of response.....

    Here's my question:

My wife is in Taiwan and I've already talked to the consular office in Taiwan (AIT). They have assured me it takes only approx. 4 weeks for all the paperwork to go through.....My question is...will I be able to file another K-3 application at the consular office? I'm sure 4 weeks from now....I'll still be waiting on word from IMBRA......

I rather pay another $170 and get my wife here in 4 weeks rather than wait until who knows when the IMBRA thing will straighten out......

hang in there..friends of mine filed end of February (I130) and no news since...except they just received notice case approved June 21 and on th NVC... hopefully you will hear soon too

How did your friends' cases get approved so quickly? Aren't they still processing cases from Dec. 17, 2006 for the I-130s? My I-130 was recieved on March 29, 2006 and when I log into the USCIS website, it says it was last updated April 5, 2006 which I assume was just a update because of the check being cleared.

When do you expect my I-130 to be approved? And after approval, how long is it usually before my wife can come here to the US?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!!

  13. I've noticed that when some people post topics, they also post their status on their progress.....My question is how is it that some people have either their I-130s or I-129Fs approved so quickly when the lag time is usually around 6-7 months on the I-130s at the California Serv. Center......I just noticed that some people send in their I-130s (also to CSC) around March 2006 (the same time I've sent my I-130) and they've already had theirs approved. And according to the USCIS website, they are only still processing applications from Dec. 17, 2005 (as of June 20). How is this possible?
