  1. Want to thank you all VJ members for their tips and advice over the last year when I started the K-1 Fiance Visa process.  After successfully going through the interview for I-485 AOS and being approved on the spot.  My wife has received her green card in the mail officially.  Was a pretty painless process and if followed each instruction and tips on this website, which I did, there is no need for any lawyer as I never hired anybody to do our case and nor did we ever receive a single RFE.  Good luck to all and thank you for your help.  Cheers.

  2. Had our interview last week for I-485.  Our interview went well and was very very basic and simple and hardly thirty minutes at max.  The officer said to us I will go ahead give my approval for the case pending some last checks and you should have your approval letter in a month and green card in a month or two.  We left the office very happy and we decided to have lunch and while i was in the restaurant, this was not more than one hour after the interview, i checked online and it said CARD WAS IN PRODUCTION.  We were over the moon as that was pretty quick.  Then later that night, the status changed to CASE WAS APPROVED and we will mail you a letter of approval in the mail.  So I am confused and want to make sure if all is still well and is this normal to go back and forth with status changes in a day.

  3. Take everything you have and, given your living situation, have you parents sign an affidavit explaining you living situation like you planned.

You will need a new I-864 for your new job.

Thank you so much for the advice and tip. Now that you have answered my question, i have another. I will fill out a new I-864 for my new job and the new salary is not below the poverty guidelines but just barely above. However, my father who of course lives in the same house as we are joint family system, is supporting me and wants to provide a affadavit of support for my application as my income is at the bare minimum. So does he fill out a I-864 as well, or he just fills out a I-864A to go with my new I-864. Thank you my friend and Happy New Year.

  4. My wife and I have our AOS interview soon. We are adjusting from a K1 Fiance Visa. I was in the process of gathering documents and evidences as the list indicates in the AOS interview letter we received. However, I have no bills or rental/lease for which I am responsible for. The main reason is i live with my parents as part of a joint family system and have been living with my parents since birth. So me and my wife live with my parents and will continue to do so. So in this case, the only joint items I can provide is bank accounts, credit card , health/life insurance benefits from my job along with of course photos and travel documents we showing we traveled together. And my parents are both writing a letter which state that me and my wife live with them and will be continuing to do so for the future.

Secondly, i just changed employers and the employer that I listed in her initial application is not current anymore. Therefore, do i need to take my new job offer letter only or I have to fill out another i-864 out for my new employer. Also since i did take a pay cut with the new job and I am having my father also provide a I-864 as a joint sponsor. Any other suggestions and tips would be appreciated. Happy Holidays.

  5. Hi there fellow VJ members. Have some good news to share for some that are waiting for there case updates. I live in the Washington DC area and I had filed my I-485 AOS application from a K-1 Fiance visa in September of this year. In October I got my wifes biometrics done and then the waiting game started. Then in November my online case status updated that our AOS application is now ready to be scheduled for interview. At that time i was expecting a long wait cause considering and assuming I live in the DC area, the DC field office have cases that are being processed from Jan-Feb of this year. But thank god and im so grateful, yesterday morning the status has changed and my wife and I have been given a interview date in January 2017. So from filing in September 2016- January 2017, thats literally 4 months. Half of what the timeline suggests. So thought i share this for some who are firm believers of the timelines on these websites.

Lastly, i have changed jobs from the time I applied so, i was told i just need to take a updated I-864 with me , any other tips or advices I can get i would certainly appreciate. If someone from the Washington DC area who just recently interviewed, what are the chances of getting approved same day and the timeline to actually get the greencard physically. Thank you and good luck to all.

  6. I have my wife's AOS I-485 pending waiting for the interview to be scheduled. We are adjusting from a K1 fiance visa. We are just awaiting on a interview date. Of course this process is such overwhelming with no updates or timeline tracking, we dont know when the interview will take place. I am having various job offers from overseas which are hard to turn down as the industry I am in, has no future in the USA unfortunately. So me and my wife are highly considering to move abroad and after few yrs when my contract ends, I can reapply for her case via IR/CR visa which should grant her residential status whenever we come back. My question is with a pending I-485 FOR AOS, does my wife leave with me right away for my overseas stint with a pending I-485 or we have to notify someone before we leave to change our application type to IR/CR.

2ndly, if i do decide to continue with this I-485 process via her K1 fiance visa. And if i change jobs here in the USA, and as per our initial application it has the information from my previous employer, am i required to notify them about my job change or take anything specific to the AOS interview whenever it happens. Honestly, i wish there was at least some better info on where the case actually is rather than just posting on the website, CASE IS READY TO BE SCHEDULED FOR INTERVIEW for months. And the toll free numbers or infopass is waste of time and useless in my opinion.

  7. Some of you may have read about my situation in the past but I am looking for an alternate way around this now. My wife who came here on a K1 Fiance Visa in August. We got married and filed for her AOS process. She got her fingerprints completed and now as per the USCIS website status it says, your case is now ready to be scheduled for interview. I am from the Northern Virginia area so based on that time line, cases are being approved and interviews scheduled in around 6 months. I have a career job offer overseas in Dubai, UAE on a 3 yr contract. I tried to decline the job as my wifes case is my top priority and dont want her status to be effected if i do go abroad, cause i dont know when she will be called for interview and I cannot get off to come back during the first 6 months. But my prospective employer has requested that they are willing to delay my start date as they dont want to lose me. And i know we both have to reside together in the USA for 2 yrs minimum to have our conditions removed once she gets her Greencard. So would like to know if there is any way or if any procedure that can be explained that while if I accept this job in Dubai and we both move there for the 3 yrs and reapply for her AOS case or whatever process once we are ready to come back to the USA, because my plan is to move back after the 3 yr contract is over and i want to know what alternate way is around so I dont lose my job or have a negative effect on her case, of course if there is a way. Cause if there is no way then I will have to decline this job regardless but since this is once in a lifetime opportunity for me in my career, its hard to decline it.

  8. Well thank you for the response. Well I am not the beneficiary. My wife is the beneficiary and yes def she has no plans to travel. I the Petitioner being US Citizen travel overseas due to my job so thats why i had asked so i can make sure I can get ample time to be off so I can go with her if they ask. Thank you. Best of luck to you as well. Regards.

You are advised not to travel once you begin, if you do travel and leave without the AP, you would then abandon the I-485. You have to remain in the country once all of that is complete. As for the timeframe it varies. Some people due to their state have gotten two weeks to two months in advance.. and I can only imagine that places like my city would be very unpredictable. You just begun your journey, I wish you all the best.

  9. I filed my AOS I-485 in September. They received my case on September 19,2016. On October 14th, we got our biometrics done. And the following week we got a update on the uscis.gov that your case is now ready to be scheduled for an interview. I know that timeline is very unpredictable and nobody knows as it all depends on the workload and timeline of the particular office. But today is November 2nd , i am sure our next update will be a interview date notification in the mail in the future. Roughly, how much time they give you between the interview notification date and the actual interview. I actually travel overseas due to work, so i want to make sure I am in town when that date happens and i have ample time to request off. Thank you.

  11. Hello fellow VJ members. Looks like the process has been pretty speedy so far which is quite surprising based on the other timelines I am following on here for AOS. My wife came on a K1 Fiance visa in August. We got married within a week as per the guidelines. I filed her AOS (I-485) and the packet was received on September 19,2016. In the first week of October we got the biometrics(fingerprinting) appointment for October 12th, 2016. Now today on October 24th, i checked online and the status has changed to CASE IS READY TO BE SCHEDULED FOR AN INTERVIEW. Based on this speedy process, when can I expect to get a interview date and any tips for the interview would be highly appreciated. I am from the Northern Virginia area so I assume my case most likely has gone to the DC field office but im just assuming. Thank you.

  13. My fiance (now wife) came on a K1 Visa on Aug 24, 2016. As per the procedure we got married the same week and filed for AOS procedure. I got my notification of receipt as well and last week we got her letter for BIOMETRICS (fingerprinting) for this upcoming Friday the 14th of October. As per the I-94 her validation is until November 21, 2016. I want to know is there any thing else that needs to be done or notify someone incase her AOS/Green Card arrival doesnt happen until November 21, is there anything i need to do to extend her validation cause I am pretty sure her Greencard wont come that quick based on the timeline. Thank you for all your feedback as always.

  14. My fiance came to US last month on K1 Visa. As the process demands, we got married within first week of her arrival. I have filed for her AOS process. Of course nobody knows a exact timeline as each individual case is different, but what is the approximate timeline from date of filing of AOS till getting her greencard. I have seen the AOS timeline but would like to hear about some recent cases that were completed successfully and second when and if she has her interview towards the conclusion of this process, do i have to go with her to the interview or the interview will be solely with her.Thank you

  15. My fiance will be traveling with me to the USA in few days from Pakistan. Wr had no direct or.short route flight due to seat availability so we booked our flight itinerary from lahore pakistan to doha, qatar and have two hr layover there. Then we have a connecting flight two hrs later from Doha to London. We have a 5 hr layover in London before we depart from.there to New York. My question is will my fiance who is on a K1 visa required to have a transit visa in London for the 5 hr m layover at the airport we have. Thank you

  16. Well first of all. Let me clarify to the last comment. It's common sense and I don't need to be told whether I love her or not. Of course I love her and yes there is no way I will be away from her this long. My only point is that is there a way I can keep my career option open without disturbing her green card process. Because my opportunity is a 3 yr contract. Once the contract is over , we will move back to the USA . I being the us citizen will not have any problem but I want to make sure she goes through the same process. If u read clearly above I never said we will be living apart in this three year period. She will be moving with me for sure to Dubai in any condition regardless. I will talk to my lawyer this week to see the process and will be happy to share more input here for others.

  17. Well the job is with Emirates airlines and it's a 3 yr contract . So my plan is to eventually move her over there anyways after she gets her green card but until she is on the conditional and temporary green card , I heard when I can file her paperwork when she arrives to also file the I-131 which can allow her to visit me back and forth on a regular basis. She will be living with my parents here at our home residence obviously .

  18. I had posted months ago but now that the time has gone by, would like some assistance. I applied for my fiance to come to the USA on a K-1 visa from Pakistan. Well she is arriving here in the USA in few weeks. However, I had interviewed for a career job opportunity which requires me to relocate overseas, (DUBAI). I am set to start my job in November. I know my fiance cannot leave the USA as she is arriving on a K-1 visa, but she has to wait till she gets a conditional(temporary) green card I am told to travel limitedly. My first question is what is the average time she can get the temporary green card which will allow her to travel back and forth to visit me while I am in Dubai. And how long is the average timeframe for her to get her permanent greencard after arriving in the USA. And lastly, if she does live here with my family while I am in Dubai, would this create a issue or problem when the time has come for her to get her permanent green card and if I am required to be living with her even though, it would be due to my job that I would have to relocate in December. Appreciate any assistance with this process.
