  1. Hi all!

My fiance just received packet 3 from the Montreal Consulate (woo!). Now we are wondering if it is possible to schedule the medical exam and interview in the same week. Does anyone have experience doing this? He lives in Saskatchewan and trips to Montreal are quite expensive, so he would like to schedule them as close as possible.

    Thanks for the feedback!

  2. The instructions for preparing for the medical interview in Canada state:

US immigration law requires immigrant and K visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirement or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive each of the following vaccinations:.....

I am not entirely clear whether its necessary to go to the interview itself with all of the required vaccinations, since it just specifies that the vaccinations are needed before issuing the visa itself.

If someone has any experience with Montreal and this issue in particular, please help!

  3. Hi all,

My fiance believes that he is missing one of the required vaccinations listed for immigration. We are wondering if he needs to get this done BEFORE the medical interview or is it something that they can perform for him there? Also do his shot records need to be notarized? We are filing through Montreal.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. You only send it for the interview, and then again for AOS once married in the USA.

You will still need to show tax returns for the last 3 years (though some embassies will accept 1 year), to prove you paid taxes, it's not just about the "current and ongoing income".

Sorry, just reading through and saw this. Can you clarify at which stage the 3 years of tax returns are necessary? I am getting contents ready for packet 3, so only on the I134 currently and the instructions do not say anything about providing tax returns.

    Thanks for your help.

  5. Hi all,

My fiance and I are filing through the consulate in Montreal and we are in the process of getting our documents together for Packet 3. They require evidence of my (the petitioner) domicile in the United States, but I am not sure exactly what to do for this. I have been living with my father for the past 6 months but am moving to Alexandria, VA at the end of next month to attend graduate school. We haven't received the NOA2 in the mail yet, but online it says that our case was approved on July 29th....so going by the general time estimates the consulate could have our case by the end of next month.

Should I provide proof of having lived where I am currently with my father as well as proof of where I will be living in August? I won't have much to show for domicile in Virginia besides a lease contract, since my recent pay stubs, tax return and driver's license all indicate residence in Florida. Perhaps I should write a letter explaining my situation?

If anyone could help with this, that'd be much appreciated!!

  6. It took them 3 days after we emailed them our packet 3 for them to email us our packet 4.

May I ask how long between receiving packet for and the actual interview date? If you are that far along, of course.

My fiance and I are trying to prepare everything ahead of time and get a rough idea of what we are looking at in terms of waiting. I just saw that the Vancouver consulate is no longer processing K1s, so am getting a bit bummed out by the long wait in Montreal....

(my fiance is Venezuelan (hence the flag) but resides in Canada, just fyi)

  7. Thanks everyone, this has been really helpful! We have decided to try and renew it ASAP, but apparently the Venezuelan government will cancel his current passport if he tries to renew before 6 months before it expires (so before October). I guess it might be just as well though it will throw off some of our travel plans sadly..

Oh, so apparently the issue with renewing it before that 6month-to-expiry window is that if his passport gets annulled, his documents that allow him to stay and work in Canada may be suspended as well. So we will be making some phone calls to try and straighten that issue out. How frustrating! ><

  8. Hi everyone! Still new here but have been finding this website so very helpful and would like to reach out for a concern I have.

So far, I have submitted the I-129f and received the NOA1 on April 26. My fiancé is Venezuelan, but he lives in Canada. Based on the current timeline info, I'm guessing that the consulate there will receive his application packet around September and we will be looking at an interview in maybe Nov/Dec if all goes well.

The question we have is concerning the fact that his passport is set to expire in March 2017. The Venezuelan consulate in Canada recommends allowing 60 days for passport renewals. We are not sure whether to get his passport renewed sometime in October, so he has time before needing it to get his K1 visa and travel to the US...OR...should we wait until he is here and we get married?

I'm not too clear on whether he will need to send his passport for the AOS and/or the authorization to work processes. We are hoping to get married asap after he arrives so that we can begin his work authorization stuff.

Any helpful advice is much appreciated!

  9. Thank you for your help.

May I ask you to clarify what USC and LPR mean?

Also, I have begun sifting through the USCIS wesbite for forms and instructions for the affadavit of support, etc., but still have not found anything about specifically how to submit a co-sponsor. Could you or someone else please direct me to more specific instructions here? I don't see anything on the I-134 nor the other affadavit of support form re: a co-sponsor.

    Thanks again,

    O

**I believe I have figured it out. It appears that the form I-1864A should be used to use a co-sponsor on the affadavit of support. Could someone please confirm this?

    Thanks

  10. You will need the I-134 at the K-1 visa interview. The co-sponsor needs to earn enough for their own household size plus the foreign fiance(e). Since the dad claimed you on his taxes, then he will need to include you and your fiance(e) in his household count. Each supplies most recent taxes and proof of current annual income via a letter from employer and recent pay stubs. Some consulates will also want to see proof that the co-sponor is a USC or LPR.

NOTE: Different consulates can have different requirements and processes. This response is to the poster I quoted only, and not about LONDON, which the OP will go through.

    Thank you for your help.

  11. Hello Susan:

My daughter as well as yours petitioned her husband on a K1 visa. She is a student living at home and does not make enough to be the only sponsor. Either you or someone else that makes above the 125% poverty guideline will have to be a joint sponsor. I was the joint sponsor for her K1 visa and they are happily married and living at my house until she completes her last College semester and finds a job. For her husbands AOS I am also the joint sponsor and we are just waiting for his employment authorization, advance parole and conditional green card. As you can see we are an exmple of a similar case as yours...it was a long wait for the K 1 visa approval but that is another story. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.

    Regards,

    L

    Hi,

I have been reading through this thread and have to admit this is the first I've seen about the income requirements. Very frustrated I didn't realize this sooner, but your comment is reassuring at least. I am in a similar situation to what your daughter was in and am hoping you could answer a couple of questions. First, here is a quick explanation of my situation:

I (the US based petitioner) am 23, claimed as a dependent on my father's taxes for 2015. I filed my own taxes with an annual income of less than the poverty line. I graduated from school last year and am enrolled to start a Master's program this fall (so will again come in under the poverty line).

I'm fairly confident that my father will agree to co-sponsor my fiance. Though he is a Venezuelan national, he will be going through the US consulate in Canada since that is where he has just finished school and will be working until the K-1 visa goes through.

    Now, my question:

At what stage in the game did the question of a co-sponsor come up? Is there a separate form for co-sponsoring alongside the I-134 that must be submitted by the fiance to the consulate? Will my income situation hinder the I-129f petition getting approved? I would like to have as many ducks in a row as possible before he begins his stage of the process so that we can hopefully get him here sooner than later.

Thanks in advance for your help!!
