  1. Here's our current status: We were married in February 2015 and started the immigration process in May. We've been approved at each step and now her interview is scheduled at the Moscow embassy on 6/22/2016. Her son will be coming here with her.

At the same time, she's trying to get a transfer within her company so that she can work in the US when she gets here. She lived and worked in the US during two very brief periods in 2000 and 2001 while working as a camp counselor, so she has a Social Security card that still has her previous name on it. The reason we didn't start immigration until May after getting married in February is that we were waiting for the Russian government to get her name changed on her passport, so her immigration information was all submitted with my last name. From what I can gather from the Social Security department website, she is required to actually be here with valid immigration papers in order to submit for the name change on her card.

So, the question is - can she work as soon as she arrives with the green card and the Social Security card showing her previous name (along with providing paperwork showing that her name changed), or will we have to wait until Social Security gets her the new card with the updated name?

  2. Hi all,

I called he NVC and they said they approved everything and its on the the interview.

I received an email from them after saying that I will need 2015 tax information for the co-sponsor.

Has anyone else gotten this? Is this normal after the April 15th file deadline?

    thanks

I got the same requirement today on the checklist I got for my wife. They are scheduling the interview, but I have to get copies of the 2015 tax return to her to take with her.

  3. So, this evening I got the 2nd of two emails about my cases. My wife (CR1) will be coming over with her son (IR2) from Moscow. The emails both contained checklists with minor issues that i need to correct, but they don't want me to send the paperwork back to NVC - they want the corrected documents sent to my wife and stepson to be taken directly to the interview(s). Nowhere in the letters does it say what the interview date will be, just that they will schedule it. However, in the subject line of each email, after the case number, it says "06JUL2015 CKLST COVER LETTER."

So, my question is - what does that date of 06JUL2015 mean? That date has no relevance to us. Our case origination date was May 8, 2015, and it wasn't processed until late October. There was never any activity on July 6th that I'm aware of. I do know that the lady I talked to at NVC the other day said that if our cases were processed this week, we'd likely see a July interview date.

Also, will they interview my wife and stepson together, or separately? He's 18, but for the purposes of immigration is considered a minor. I sent an email to the embassy and I was told that I do NOT have to be present, although I thought I had seen elsewhere that I would have to be present. I guess if the embassy says I don't, then I don't, but I'll likely try to go over anyway.

  4. My scan date was 3/22/2016, and I got a checklist yesterday 4/21/2016. The checklist is for a couple of minor things (corrections to my Affadavit of Support as well as a copy of my 2015 tax return) and they are not requiring me to send those in before they schedule the interview. I'm just supposed to get these couple of documents to my wife and her son so that they can take them to the interview when it is scheduled. My understanding from speaking to the people at the NVC is that the interview will likely be in July in Moscow.
