  1. To no avail, I contacted my senators & congressman today asking for updates on the requests for assistance I sent in a month ago.

One senator's aide told me that they're on Nov 25 cases (LIES LIES LIES LIES LIES!!!) so give them another month or two since I'm still within current processing time.

The other senator's aide and congressman's aide weren't there. I left a message for one, but the other one's voicemail didn't work. Guess I'll try them again tomorrow.

Maybe I'll try NVC, but I hesitate to do that cause they talk to you like you're crazy for asking for asking them if they received an unapproved petition.

    ------------

So far of all the government people I've spoken with, only one person followed this logic. Does this make sense to anyone else:

If on April 30 they were on cases from November 25 (or 28), then by May 30 they should've been on cases from late December. It's now nearly end of June, so they should be on cases from late January. Even if they're running almost a month behind, I'm STILL outside of processing time.

    I wonder Nat,

how you seem to see touch's when so many other people including myself, have not seen any nor did my status change, and mine has been approved since June 6.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy to see that your case is at least getting touch's, I certainly hope for your approval, but why do some get touch's and updates such as approved, but others get nothing.

  2. Good letter DK,

I think the biggest issue with all these late petitions is that there is no transparency between USCIS and the customer. Some time ago I was reading rules of USCIS, don't know how I got on this site, but anyway they repeat time after time, CUSTOMER SERVICE. More than likely the people that work there are good people, ofcoarse we all work in places where you have "rabbits and turtles", but the real issue I see is a broken system with no petitioner involvement or update. I can't believe that these many case's are just being ignored or lost. There has got to be a reason. Maybe some kind of name hit or something, that they cannot resolve. My question is, why can't they communicate this information to the customer. Throw out the call center "list of responses" and start to work with the customer, US!

Although I have been approved, and finally out of NVC jail, ( I think the dna test they did paid off, you know, I sealed the envelope with saliva). I am extremely dissatisfied with this whole system. With Obama talking about immigration reform, (obama's a whole nother topic), this system had better be changed or updated or future people in this position will not be waiting 6 months for an approval, but more like 1-2 years.

I'm hoping for your posts this week guys, it's gotta be close....

  3. UPDATE UPDATE.........

I guess giving NVC a hard time paid off.......well maybe not, the ride isn't over yet, but at least the AP in NVC is. I was told today that it had been released on Friday, 6/19/09 from NVC. I went to tracking on the 19th, but there was no pickup for Rio. I did check for pick up on Monday, and by-golly, there was one there........hmmmm could that be mine? Funny thing is, I did call on Friday and was told to call in a week and they would be able to check on a cep change (like zip code here in the states)...... guess maybe my luck is changing, or at least I hope so.

Hang in there guys.... I know it's tough. I'm still here rooting for your 2-NOA's........ Hope they all come soon.

  5. Does anyone know if the police certificates have to be translated into english? good morning everyone!!! good morning Liz!!!

My buddy just went through the consulate in Rio, everything that his SO had to get for the interview did not have to be translated. They speak both portuguese and english, and in fact at the interview asked him if he would rather speak english or portuguese when they asked him questions.

  6. I just called NVC to see if I was stuck in AP and the guy I spoke with didn't know what that was. He said it can take several weeks to be sent to the embassy and that the embassy would contact me when they have it. I have been reading that the paperwork is sent within a few days or it is stuck in AP. Would I be wrong in assuming that I was stuck in AP? Or should I wait a few days to find out. NVC got my approval june 12 (last saturday)

When you called NVC, did you ask them date of arrival and date of departure from NVC? When I called, they specifically told me that it had not left, it was still there, and then I asked them why, it was now 1 week and a day past what the NVC letter stated it would be sent to the embassy, and he told me that we were in AP, there is no time limit. and I agree with a previous post, some called this letter, the "letter of lies", because basically in my case it is a flat lie!

  7. add me to the list as well.......

received the letter, got the consulate number.....

but it hasn't left NVC......I'm in AP, and no time frame is given.

I asked, how can you send out a letter with a blatent lie? ( the letter doesn't say if you pass the name check ) it says your case will be forwarded within a week!

  8. ok, maybe some one has this answer. I just called NVC, I had received the letter dated June 11, that they have received my approved petition. It also states that the case will be forwarded within a week to the consulate. I called just to find out the date of arrival and the date of departure from NVC.

I was not happy to find out that we have been chosen for AP. How can they do this, after sending me a letter saying that it will be forwarded within a week? The person who answered the phone told me that the letter is generic, and that it is not a guarantee that it will be forwarded within a week. anyone get this as well?

  9. My fiance just submitted his review, so here it is for anyone who's curious :)

My K1 visa journey at Rio:

    - I stayed at Hotel Formule 1 (R$ 99 daily, about U$ 50), the room is really small and there is no room service, but it works if you just want a place to sleep, it is like 10 minutes from the consulate in a cab and it costs about R$ 7 (U$ 3.50) to get there. Don't expect too much from this part of the city, it is on the center of the downtown, and it is *dirty*. And at night it is really scary, lots of bums getting food from trash on the streets.

    - When you get at the consulate, there will be a huge line, don't go there! Ask the consulate people about immigration visa, there will be a person there helping people, and she will tell you to go upstairs, to the immigration department. If she is not there (she is the one helping upstairs too), you will have to wait in line.

    - To get there, you will need to leave all the electronic stuff on the reception, go on the xray, then ask for the immigration room, or just follow the signs.

    - Upstairs, she will be helping people with the papers, she will give two sheets to everybody, one is a form to fill your name and contact info and the other one is the document order (the same one on the document list of the website, be aware that the website has a link called "IMPORTANT: Order of the documents" that is outdated, look at the "Documents required for visa", i've made all the forms on both of the links tho, just to be sure)

    - ATTENTION!!! Main problems I saw with other applicants:

    - Photo not showing ears!

    - Missing forms

    - Just one copy of DS-156 (you need two)

    - Form DS-156 printed from somewhere else. The DS-156 *MUST* be filled online and the result printed, and doing a mistake on this one is a big no, because you can't file it by hand, and your appointment will be rescheduled.

    * Besides that, the attendant is very nice and allow people to go out to take new photos, copies or get help from relatives (in case they are not there with you already)

    - Then she will call each person to check if everything is filled and in order and helping (actually she will put it in order for you in case you didn't do it correctly).

    - After that, each applicant is called in a cabin, but it is not the interview yet, you will get your documents reviewed again by another person, that will take them to prepare for the interview with the consul later.

    - And the waiting for the interview starts ! If you are nervous, it is a nice time to talk to the other applicants, or to help people that don't know vj and are having trouble preparing the forms

    - Then after one hour or two, I was called to the consul's cabin. My interview was really fast, it took less than 10 minutes:

    - First I had to swear I was saying the truth and that everything on the documents were true, then sign the sworn statements on the forms (I think there are two, read the forms so you don't sign the ones you have to sign with the consul).

    - After the sworn statement, he started with the questions, that in my case, were just a few: he asked how and when I've met my fiancee in person, the dates we've met, when we decided to marry, how much time we've spent together already and when our son was born.

    - A hint is to stay calm and answer the questions without thinking too much, i was a bit nervous and answered some dates wrong, but I corrected it later and it was OK. Remember it is normal to make confusion with dates, specially if you are a man (LOL ), the most important is to stay calm, tell the truth and act naturally.

    - Even though he didn't ask for any proof or evidence of my relationship, it is highly recommended to bring proof for the interview, cause the consul usually looks at them.

    - Then out of the blue, he said "ok, your visa will be approved" , gave me a green paper and told me to talk to the girl outside to finish the process.

    - With the paper, I just needed to talk to the girl again, go downstairs and pay to get it shipped to my house (it was R$ 39, about U$ 20), I think it depends on where you live, so be sure you have more money with you, because there is no pick up option, you have to pay to get it delivered.

    - They said it takes between 3-5 business days to have the visa done, and up to 7 business days to get it after it is shipped, this part was kind of scary, I didn't feel too confident in the person saying that, so I don't know, I am waiting to see when it gets here. So be sure you don't go crazy and buy a ticket for the next day, because you will still need to get the visa in hands!

    Congratulations!

Thanks for the info on the interview.

I've heard that the visa will be realeased from the consul 1-2 days, since you got approved yesterday and early yesterday, I would presume that yours might already be in transit. If not, it will be going out today. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if your SO has the visa in hand by Friday!

once again Congrats, and good luck with your new journey now.

  10. form W-2 is a form from his employer showing earnings and tax's held, and other deductions. Form 1040 is his income tax return. Both are acceptable, I'm sure you will only need to show one or the other. Form 1040 is probably a better judge of his financial support, since he may have had other jobs as well.

Relax, I know it's hard to do that now, but you have to walk in to the embassy with confidence. Get all your papers together, check them once, check them twice, make a checklist if you need to....... then check it again. Put them in a big envelope, and forget about it till very early tuesday morning.

Good luck at your interview......Your gonna do fine!
