He was in Italy illegally so it was an expulsion for no papers. He was supposed to return about 2 weeks after he was stopped so they could process his deportation. He never showed up. A few months later we met and then he returned to Albania. He hasn't been in Italy for 6 years, but in December when he was flying home to Albania he checked with German customs at the airport and they told him he wasn't allowed in Europe until March 2012, but that the entry in the system would renew automatically unless he did something.

The SF Italian Embassy is clueless, not a problem they normally deal with. When he was in Albania he went to the Italian Embassy and they knew what to do, but said it would take months and he needed to be available, so that wasn't really an option. His cousin checked with an Italian lawyer and they said they can't help.

In April he had to fly home for an emergency and in Austria they let him pass through customs (it was the only way to get to the next plane), but he doesn't think they actually ran his passport, so we don't even know if he is still banned and we don't know how to find out or fix it if he still is.

I don't think that having a new citizenship or a new passport would void the foglio di via. The expulsion order is on the person, not on his/her passport. What does the foglio di via say? Does it expire at some point? Maybe talking to an attorney in Italy could be an option (good luck with that).

My husband was issues an expulsion order from Italy back in 2006. He did not report in to be deported, but later moved home to Albania and then here in Dec 2006. We have been married almost 6 years and he has been a citizen for 2 years, but we still can't visit Europe because he is in the system. Anyone know how we file an application to lift his expulsion order so we can travel in Europe? Any help would be appreciated as the Italian Embassy in SF doesn't have a clue what to do!

Yeah, I'm confused. How do they go from Jan 2002 for f4 to Jan 2000. Something seems a little fishy. Sometimes they seem to stop or go back a few months, if a few more people responded than they thought, but how do you loose 2 years? Very discouraging.

They cashed the checks yesterday, so they must have got the applications:-)

I just stuck ours in the regular post with stamps this time. I figured with a nine year wait why worry about when it got there. I figure I drove myself crazy enough with my husband's fillings:-)

Well, we mailed off both sister's applications this last Saturday. Only nine plus years to go.

We just got their birth certificates in the mail. We will be mailing off their applications this weekend. Does anyone know if we should have gotten their wedding certificates too, to explain their name change? The application deos not ask for it, but on the USCIS website it mentions proof of name change.

Has anyone else noticed that in the May 2010 bulletin they were working on May 2000 applications and in the September 2010 bulletin they are working on October 2001. I wonder if they are through some backlog of sibling applications and it is going to speed up now. A few years ago I thought it would be 12 years once we were able to apply for my husband's sisters and now it looks to be 9 years. I hope it keeps shrinking and doesn't go back the other way.

I thought we were done last month when my husband became a citizen, but we are now waiting for his sister's birth certificates. We should have them in about two weeks and then we start a twelve year journey to bring them here. We will probably apply for his parents in 12 years so they can come with the sisters, as they don't seem to really want to come now. See ya'll again in a few weeks.

No, they said the pledge of allegiance to the flag like we all did in school, but they didn't cover their hearts she told them to raise their hand. Later they said the oath to become a citizen and then of course they raised their hand to swear in.

When the lady announced the different countries that were represented she mispronounced several countries, including my husband's, and then laughed about it. We were given 5 minutes to go up and take pictures and 3 minutes into it she started yelling it wasn't social hour and we would see them later so go back to our seats. The actual ceremony took 10 minutes after 1 1/2 hours of waiting in the heat. The judge wasn't much better. She told them to raise their hand for the pledge of allegiance instead of putting their hand on their heart and when she said the oath for them to repeat she would string together 10 or so hard words, but when it came to the easy part she'd stop after 3 or 4 words.

Overall, I am embarrassed that the new citizens of this country had to experience that and I hope other ceremonies are better and that this was just a fluke.

My husband is so excited about this coming Monday. He's invited my whole family and all his friends to come watch the oath ceremony and then we are having a Bar-B-Q at my Mom's afterwards. He is even sending me down to Fresno Sunday, so I can prep for the party.

I will be married to a U.S. citizen in three weeks. My husband passed his test/interview today and is scheduled July 19th for the oath. I can't believe it, but the guy asked my husband what it was like to be married to someone 10 years older! Anyways, we are excited. We got an e-mail and a text yesterday that they had my husband's application. I checked online at the bank today and the check for the application cleard 3/29 and for the biometrics 3/30.

Did anyone else's e-mail say that they were sending it to National? That seems a little strange to mail it to Arizona to have it sent to Nebraska to have it sent back to Califormia for his interview.

The three years starts on the date that is on your original Green Card. If you have been married three years at the time of application you can submit your application 90 days before the three years for the Green Card. So, if you married January 1, 2006 and got your Green Card April 15, 2006, than you can apply January 15, 2009 for you citizenship. If you married February 1, 2006 and got your Green Card April 15, 2009 you would have to wait until February 1 2009 to apply, only 75 or so days before your three years.

Hope that makes sense.

I find it funny how these posts always start to attack somebody or some culture. How many of you know American wives or husbands that credit card their American spouse to death. Differences in money management don't really have anything to do with what culture you are from. How many American/American marriages end in divorce because of money issues?

With regards to sending money home. It is not just an Asian thing. My spouse sent money home when he lived abroad to support his parents. It was a known thing going into the marriage that I would take up that responsibility until he could get a job here in the States. Age and sex don't have anything to do with the responsibility some feel to their family's. Would we live in a smaller house so my husband's family could eat three square meals a day? Yes. Would we do it so they could have a car? No. I don't provide my own parents money, but when they are too old to work they can come live with me. My husband's can't.

I think we need to each look at our own situation and review it with our spouses to come to a comfortable solution for all. I agree threatening the spouse seems extreme, but until we hear the other side of the story it is hard to have the whole picture.

My husband was in Italy illegally for almost two years. He had snuck in, so there was no stamp in his passport. We showed pictures of us together in Italy and he went to the Albanian Embassy there to renew his passport and I just submitted that letter with a date on it to show that he was in Italy as the same time as me. The hardest thing will be to get the police report, but as he entered legally, I would think you could request one without much problem. Don't mention his over stay and just ask for the police report. Lots of people here have gone through the same thing and the US only cares if you have broken US immigration law, not another countries. Whatever you do don't lie, because if you get caught there is no way they will let him in.

You need to have your Green card for 5 years to apply to be a citizen or 3 years if you are married to an American. You can apply 90 days early if you have been married for over 3 years at time of application.

You have to be a US Citizen first. Then you can apply for your Mom.
