  1. I'm mailing legal documents to my fiance in Lagos, Nigeria. He does not live there in Lagos but will be there until his K1 interview. How do I address this package of documents to him in Lagos through Fed Ex. They don't seem to have an answer for me so I'm asking here! Is it possible for Fed Ex to hold mail at their address location or do I need to have it addressed to a random church or buisness there and address it with his name and the church or buisness name on it also. I can't lose these documents and I just can't figure out the mailing system in Nigeria. How to address it correctly and to make sure he gets it or signs for it. Anyone have experience with Nigeria and Fed ex without an address? Thank you!!!!

  2. When I went through the process for Haiti I went to the Haitian portal and went through the members' timelines. That gave me some idea of approval rates. I also glanced through the threads started by Haitian members and read the ones concerning denials to see what were the common reasons for denial. It took a lot of time but it gave me am idea of what we were in for.

Nigeria is a hard embassy so you might not like what you find. I'm glad you front loaded your petition with evidence. That should help. How long was your visit? Are you able to visit again before (or for) the interview? The amount of time spent in person can play a big role in getting an approval. If you can't, then you'll need as much paper evidence as possible. So keep documenting things and be sure to get them to your fiancé for the interview. Good luck.

I went to visit him for only 8 days because it was over my Spring break for nursing school. I have proof of me being in college (not that they care) but I'm still sending it with copy of my diploma ect... b/c he did try to come see me since I was in school twice but was denied to visit USA. I want to go visit him again now but I cannot afford it at this time as I just graduated. I have plenty of proof of phone bills/call logs, messages, skypes, but just only 8 days spent together in person. Do you think if I go it would really help a lot more, so much that they would approve it? If I knew for sure it'd help I would find a way but it'd only be for one week I'm sure is all..... Thank you!

  3. I shouldnt have any red flags, but when I visited he had matching native cloths made for me and my son. I did send 4 pics of us together in native cloths posing at a photo place there. My son was not there but when I got home to USA I did take pics of my son dressed in the matching native cloths. I never knew they didn't like that or I wouldn't have sent it in.... oh gosh. Why do they care? We didn't get married or have anything besides taking pics one day for like 30 min with a photographer. Hope they look past it, I sent many other pics too.

  4. the ones getting denied are ones that didnt fully overcome redflags , lack of evidence, of the couple wasnt genuine , age gaps, dowrys.did offerings ,had same attire in photos , and etc .From what ive researched it mainly dumb mistakes that get ppl denied ,Any genuine couple with no redflags will be just fine , look at the recent consulate reviews , if u notice things have been going pretty well , and u frontloaded so your already doing a good job

ive even seen couples only visit once and get approved in nigeria so you should be ok , search the forums and look up the ppl who got denied ,best way to avoid mistakes in your case

  5. Does anyone know the statistics on the percentage of K1 visas issued compared to their denials after their interview? I know each case is different and so is each consular but overall is there a way here to know? I've been with my fiance for 1 year but only met in person once b/c I've been in nursing school. He tried to come twice to visit me 1st with a B2 visa and was denied of course otherwise we would have met more than once! Any advice? I front loaded with many phone bills, messages, skype, and my boarding passes from when I visited Nigeria. Thanks

  6. I have 3 kids and I do have my 1040 ready and I know the poverty guidelines. I'm just very short if ypu look on my 1040. But I recieve child support and have also been living off student loans while working a little through nursing school. I'm just not sure if they look at all that as income. I also filed a month and half ago already, so I'm praying I can find a co sponsor. I just thought it'd be easier to find one but so far no luck:( I do have a nursing job lined up but will likely not start until middle of summer so that's not soon enough. I would even pay someone to co sponsor me because I can't wait another year to do this again. I graduate in a week and a half. Thanks for your response!

  7. Does it appear on your income taxes? How many children do you have? That changes the amount needed. I am no expert but from what I have heard, you may need to delay filing until you have more of a record of income. I have even heard that people who made a good income in 2015 but on a temporary contract abroad don't qualify, because that non-continuing employment counts as "zero". (That might be the case for me as I was gone all of last year, and paid no US income tax because my salary was earned abroad and I spent no time in the US; luckily I have enough savings to qualify through savings alone, and will have about seven months of 2016 salary to show by the time of interview.)

I would have a hard time finding a joint sponsor as well (no one in my family is wealthy, but even if they were, why would they agree to be financially responsible for a foreigner? y'all have some generous families) so I understand your concerns. Congratulations on finishing nursing school. I'm a nurse, also. I hope you have a job lined up! They can be difficult to find, although it's getting a bit easier.

  8. You can request this thread to be moved to the Sub-Saharan forum as it is embassy specific.

How do I request that? I'm new to this site.....

5- 7 pay stubs should be enough id think

I should be able to show 5-7 pay stubs of good enough pay, but what about my 2015 taxes with very low pay? Will I still be ok?

  9. Hoping someone comes along to answer your specific 'length of job for Lagos' question.

Generally 2 months is not long enough but I do not know what Lagos wants in regards to that even with an employer letter and bank statements etc.

Line up a joint sponsor just in case.

6-8 months worth of pay stubs would definitely be better.

    Thank you for your help!

  10. I will be graduating in 6 weeks from nursing school, then will make good money. I have not been working much over past 2 years. I will be able to show 2 months of good income by the time I need to fill out I-134 for my fiance but do I need to show last year's income tax for US embassy Nigeria? I hear some use tax info and some dont. I will be able to prove good income but just don't know how many months or years they like to see in nigeria for K1 interview..... Im having hard time finding a sponsor to help.

  11. if there normal section 214b denials i dont see an issue , tourist visas dont affect k1 visas , what would affect it was if there was mispresentation or something ,fraud related , ive seen ppl on this forum have 3-4 denials but got approved with their k1 , a tourist denial for visiiting a bf or gf clearly shows , the k1 would be great for yall

    Thank you so much!!

  12. We have been in a relationship 11 months, and engaged for 3 months. He applied for 2 tourist visa's to US in 2015, one for a wedding of our friend who attends our church here in the US. He was only asked 2 questions at each interview and they did not look at any documents which he had many. They barley gave him 2 minutes of their time.... Since those applications we became engaged and I recently traveled there to meet him. Only problem is that I was listed as the address he would be staying at in his last tourist visa application even though we were not yet engaged at the time. We do have mutual friends from our church here where I live.....

  13. Will my fiance's prior tourist visa denials to the USA within the previous year affect our K1 visa application? He was only asked 2 questions for his tourist visa interviews and had all documentation but was not asked for anything and was in there for 1-2 minutes if that. We are worried if it will affect us for K1 visa even though we have met in person once and have plenty of evidence for our relationship.

Will this hurt us or not?

  14. I recently applied for K1 visa for my fiance in Nigeria. He has applied for 2 tourist visa's to visit the USA within a year of me filing the K1 visa which he was denied both times. Most people are denied tourist visa's to come to the USA from Nigeria, especially if single. They only asked him 2 questions at both interviews for the tourist visa's and never asked for any documents or evidence which he had (one was for a wedding invitation here). We have been in a relationship for over 11 months and engaged 3months, I have been to Nigeria to visit him once, and we have tons of phone records and messages throughout I have sent along with photos and receipts. Do you think that his prior US tourist visa denials will affect his K1 visa interview even though he did nothing wrong???

    Thank you!!

And how long is the normal wait time from start to finish for most K1 visa's for Nigerian fiance? Some look like 4 months and some 6-8 months! Is this really accurate? I was thinking it'd take longer but I'll be so happy if it's not.

    Kristi
