  1. Hi everyone,

My CC was June 2nd.  Embassy is Japan.

I got the below email on Friday.  How long will it be until my interview is scheduled? Anyone have any idea?

    Dear Sir/Madam,

The National Visa Center (NVC) received all the requested documentation for this immigrant visa case. The

applicant is now in the queue awaiting an interview appointment overseas, where a consular officer will adjudicate

    the applicant’s visa application.

NVC schedules appointments one month in advance. The U.S. Embassy tells us what dates they are holding

interviews, and NVC fills these appointments as they become documentarily qualified. Most appointments are set

within three months of NVC’s receipt of all requested documentation. However, before applicants in a numerically

limited (preference) visa category can receive an appointment, their priority date must also be current. This can

delay receipt of an appointment. You can track your priority date using the Visa Bulletin on travel.state.gov.

When an appointment is available, we will notify the applicant, petitioner and attorney (if applicable). The

applicant can prepare now by reading about the embassy’s interview requirements online at nvc.state.gov/interview.

    Thank you for your patience.

The embassy may require additional documents at the interview. For example, if the following three items are all

true, the applicant must bring a new police certificate to the visa interview:

    He or she is more than 16 years old;

The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year

    ago; and

He or she still lives in the country that issued the certificate.

The applicant should not make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment until the embassy has

    issued a visa.

    Sincerely,

    National Visa Center

  2. Hi all,

I sent my IV and AOS packages together last week.  This morning I received an email saying the following are missing:

***NVC Notice of Missing Item: Please submit Affidavit of Support documents ****

****NVC Notice of Missing Item: Please submit civil documents ****

Is this normal? I put all my AOS documents in one folder, and the IV documents (including immigrant's birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.) in another folder, then sent them together.

Does anyone else have this experience? It seems like they are basically asking for EVERYTHING again.  Is this right?

    Any help please.

    Thank you,

    -Ryan

  3. Well, I'm not really sure if your somewhat bitter attitude was warranted in your reply, but as I mentioned, it has to do with both of our careers. We both eventually want to live in America, but may not be ready to quit our jobs and move back within 9 or 10 months.

You also didn't answer my question. If we get her passport stamped and then come back to Japan before the physical green card is issued, will there be any major problems when we leave/re-enter America?

Thank you and please drop the attitude if possible.

So if you do not wish to live in the US, why would you apply for the IR-1? The entire reason to apply for a Spousal VISA is to immigrate to the US, not live in Japan. You are allowed to travel on a GC, but primary residence must be in the US, otherwise her card will be cancelled and you will just have to go through the entire process again.

    Good Luck
  4. We are currently waiting for NOA2 and thinking about our future, where to live, etc.

I know this is a bit of an odd question, but in thinking about our careers, we began to wonder about our options.

Assuming our IR-1 process is complete and we get her visa approved, can we still stay abroad?

For example, let's say the IR-1 gets approved, we go back to America just for a week or two vacation, get the stamp in her passport, and then decide to come back to Japan while waiting for the green card to be sent to my parents' house.

Can we still get her green card while living abroad? Will that look shady? Is it legal?

We want to have the option of living in America OR Japan, and aren't ready to quit our jobs in Japan just yet...

    Please help if possible.

    Thanks,

    -Ryan

  5. Hi everyone,

First time poster here, but long time reader.

I am American, my lovely wife is Japanese. We have been happily married for just over a year and a half and would like to apply for an IR-1 visa. We have not started any paper work yet.

Do we need to wait exactly until the 2 year anniversary to submit our I-130, or can we start the process earlier? I know it can take a year or more to finally get the visa, so we want to start as soon as possible, but don't want to deal with removing the conditions on the CR-1.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    -Ryan
