  1. My fiance had his interview August 17th at the embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal. It had been rescheduled from June because he had to go back for a sputum test for TB. He was approved and was finally able to pick up the visa today. The issue date says August 26 and the expiration date is November 4 - less than 90 days validity. I thought six months was standard.

I waited until he was approved to buy the plane tickets, but I assumed the six month window, so I have already bought plane tickets to go there and both of us arrive in the US in mid November.

I emailed the embassy, assuming it is a mistake, and asked how we can fix it. Does anyone else have experience of having a shorter valid time on their K-1 visa?

  2. Maybe some people who recently had interviews at the Kathmandu embassy can comment on the scheduling procedure. The embassy website info seems to conflict with what I've heard here, but maybe I'm thinking of members' experiences in other countries.

The US embassy site - http://nepal.usembassy.gov/fiance-of-a-us-citizen.html - says 1) after they receive the I-129F they will contact the fiance to pick up instructions on how to proceed ("Packet 3") and 2) the fiance then has to gather the needed documents, go back to the embassy and take the documents just to make the appointment, and then of course they will take the documents again to the interview. Farther down on the page I mentioned, it says they pay the visa fee at the embassy the day of the interview.

I just noticed that they have fiance visa grouped under "immigrant visa", but they have different procedures listed under "non-immigrant visa", including paying the visa fee at a bank, not the embassy.

Was this your experience in Nepal or was everything done online / through mail except for the actual interview date? I could just wait for their letter, but I want to get ahead of things.

One last question - did the embassy email the fiance in Nepal to notify them or only send a letter?

    Thanks!

  3. NP. In the original packet I only sent my letter of intent with the declaration + outline of my visits there. It was all in one letter. We knew we had not put his in, but only responded after we got the RFE. This has already been such a long process and we haven't even received the NOA2. :(

Looks like we're on the same schedule as you are and for the same reason, although I also overlooked a question on the forms. I'll feel better once we get the NOA2.

I signed up on the USCIS site for email / text notifications so I will know ASAP when there's news.

  4. Thank you so much!! I've been trying to find out this info myself to get ahead of things, but I didn't realize they would have it on the embassy website.

Did your fiancee get her birth certificate translated to English? And did she have to have a photocopy to leave there or just show them the original?

  5. I'm hoping to get a heads-up on what Nepal-specific things my fiance will need to take with him to the interview. I know about all the standard things discussed here (copy of I-129F, updated proof of relationship, affidavit of support, etc.), but there is always a mention of requirements that individual countries have. I know they will send him a list, but we would like to start early.

I told him to find his birth certificate and get an official translation - if he doesn't need it at the interview then he will still need it eventually in the US. I've heard people mention police certificates, but I can't remember if Nepal was a country that does that.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks.
