  1. Hi, just wanted to let everyone know I had my oath ceremony on Oct 14 in Brooklyn (225 Cadman Plaza). I had to leave for an international trip the next day (got a same day US passport from Manhattan passport agency after making an afternoon appointment ahead of time) so didn't have time to update the forum until now. Anyway, for those in the future who may find it helpful, here's a detailed summary of my timeline below. Thanks again for everyone's contributions and best of luck to those who are still waiting!

  2. Hi everyone, I had my interview today. I got all of the civics questions right but can only remember four of them (name 1 of 2 longest rivers, when was Declaration of Independence written, who lived here before Europeans arrived, and what are first 10 amendments called).

The IO said he'd recommend me for approval but that before scheduling the oath ceremony there was a data entry error on their end that needed to be fixed (I think one of the pictures they had in their system was of somebody else with a similar name). So the N-652 I got actually had the "a decision cannot be made about your application" box checked. Not sure what the time frame on this delay is but he seemed to imply it wouldn't take too long. Did anyone encounter something similar?

Thank you all for contributing to this thread! I've found it to be very helpful and reassuring.

  3. This is probably more of a question for the NYC folks, but I was wondering how important it was to have a State issued ID for the interview (as listed in the required documents). Living in NYC I don't have a need for a driver's license but I do have a city issued NYC ID, which has my photo and lists my current address. I'm curious how critical a State Issued ID is when I already have a passport, green card, city ID, tax form etc. If any one has any insight please let me know!

  4. Actually never mind. I just got notification that my interview has been scheduled (same day as in line)! Haven't gotten the letter yet obviously. Hopefully sometime this week or early next week.

Hi everyone, I was finally placed in line for an interview today (July 5)!

I actually had a trip scheduled for out of the country between August 10-29. Of course if my interview is scheduled during this time I won't be able to go.

Since I had to wait so long in between biometrics (Mar 24) and being placed in line, is it possible that I'll get my interview letter sooner than the typical one month wait time? I've noticed in previous months filers who had to wait longer to be placed in line often got their interview letters soon after that (1-2 weeks). Of course, there are no guarantees but I'm hoping I'll be able to do this interview and go on my trip. :)

  6. It's a little early to worry or think about calling anyone...

Three December 2015 applicants (including myself) were placed inline this week and last week.

A May 2015 applicant was placed inline this week.

Since you applied early and and your GC date is 05/05 and you were not placed inline on 04/05, then you can assume that your background check is taking slightly longer than average... don't worry, it's probably nothing at all to do with you. See explanation here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/593952-in-line-for-interview-exactly-1-month-before-anniversary/

As you can see from the dates above, background checks can take a few months.

I would consider calling when it's been 4-6 months since you applied. I wouldn't bother with an Infopass until it's been over 6 months. None of these are firm guidelines, just recommendations so you don't waste your time.

I don't think you have anything to be concerned about at this point.

Hi Jimmy, thanks for your advice and this info. This is really helpful to know. I'm not going to worry for the time being. Hopefully I'll be placed in line by August but if not I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Thanks again!

  7. Hi everyone, just an update on my end. I still haven't been placed in line yet (did my biometrics on 3/24), which I guess means I'm still undergoing a background check. Assuming nothing changes in the next few weeks, at what point should I contact someone at USCIS? Also, when that time comes should I do Infopass or is there another process for people in my situation. Thanks!

  8. Did you file early under the 5 year rule?

Hi Tim & Cai, yes I filed about 2.5 months early. However, I noticed that others who had done so generally got their in line notifications exactly a month before their anniversary date. I'm not sure why this didn't happen for me. It could be that there's a longer queue for Chinese citizens. Or it could be because I traveled a lot internationally over the past few years (all short trips that fall within the rules). However, I already had a successful background check + fingerprints when I received Global Entry so it's anyone guess at this point. Anyway, all I can do is be patient and hope for the best!

  9. Hi everyone, I also applied for naturalization this February (I live in Brooklyn, NY and lockbox is Dallas) and have found this forum to be quite helpful. I had a few questions about the process and was hoping to get the forum's input. First, below is my timeline to date:

    05/05/2011 Received Green Card

02/22/2016 N-400 Filing Date (Sent package via UPS).

03/01/2016 I-797C (NOA) letter was sent to me by USCIS via USPS.
03/05/2016 I-797C (NOA) received by regular mail (USPS).

03/08/2016 Fingerprints (Biometrics) appointment letter was sent to me by USCIS via USPS.

03/11/2016 Fingerprints (Biometrics) appointment letter was delivered to me.
    03/24/2016 Biometrics appointment

Assuming my process was like others in the forum (which I understand isn't always the case), I would have expected to receive notification by now that I was in line for an interview. While I did apply earlier than the five year anniversary of my green card, I noticed that most folks in similar situations would be in line by a month before their anniversary date. My anniversary date is May 5th so I guess I expected to see an in line notification by now. However, my online status still reads "Case Received from 2/26/16" even though I've already completed my biometrics appointment. So I guess I have a few questions for everyone:

    1. Is the only way to be notified that one is in line for an interview via e-mail or checking online? Since my status clearly isn't being updated properly, is it possible I may not hear anything until I actually get my interview scheduling letter?

    2. It's also possible it might just happen to take a longer for my case to be "in line for interview". Is there a date by which I haven't been notified that I should follow up with someone at USCIS? I'm willing to wait a few more weeks but was just curious as to what the process was.

Unfortunately the online system isn't very accurate so I can only play this guessing game. :) If anyone can shed some light that would be much appreciated!
