  1. Really helpful information, thank you! I learned that my DS-3025 (or: "Vaccination Documentation Sheet", as it is called) can replace the I-693.

But next to this Vaccination documentation sheet and a CD-rom, I also got a sealed envelope, with a sticker stating:

"K1-applicant copies of medical forms. Retain this sealed envelope for your I-485 application with the USCIS Office. Do not open".

Does this mean I keep the envelope until I have the interview, or should I send it in with the I-485 and other forms?! Would USCIS have another set of copies of these medical forms?

  2. You can get a social security number almost as soon as you arrive. You no longer need to wait two weeks.

My fiancé entered at POE on Wednesday afternoon and we applied for his SSN on Friday morning, no problem.

In most states it's almost pointless to get a driver's license before you have an EAD. You can usually get one with your I-94 as long as you have a certain amount of time remaining on it, but it will expire on the same day as I-94. Because you have to pay each time you get a new one, it's probably better to just wait until you have your EAD.

    This is really helpfull!! Thnks!

  3. Thanks to you all!

After you marry, you can apply for SS card number and driving licence

if you do not drive, the DMV (department of motor vehicles ) will issue photo ID instead of driving licence

this is proof of ID and address

    no national ID here

Ah, I see! I do drive.

They can apply for an SSN now. They do not have to wait until they are married.

    Print out your I-94 info > https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html

Follow this guide for getting the SSN > http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

Follow this guide for AOS > http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

The fees are listed here > http://www.uscis.gov/i-485

The fees for the I-765(EAD-work authorization) and I-131(AP-advance parole for travel) are waived when filed with a pending I-485, so include both of those too. It takes about 60-90 days to receive the EAD/AP combo card, which will allow you to work(along with an SSN) and re-enter the US when traveling abroad while waiting for the green card approval.

You need all the supporting documents for each form as well, so read the instructions for each one. You can also search here on VJ for what to include with each form if you get stumped. There are also example forms here on VJ you can look at when filling out the forms. They can be helpful.

And here are the details you need about whether or not you need to see a civil surgeon > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/551080-immunizations-ds-3025-or-i-693/

Very helpful info! I read in the SSN guide that I can apply for the SSN about two weeks after entering the US. I didn't enter yet (planning late September).

  4. I am approaching the end of the K1-visa application. Interview at the consulate in 3 weeks. So I am taking care of all kind of practical things.

I was wondering how the civic registration works in the US.

In the Netherlands you go to City hall when you move to register your new address. How does this work in the US?

And when are you an 'official resident'? Only after you receive the greencard? Or when I enter on the K1-visa?

Hope someone can help me! :-)

  5. I am also trying to get all the required vaccinations done and just posted another message about this. I was wondering if you need all these vaccinations, regardless age or home country And now I see this post.

Hey guys! How are you doing?

while I wait for the process to go through I'm taking care of my vaccines. The list i got from the consulate doctor had 4 vaccines as mandatory for my age: TD (tetanus), MMR, Influenza and varicella. I got some questions about a couple of them. I already got the TD and varicella, those are fine, but I cannot find the Influenza one, because it says it is the seasonal one, which here in Brazil is H1n1, and the doctor says its not this one. Do you know if theres a specific name for that shot? And also, MMR, i got the shot when i was 1 year old. Do I need to get it again or its once in a lifetime?

I know each consulate and doctor is different, but I keep asking about this "flu shot" and everybody says something different! I need assistance!! lol

    Thank you :)

hi beatrizteller, how do you know which vaccinations are mandatory for your age? And is this different per country?

It's the influenza vaccine. You are correct, it is seasonal. It typically isn't available until September. You are not expected to receive if it is out of season.

hi liefde_overzee, do you know more about the Dutch vaccinations requirements?

  6. The website Karin provided has the checklist the embassy will send you (the pdf file near the top of the page). You can start gathering all of those documents (some will be needed from your fiance). Having all of that documentation in hand will make things much quicker once you receive packet 3. Also, there are examples of DS-160 under the forms section here on VJ that you could scan over to ensure you have all of that information gathered. If you haven't already, try getting your vaccination record that you will need for the medical exam. If you are missing any vaccines, you could make an appointment with your doctor now to get those (probably covered with your health insurance) to save some money at your medical with the civil surgeon.

Does everyone in the world you need all vaccinations on this list: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/vaccinations.html ?

I went to the Public Health department in Amsterdam yesterday (GGD) yesterday. Some of the vaccinations on the list you get here as a child. Hepatitis A vaccination I got when I traveled outside Europe, Hep.B vaccination I got yesterday. But a few of them are still unclear to me: do I really need to take them?

    - Influenza (griepprik) is traditionally given to people over 60 or 65. Do I need it, being 41?

    - Meningococcal?

    - Pertussis (kinkhoest)?

    - Rotavirus? She told me my doctor/GP can do a blood test?

Hope someone can help! Especially people people who have to go the the Amsterdam consulate.

  7. Thank you....I think what's making it so tough is following timelines and seeing that mostly all of February NOA1 dates received NOA2s and all of a sudden March isn't moving. :clock::clock::protest::crying: .....All kinds of emotions here lol

    My feelings indeed!

We also called USCIS a few days ago and I wouldn't beleive when they said it would take 5 months. I guessed this is the official time frame.

It also had the impression it went fast in February, and all of a sudden it really slows down. We got our NOA1 on March 3rd, so I had put my hopes on getting the NOA2 this week... Now back to just being patient. :-(

  8. I came to the US for a 2 week vacation to see my fiancé, arriving last Friday. We are in the middle of the K1-visa process.

I had a whole bunch of documents to prove I still have ties with my home country. My POE was Philadelphia. When asked what the purpose of my visit was, I said vacation. Then she only asked for how long (2 weeks). That was all! This was the easiest questioning I ever had!

I was really happy to read all your posts, because I was kind of nervous before they might not let me in. It was as easy as many of you said it would be!

  9. If you have a WAC number, your petition was routed to CSC, not transferred. I know there are very many people on here who are confused about this. You sent the petition to Texas lockbox, not TSC - they are not related. Please update your timeline when you get the chance - it will improve the processing estimates for you and all other K1's on VJ :-)

Every single person sends their petition to Texas as the instructions say. From there it goes to either California or to the Texas processing center. The place you sent it to in Texas is an intake facility the fact that they also process petitions in Texas (not at the same address) is purely coincidental.

Thanks! I didn't know until now. I just updated my timeline.

  10. Oh, btw, for accuracy of your timeline... You have a WAC.... number, right? Then your case wasn't transferred from Texas to California, but routed directly to California. Many people confuse the lockbox in Texas with the service center, but they are not the same :-) No cases have been routed to TSC the last year.

hi A'n'L, I am reading this post and see you mention that WAC numbers mean your I-129 was routed directly to California. Since we sent ours to Texas and then got a notice it was transferred to California, I assumed it was first routed to TSC. Apparantly this was not the case. So would it be better to adjust my timeline?
