Hi, can anyone tell me what I can take as evidence of ties to my country other than employment and property/rent? As I am planning on leaving my country behind we are currently working on getting rid of all my ties to the UK, my house is on the market and will be sold by the time I come to travel, and I will be living with my parents until the visa is approved. I already gave up my job to spend 3 months with my SO before we put the visa app in so I won't have anything! We'll be on NOA2 when I come to travel. Is there anything I can do?

Can you get a rental agreement from your parents?

Everytime I travelled to the USA from the UK during our K1 process they never asked for evidence but I took it just in case. They most important thing you need is proof of a return flight, so make sure you have that to hand. Im sure a rental agreement from your parents and proof of a return flight would be sufficient.

  2. I'm still debating on right away telling them "visiting my fiancé" or just "vacation" when they ask my reason to visit. Or both, "vacation with my fiancé,"

If they ask you why your visiting I would say "vacation" if they ask into that then you need to be honest I guess, I always said I was visiting friends up until visa process. But I did work here so it wasn't a lie either because I did!

We're actually doing a vacation together, he took off too and we're also going to look at wedding venues, should I mention that if they ask for what I'm going to do? I'm like 50/50 nervous lol. I hope Washington is not going to give me a hard time.

I wouldn't say your visiting wedding venues or mention "wedding" just say your visiting. If your going in to the USA to plan a wedding they may take that as "entering with intent to marry" and raise some red flags in the officers eyes.

Just be honest but some say more than what they ask you. As long as your have your evidence that you will be returning they should be fine as you aren't doing anything illegal.

  3. Hey guys,

I am in the USA visiting my fiancé now first the first time since we filed for K1, I had never been so nervous going through immigration! I am senior at college so I took a letter from my professor stating how long I'm enrolled in university for, my exam timetable, a letter of leave from my employee, return ticket and a copy of my esta (never took that much precaution before)

Well I had never been asked so little questions at immigration in all my life! He asked me "why am I in the USA?" I responded with "vacation" and that was it!!! Usually get asked about school and work but none of that. So little to say I got worked up for nothing, so try and relax and just be prepared and you'll be fine, your not breaking any laws by visiting, you have every right to do so. :)

  4. Hi,

Yes all the terms are very confusing but I think you've managed to help me figure it out so thank you all!

We received the NOA1 on Jan 14th, and it was from the California service centre (need to change my timeline) so we will wait for the NOA2. I just used the tracker online and it says it was received, so I hope it will turn to approved soon. He has not been sent an RFE form but we will see what happens. I don't think he missed anything, he sent 2 forms (the petition and the recipt form, sorry I can't remember the form names) and the money. Was there anything else?

I have some friends that I using lawyers but that's only because of previous visas, but we will try to do it ourselves.

I am not aware of my J1 visa having the 2 year residency, is there a way I can find out? But it it's June/July that's fine, as we are hoping to get the K1 for September, do you think that is possible?

Thank you all and sorry for knowing absolutely nothing about this haha. You've been a great help!!

    Hi Laura

Your j1 does not have a 2 year residency restriction.

I too was a j1 holder and now filed for our fiancé visa.

Received NOA2 via the case tracker app March 1st. Now waiting for NOA2 hard copy in the mail.

  6. My fiancé and I have been back and forth every 3 months for the past 3 years. We both never have had any problems with customs. I used to work in America on a J1 visa so anytime they ask why I am visiting I say "visiting friends"

I was told never to tell customs that your visiting a partner. I am traveling back to the states mid March so fingers crossed there are still no problems!! Hopefully last flight before embassy interview ??

    Good Luck everyone!!!
