This information is contained in the timelines collected here. There is no general answer, and it seems that even for specific field offices, the time can vary wildly. For me it took 7 months, but I've seen various people posting here who got their NOA within two from the same office.

Thanks, WyoCowgirl and KASH2011! I'm excited that things are finally moving along.

Received my interview letter yesterday; interview is scheduled for 10/18

Finally a status change; in line as of yesterday.

call uscis tier 2 they told me your case in back ground check now almost 9 month Washington d.c field office any one stuck in d.c office
I'm a fellow January 2016 filer with the D.C. field office. It's gonna be three months since I filed and two months since my biometrics appointment next week.
Anyone know who/where I should call if I want to try and find out whether there's anything to do to speed this process up?

Your case is marriage based or work based? Also, are you filing 90 days early? I could have filed in May 2014 based on married to US citizen and having Green card for 3 yeas but I just delayed it, thought now, it should go faster considering I am already filing it late, I think I should just look for the interview letter in the mail, I doubt my online status would ever change.
Marriage-based, filing early (but not the full 90 days--filed about a month after becoming eligible).

Also, my online status has not changed since I filed my application, not sure what's the deal with that. A friend of mine with the same field office filed on December 15, 2015 and his online status just got updated to "interview scheduled" , is there anyone on this thread with the similar situation to mine?
Stuck at "received your application" as well despite having done my biometrics two weeks ago.

Actually, most people (but not all) do receive a text and email when they are placed inline... if they signed up for alerts.
The G1145 form for text and email notification is only good for the notification of initial receipt of your application. After that you need to go to the USCIS website, create and account, and turn on your alerts. Since you have your receipt number you can do that now.
to answer your question, yes, your online status should change when you are placed inline for an interview (although this doesn't always happen). If you applied 90 days early, it's very unlikely that you'll be placed inline more than 1 month before your anniversary date.
Thanks! I did apply early, but as soon as I could, and my GC anniversary date is coming up in three weeks by now. Haven't been put in line though.

It's been 8 days since my biometrics appointment, yet when I check my status online it just says that they received my application in January. The status does change when you're put in line for an interview, right? I foolishly didn't sign up for text messages.

Hi,
New to the forum, not messing with the list, so if someone wants to add my info, please go ahead.
GC 3/13/2013, filed 1/16/16, biometrics 2/11/16.
Filed in TX, residing in DC. Applying under 3-year rule. Keeping fingers crossed for a quick turnaround.

Had my ceremony today! Glad this process is finally complete; took way longer than anticipated.
