  1. A bit confused on process, I see 5 years as time frame to have green card before you can apply for US Citizenship on website.  My wife came on a K-1 visa and we have successfully processed all documents up to the lifting of conditions which we still have not received approval (applied 12/31/18 received a one year extension).

I thought she could apply for citizenship 3 years from the time she received her AOS green card?

Can we apply even though we might not have received the Lifting of Conditions approval?

    Thanks all in advance!

  2. Steve Jobless. I feel you...Moving here is really tough at the start. I am too experiencing some Adjustment period issues and homesickness. I am very happy being with my husband and I love him so much but since I am not allowed yet to apply jobs I feel so worthless not being able to help him in the finances which I love doing and been doing that (helping bills in my family when I was still single). I enjoy doing house chores but since I'm used to working my body is looking for that "busy life" I used to have.

The funny thing is before I came here, I had been reading a lot of article on how to cope with this adjustment period and I thought I am fully equipped but I was wrong. It is truly different once you are in the situation. So many things to adjust...from being single to being married and living with someone whom both of you were raised differently and had different life experiences from the past, adjusting to new life style, new environment, trying to make new friends. Regaining the "Established you" is such a process.. I am going through that process and I am thankful my husband is very supportive but it really needs TIME AND PATIENCE.

Extend your patience, hopefully you will be able to find job soon and regain your confidence and self-esteem. Always remember IF THERE IS LIFE, THERE IS HOPE. Look for your happiness, YES! but DON'T GIVE UP TOO EASILY. A new year might bring new opportunities for you and for the job you have been looking for.

    Be happy and STAY HAPPY!

  3. Hi,

We don't know your whole story but I guess try your best to talk to her.. heart to heart.. ask her what's bothering her or why she is thinking of going back to Philippines. Maybe she feels homesickness! I have been here for 3 months and still battling with homesickness. It takes time to fully adjust with the kind of life you have here.

How old is the baby? When you are at work, is she and the baby left alone in the house? Again, we don't know your whole story but try to talk to her about the custody of the child.. Maybe she just said she will go back home because she can't feel the comfort, understanding, patience in her adjustment period. Back home, her family is there that can give her the warm full support that she might be looking for.

I am a Filipina and NOT all Filipinas are after the financial support. We are warm loving people, the warmness and emotional connection is more important to us. Maybe she can't feel that emotional connection from you in her transition stage so she prefers going back home, leaving everything here just to be with her family where there is love and care especially in raising the kid.

Try to put yourself in her shoes. You are in a strange place, no family here, no friends. Totally different of the simple life she used to. Simple but there is love and warmth.

  4. We applied day 2 after her arrival and received card in mail within about a week. Did not even bring the I-94 to the social security office the worker in the SSA office pulled it offline for us, but I would have brought it if I remembered. And I am sorry I can't remember what we checked on the card for question #5. We knew she can't work till after the filing for the papers with the AOS. Well like previously stated I guess she have filed to work but by the the time we really had approval the K-1 visa would have run out so we are just waiting to file after the marriage.

  5. Hi. I know exactly how you feel we did the same thing on our I-129F. Did not check either box in 15, whether she had been to US. Funny though we did answer other parts of question 15 (a) with N/A. We did not receive an RFE. But it did take 76 days for NOA2 fro NOA1. She had never been to US either. We did prepare to answer if asked at the interview why this was not checked (simply overlooked) but it was not asked specifically about that at the interview. We received our visa still in the 5 month time line.

    Good luck!
