  1. Hey All!

Its been a while for me as i was working and it took all my time. But i have since left as it was not a good fit for me.

But a couple of days ago i got my letter that my green card is in the mail!!!! Yippeeeee!!!!!

On another note ....I miss brown gravy!!!! :crying: ......

    What do you miss?

  2. I am serious guys, if any of you need new knitted dishcloths, holler at me, and I will make them. Or, if you want to do them yourselves, I can mail you a copy of my pattern, just PM me!. I got it during my first knitting lesson, so once you master the knit stitch, increasing, decreasing and yarn over to make a hole, you're good to go -- I know that sounds overwhelming, but most of the people in the class had it figured out by the end of the two hours. :)

Marie, are you looking for info on getting your medical done in Montreal? I am a wee bit confused about what you are looking for :) My only concern is it took me a week to get my sealed envelope of results from the medical I had in Halifax -- the doctor had to wait for the reports from the blood work and such from the hospital before he could send them to me. So I am not sure what to tell you. :(

I love knitted dishcloths. I tried to get someone down here to make them for me and it was not very successful. I have 2 and i use them all the time. My friends down here think i am on crack

  3. Heh, that's why most of us Canucks stay out of the off topic forum. ;)

I totally agree. Ramos has had some nasty replys when he has been trying to help posters. This is deffinatly a much relaxed forum. I cringe when i have to post in the other forums, as i never know what i am going to get as a reply.

  4. Must be monday, another criminal check question, lol

I ordered a criminal background check from the Winnipeg police by mail. It didnt require fingerprints. Its states it was a canada wide check . Not sure if they wil mail it out of canada, but you could phone and ask. http://www.winnipeg.ca/police/BPR/info_req...m_record_search On the application I stated it was for USA immigration!!

I ended up not using the 1 from Winnipeg and went with 1 from the RCMP that I went in person to get, but I'm sure the Winnipeg city police would have sufficed.

If your in Canada, and never had a criminal record you DO NOT require fingerprinting, which is good becuase it can take awhile for the fingerprinting process.

Guess since your out of Canada it requires the fingerprinting( I could be wrong though), thus I would attempt to come back to Canada or contact the winnipeg police, or your local police force and see what they have to offer. Hopefully some one else will have better advice

I applied for my RCMP Criminal Check from HK and for me the fingerprinting was painless. You have to provide them with fingerprints. I just went to the local police office and had fingerprints done. The RCMP website will give you all the info you need. I just sent them(RCMP) a letter explaining why i wanted the Criminal check, a copy of the Packet 3 letter that they sent me, and the fingerprints that i had done in hk. The whole process was done in about 2 and a half months.

I don;t know the website off hand but the Canadian Conclet will give it to you and you can also find out where you can get your fingerprints done.

  6. I haven't been here cause it's been a very hectic few days :)

My last post stated that I had been waiting for my visa from Montreal which they had assured me would be mailed out by last Friday .. which didn't make it out until Tuesday .. and there my 9 year old son and I was sitting at an empty house with my life packed onto a UHaul 14' truck.

Wednesday .. nothing came so I faxed a Civil Surgeon in Cleveland our vaccination information and went and got my nails and feet done (that was a relaxing experience! ... my first pedicure and it was heavenly)

Thursday we sat and waited from 9 and at 11:15 the mailman delivered it. No signature required. My brother showed up at 12:30 and loaded my car on the car hauler. At 1:15pm we headed out on the road from Hamilton and arrived at the boarder at 2:30pm ... 4:30pm back on the road no problems at the boarder (very busy time to cross). The duty guard looked at my listing of what was in the truck but other than that they didn't even look inside of it and I had no problems with bringing my car with me (I had the compliance letter from Honda) .. no duty requested. Just $12 american dollars once they process the paperwork for the K1/K2. Got to Cleveland at 8:30 (met my fiance at his work) drove back to the house and unpacked the UHaul by 10:30. I was beat .. almost like someone had physically kicked me all over .. and so I took a couple of Advil and crashed.

Up the next morning at 8:30 ... organized everything I needed (my fiance picked up the paperwork from the civil surgeon and picked up the flowers for the wedding) and booked into the hotel by 2:00. I had made a last minute hair appointment for 2:15 around the corner from the hotel and had my hair and makeup done and back to the hotel by 3:30. Left to go to our wedding at a park worried the whole time that it was going to rain (funny as hell me driving a pick up truck in my wedding dress!!) and made it to the park by 4:45. The weather was perfect ... the wedding was beautiful .. pictures were taken .. and when all of that was done it started to rain. What perfect timing!!!

We went for a wonderful dinner at a fine dining restaurant with our children and then back to the hotel (the kids returned to our home with adult accompaniment) and we had a wonderful evening at the hotel with a good bottle of wine.

So here I sit .. filling out our paperwork to beat the deadline and all of a sudden there is some confusion .. but I will do my research here and I'm sure have some questions ...

Once this is done we will pack up and head out on the road ... destination .. Florida!!!

Thank you to all my VJ friends ... your help and support has been amazing!!!!!!!!!

Congrats sounds like you had a fab day!!!!

  7. Hhaha yes I have seen that! Sorry you guys are backlogged but know that while you are back logged, I'm sitting here in the US not being able to work or leave the country! haha. I think we are both in crappy situations! :(

What do I miss about Canada? Mostly my family and friends of course. I miss the geography of the place. When you are used to this spread out landscape and then move to New Jersey suburbs, it is like night and day. I'm a writer ..a CANADIAN writer (haha) and so this move in landscape has really affected my writing psyche as well. I had spent a christmas in new jersey in 2005. There was no snow on the ground. When I got back to Canada afterwards, driving home into my parents neighbourhood, it was night time and there were kids playing pond hockey by these big lights and it was snowing. That was the first time that it truly hit me; that I am part of something bigger than myself and that I am a part of a culture that is really special.

I miss the calm nature of Canadians. I miss our people's patience. People can be very rude here. There have been times that I have really wanted to get out of here and return home because no matter where you go, the attitudes that people have are different. I went to university in Ottawa, Ontario which was such a beautiful city. I walked every where and enjoyed all it had to offer. Now I'm stuck in a town where there is no where to walk! haha Also, it's new jersey so there are a lot of unsafe places where I live.

Of course I miss the stuff that every Canadian misses....Tim hortons, smarties, shreddies, kraft dinner...etc. haha

I never realised how much I would value someone saying "can i have a double double?" haha

Welcome to the Canada forum its a great one :P

I totally understand. I have been here just over a week and i do miss Canada. I have been in HK for a while and when i first moved there i didn't miss home and much as i do now. It was an adventure, and every day was a new day were i would discover or experience something different. Here is similar to Canada but the difference are huge. But the biggest key is not working. I have always worked since i could. I am a preschool teacher and in hk last year I was a supervisor/Coordinator. So I have gone from having pens and files in my purse to dog chews, plastic bags and shopping lists.....lol But i have to say that i do enjoy being back in a country that i can speak the language well and understand what everybody is saying.....lol

  8. Hi everyone!

This is our first post, though we've been lurking for awhile. Mike and I filed for a K1 and received our NOA1 on June 12. So, now we join the waiting list! Mike is in NJ and I'm in Toronto. Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories. All the info has been very helpful to us as we begin this journey.

    Mike and Karen

I am coming in a bit late but just wanted to say Hi and Welcome.

  9. The kettle is SOOO important!! haha I had to take one with me from Canada and a tea pot as well. No one I know here in new jersey does a kettle or a tea pot. In fact, I have a hard time even finding tea bags that aren't single servings!! Some one once tried to serve me lipton tea and it was almost a cause for spitting out!

lol.......I hear you! I even brought the tea bags. I do like starbucks but nothing beats a good cup of tea!

  10. I just looked at an application for a marriage license and noticed that on the bottom it says each applicant must provide their Social Security Number.

Since I'm a Canadian resident obviously I don't have a SSN yet and won't until later on... So what happens with this part of the application for a license then?

I didn;t have one iether they just looked at my passport and the SSN wasn;t even an issue in TX. Check online thats what we did. It might save you a step.

    Good luck

  11. Thank you so much.

I should not say to Immigration officer " I will go to see my fiance to prepare for K1 visa" ?

I should say just sightseeing ??

I would not say anything unless they ask! Don't offer any extra info, just tell them what they want to know and thats it. I went to the US 4 times while i was waiting for the visa. I never had any questions or trouble.

  12. We filed yesterday. We have been only married a week and it was a mad rush to get everything together. The only thing that we were not able to give was the injection record. I couldn't get them back in time. I thought i had everything done, before i left HK but I didn't have any copies of the blood work so i had to have them redone. Its been wirral wind and time is flying by. I applied for my Social Security card and its on its way as well this week.

Anyone elise trying to file before the end of July?

  13. WOW i don't know where the time has gone. Ramos has been after me to make a post about us crossing and i haven't had more than 2 minutes to spare.

But the prossess went ok but for you crossing in Detroit, do not go at 4pm. Its their shift change and we had 4 officers come up to us to help us and when they found out that we had a K1 Visa to process they said " Na I ain't doing that i am going home in a few minutes and the visa takes a abit of time to process." The officer we did get was the least scary of the rest. He didn't quite know what to do, so it took him a bit of time. I had my list of what was in my boxes that were in the truck and the list of things that were in the 5 boxes that i mailed from HK. They didn't even want to see it. Thank goodness. That was on the 15th of July. we were married on the 23 of July and adoped a dog on the 24th ......lol. Today I went to apply for a Social Security # and it was pretty painless. They suggested that I wait to get my drivers licence untill i get my card in the the mail. They said 7 to 14 days. Pretty smooth so far. We are currently working on getting the adjustment of Status, Advance Prole ( It makes me laugh that they call it that.) and the other one that i always forget......lol I think thats it for now. Everyone enjoy your day. I need a cup of tea after that.

    Have fun all

  14. Hey,

I'm supposed to attend my fiancee's brother's wedding in May. Am I going to be allowed across the border while my K-1 is in process?

I've only received the NAO1 yesterday.. and the wedding is in 2 weeks!

Am I going to be permitted across the border?!

    Liz

it should not be a problem as i went to the states twice while we were in progress of our K1. Nothing is in the computer and if you don't say anything they won't ask.

  16. I was wondering if I have to waite for them to write me or i can do the medicals in advance thanks

You need wait as they will send you a special form to take to the doctors with you. You will also have to go to a doctors of their choice and their is a set fee that you have to pay.

  17. I am not a born canadian, but I feel I should have...

I am a canadian by choice and I am a canadian at heart... and will always be.

I did not want to leave Canada... still I don[t - somehow I feel that somehow the faith is postponing the interview just 'cause I feel like that-

    My heart is bleeding that he doesn;t want to move here;

Did yall think that ... we might loose this 'canadian spirit' ... among thegreat united states...

I sometimes fear that... and wonder if my childten will choose canada to be in///

    A.

I have lived outside of Canada for just over 10 years and I love my country just as much now as i ever did. I don't ever think we loose that, but being away from home just make me love it that much more. I am very proud to be Canadian and always will be, no matter where I live
