  1. as to the people that say "there is no fee".  We went to our local service center for USCIS in Tukwilla (near Seattle) they told us the fee was $500.  Not some strange person.  The actual people at USCIS.

She has decided to wait.. she has good days and bad days but no one feels great when their father is sick and they cannot go to visit.  Thank you all for your support.  Both of us really appreciate it.  Depending on my work load I may go with her.  She's the best thing ever.

  2. We followed the directions on the USCIS website for emergency AP.  Went to our local service center and they approved emergency AP based on medical documents from her Fathers doctor.  However they wanted an extra $500.  The plan was to send her there to look after him then buy her a ticket back in one month (middle of the month checks have extra.  However.. the extra $500 was the money she needed to live on in that time.  Not really any extra.  I was going to use my credit card to pay for the ticket.  That even isn't the problem, the real issue is that the emergency AP is only good for 30 days and that pushes us in a way that makes things to tight to make it happen.

Some support in the way of anyone getting their AP recently would be appreciated.  I think that is the thing she needs to hold on.  It's hard to know your father is potentially terminally sick and sit waiting every day to see if you can leave.

  3. My wife is sick of being stuck here.  Her father is sick and she has things she really needs/wants to do outside the country.  We were told that we could get an emergency AP but that it would be seperate from the normal AP, only allow for 4 weeks away and cost an extra $500.   With travel expenses and other expenses we've had an extra $500 is tough right now.  She is now at the point she just wants to leave without AP.  She is asking me what will happen to her if she leaves and there are questions I don't know.

I know I can reapply for a cr1 or whatever but I don't know if her dropping her application will hurt her chances at getting it?

I also don't know about that fact that we were a month late filing the i485 (small visa overstay) and if that will affect her ability to reenter even if she got a green card overseas?

And really because no one seems to know how long AP takes I'm wondering if anyone can respond to this message that has gotten theirs recently and let us know how long it took to get it.  We are at day 92 now and waiting.

There is plenty of love here.  There are not problems between us it's just not being able to leave and return that is killing her.

  4. My fiance is a Romanian living as a permanent resident in Japan. For the interview they asked her to bring additional information. I'm just trying to make sure that we get this right.

A passport from before Dec 2004 or statement of unavailability for missing passport. She doesn't have any passports from that long ago. What do we need to get?

Month and year list of activities for you between 1986 and 1993, and between 1997 and 2004. Do they just want her to list where she lived and worked, went to school?

  5. NOA1 4/4 and still nothing. Always disappointing to wake up and see no changes.

so sorry about that. it's the fear that we all had coming into this. Waiting and watching other people get theirs and not seeing ours. you just have to have faith. Knowing that the person you've found is the person you believe in makes it worth the wait. Just know that in the end it will all work out.

  6. Does anyone know how long the medical exam is good for? I've heard it expires after 6 months?

Wondering if I can get the medical done about a month before the interview without any issues.

My understanding is that the consulate will tell you what doctor to go to. You never actually see the results it goes strait to them. Of course I'm thinking whatever horrible disease she has I've already brought back so it seems like a waste of time to me. They should have checked me at the airport if they were worried about that. oh.. but that's right you are engaged to a canadian.. ya.. you never know what kind of zombie virus those guys have :)

  7. Don't call that early. I have yet to see anyone get their case # that quickly. Plan on 2.5 to 3 weeks. Call the 0888 number and just press 1

When you get case # go to BPI and pay. Wait 4 hours and schedule interview for at least 3 weeks out from when you received case from NVC. Schedule medical and fill out DS-160. All you need for medical is the Appointment Confirmation letter for the interview.

Eventually you will get the NVC Case Letter in the mail to the petitioner and you can scan that and send that to the beneficiary. That will be needed for interview.

You get the medical results handed to you in a sealed envelope when you are done and you bring that to the interview as well as the other stuff, CENOMAR, NBI Clearance, Birth Certificate, Passport etc etc

Start watching your case status here about a day after receiving case #

    https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx

It will go to In Transit to Ready and will state your case is ready for interview...blah blah blah

That should happen within 3-5 days.

Since they give you the results at the end of the medical, you can do that any time.

Interview is really easy as long as you are confident and can prove you are genuinely in love and passionate about this.

The Philippines process is really in your control once you have the case #. It's nice!

    Gary

Oh no. What is BPI?.. what do I have to pay?.. I thought we get the letter, then our info goes to NVC then we get a letter from them, then the consulate. This sounds completely different than what I've understood about what I've read. I understand I have to pay for the doctor visit and the interview.. but what is BPI?

  8. I haven't started the process but will soon, and I need a couple of questions answered if at all possible.

    Background:

She (Romanian) was married to a Japanese man and separated some years ago. She is still living in Japan and has just convinced him to sign the divorce papers (He's very influential and does not want the divorce for reputation reasons). (but he was philanderer and she has plenty of proof so he was forced to sign or have it be public in court)

    So here are my questions:

If she has divorce papers in Japan where the marriage took place will she still need to make sure that the marriage is not registered in Romania before I submit for the visa?

I understand that she will need to in Romania for the interview and we are preparing for that but because she does not have a job in Romania we are hoping to wait until just before she has an interview. Will that be an issue?
