They went to the corporation of the city they resided in, not in the city they got married.

Yes, it got approved last year in July. Took exactly 6 months

I got my parents birth affidavits made by two relatives who are older to them and basically just saying that Mr.xxx was born on xxx date and xx mother and xx father and I was present at that time as a witness of them being born and no birth certificate was issued at that time. So two affidavits for each of my parents. Also attached their matriculation or any other graduation certificate that I could get for them. For marriage certificate, my father went and got one made from the city corporation showing some proof of joint assets and another affidavit from witnesses.

An EAD only allows them to apply for an SSN and to work so they can contribute into those programs.

And my bad, I meant SSN so that they can apply for govt ID. I guess my concern is that when they will be traveling within US, at the airports, their Indian passport will show an expired visa, so do they need to carry their NOA with them, I suppose?

FYI: Having an approved EAD does not mean your parents can “apply for social”. They are not eligible to receive social security benefits by virtue of having an EAD card - they cannot benefit from something they’ve not contributed into.

And with social I meant applying for social security number so that they can apply for drivers license for ID purposes. 

I concurrently filed for my parents green card application (I130 and I485) in Dec and they have already received NOA, biometrics is done. we are just waiting on interview now if its required.

I also applied for I765 (employment authorization) and I131 (travel document) so that they can apply for social here or are able to travel out of US while the application is pending. But I haven;t received anything yet and their visitor visa valid for 6 months expires in May. 

Do I need to apply for their visa extension after May so that they can legally stay here in US till their green card is processed?

Sorry to piggyback on this topic but was a very similar question so did not start a new thread. Hoping to get some answers here.

I concurrently filed for both my parents in late December,2017 who are visiting me currently. They have 10 year multiple entry visitor visa which got stamped for 6 months of stay and expires in May. Now, as per the recent trends, it may take 6-7 months for their green cards to get approved which will be in June or July. So do I need to get their visitor visa extended ?

I am piggybacking on a similar topic. Filing I864 and I864A for both my parents. I864 by me and I864A by my husband as I am still in school and don't earn.

Question is that in one of the sections on I864 it asks how many immigrants are we sponsoring. Should I mention my dad on my mom's form and vice versa? Because then it says don;t mention any relative on a separate visa petition... 

Similarly in I864A it asks how many members are you sponsoring? Should I mention 2 for both my parents or just 1 for that form and make a copy of the form for both my parents?

You cannot use the Indian passport to enter India.  It is illegal according to the Indian government and will create issues for you if you are applying for an OCI card.

Hopefully your US passport is being expedited and processed.  I would suggest applying for an e-Visa (basically a visa on arrival at the Indian port of entry).

@skmv Thank you for the information! I am going to Atlanta this Friday to get my passport. Hopefully they give it to me same day. And then will apply for e-visa to India. It says on the website that you need to apply 4 days before your travel? Hopefully it works!

I have my oath ceremony tomorrow and I am traveling to India on Nov 1st. I was hopeful reading some of the posts here that I would have the option of expediting my passport application and it shouldn't be an issue as I still have about 10 days. So today thought of making an appointment at the passport agency right after the ceremony tomorrow as @Mehrdad576 had done.

And guess what! The nearest passport agency is 6hr away either in Atlanta or Miami. I am in Jacksonville,FL. Now I need to make a trip to either of those within these 10 days to get my US passport 

Anyways, I have a question. My Indian passport is still valid and will remain with me, correct? Can I travel to India using that? I mean I ll carry both passports but at the port of entry in India can show my Indian passport so that I don't have to apply for Indian Visa on my US passport? Is it valid? Any information in this regard will be helpful!

Hi everyone!

I had my interview today at Jacksonville center, FL. It was scheduled for 12pm but I reached there early. They didn't check me in till 11:45pm and asked me to wait. I got checked in around 11:55pm and was called by the officer within minutes. The officer first took me to the room and asked me to raise my right hand and repeat after her that whatever I will say is true. Then she went over lot of questions YES/NO format mostly from the application. Whether I have been arrested, committed any crime, arms training, if I m still married, do we have any kids, who is my employer etc. 

She then moved to civics questions. I got confused at one and she repeated the question and I corrected my answer. She counted 6/7 correct and she moved on to have me read out loud a sentence and then write a sentence. She did not check any of my documents and said that I have been approved. Offered me Oath ceremony in 2 days but unfortunately I am traveling so I opted to go to the next and she said may take a month or two.

The silliest thing - I was just nervous I guess and she asked me my DOB and after answering all other questions right, I gave my own DOB wrong! 

Overall a nice experience. Took hardly 10 mins. I was done by 12:15pm!

Hello kirat.  They do not take away any documents during the interview, you can travel afterwards like you normally would, with your green card and passport (If your travel dates fall between interview and Oath).  

 

If your travel is right after the Oath (where I believe they take away your green card and give you a naturalization certificate) you might want to expedite your US passport to have it in time for your trip. Maybe someone else can chime in with a better option!

I have a question about traveling out of US between interview and oath. My interview is scheduled for Sept 26th and I am bound to travel out of US in 1st week of Nov. Hopefully my oath takes place before the travel but if not, what all documents do we need while traveling?

I believe we need to give back our old passport and the new comes in after oath? Am I correct?

Cashd: Date your check was cashed / credit card was charged by USCIS.
NOA: Receipt Notice Date Printed on your official I-797 notification.
Fprints:  Date assigned for fingerprinting (Bio-metrics). If you do your biometrics via walk-in prior to your scheduled appointment, please enter the date in bold blue.
In Line: Date you received e-notification about the start of your interview scheduling.
Int Ltr: Date you received the official letter in the mail regarding interview.
Interview: Date of your interview.
Oath: Date Oath taken.

Field Office: Your local USCIS office where you will have the N-400 interview.
