You can apply right after but you cannot apply at the ceremony place (well not here in Texas). Usually you have to apply at a post office or city court house. Though passport are getting backed up now, you have to make an appointment which is at least couple weeks out. And if there is a walk-in place, it is usually around half a day waiting. We did the walk-in, got there an hour before they open, and it was still an hour wait after they opened.

I also suggest if you have time, go to social security office and driver license office to update your status to citizen.

That seem kind of long. We had our interview in June and within a week we got the oath letter. I would scheduled an infopass appointment. I been to an infopass appointment once and they were able to give us some credited information.

Harmonia you are right. I looked at her application, some of the words I don't know the meaning, like "paramilitary". I had to googled it.

I just checked the online account. And there it is, the oath letter! That was super fast. She is scheduled for next Thursday oath. So excited!

After couple months waiting on the 2nd interview. We finally got it. Interview was today and my gf passed! The IO was surprised she did not passed the first time. Her English was fine. Now just waiting on the oath letter. Will update the list after the oath.

Well 2nd time is the charm. My girlfriend passed her citizenship interview this morning on the 2nd try. It took two months to received the 2nd interview letter, then the appointment was two weeks after.

This time around it was a breeze, no civic question, just reading / writing, questions from the application and some personal questions. It was a different IO this time around. The IO was very surprised she failed the 1st time. My gf speak clearly and read perfectly. Held a little conversion with the IO just fine. This really lead me to believe the IO makes a huge difference, depend on what type person they are and what mood they are in. Now just waiting for the oath letter. Hopefully not long! 

Looks like no one had replied to you. Did you have the second interview yet? My gf is still waiting for the second interview letter because she failed the first one. It has been a month. I am hoping it won't take long as yours.

Good to know we were not the only one that didn't have a good experience at Dallas FO, unfortunately my gf did not pass. And it was also on a Thursday. The IO was a female, last name start with an "L" (I do not want to post the IO full name).

So we made an infopass appointment on the 14th. It's at the same location as the interview. Hoping we can speed things up by asking them about the 2nd interview and if they can scheduled us one on the spot. Worst case they will just tell us to wait couple months for the letter.

If I remember, your field office is San Antonio. Dallas is just the lock box you submit your application to.

We are unsure if the airports here will accept her expired passport.

My suggestion is to go over those questions with your wife.  Then he passed him. Thank you. I read your post. It put a little comfort in us for the 2nd interview. We will definitely go over everything on the application. How long did it take until you got the letter for another appt? 

We will wait for the 2nd interview. Some reports show it's 60-90 days. I have told her if the 2nd time you failed, especially if it's the same officer, as for a supervisor. My gf did mentioned when the officer can out to call her name, she greet the officer "good morning, how are you", officer had a neutral face and didn't acknowledge.

I thought so too. I don't understand either. Speaking and understanding it's something you do daily. You would think the IO asking the question is considered "understanding" and answering the questions is considered "speaking". But the IO marked her as failed speaking and understanding. Granted the IO was hispanic lady, my gf is asian.

Yeah. We need to apply for a travel document which is costly and you only get 2 years I think, compare to US Passport. Plus her country's passport expired, she probably can't even enter her own country.

Looking at their timeline; 1st interview was on the last week of November 2016; 2nd interview was on the first week of February 2017. 2.5 months later I guess.

 

Thanks. I just read through it. My guess was 3 months too. Since it took the 1.5 months from the letter until interview date, we will probably get a letter mid April or sooner hopefully. Glad that she does not have to repeat all the tests again. And definitely hope she don't meet the same IO, as like this person did. It's all about luck I guess.

Yes we was so excited since it took soo long for an interview. Now will take even longer. We are hoping the 2nd one will have a better outcome.

My girlfriend had her interview yesterday at the Dallas FO. Unfortunately she did not passed. She passed the civic questions, reading / writing part, but failed the English part which is speaking and understanding. I am not sure why the IO failed her. She speaks more than just the basic English. She says they asked mostly about personal stuff, such as was her parents married yet when she was born, what is her resident address, what part of Dallas is that, near what major highway, who own the house she's living in, what is her work address, what does her work do, what area is it at, do you pay taxes, is your car still being finance, etc etc etc. The IO just kept hammering her. She answer them the best she can. Some of the questions she told the IO she's not sure because she just moved to Dallas a year ago. And then there was a question she did not understand because of a term the IO used, she ask the IO to repeat the question, IO flat out say I cannot repeat it. So the IO marked her as failed. Handed a paper showing failed speaking and understanding, will get a 2nd chance.

This is so frustrating, we was very positive she will passed. Then she walked out with tears (I was in the waiting area), my heart just sunked. We had plans to go to Canada visit her uncle, go back to her country so I can meet her parents and family to introduced myself.

@HCM2NYC I updated your format. Your last copy / paste made the format out of alignmentt. It could be the browser you are using, had the same thing happened in Chrome, works best with Internet Explorer.

Have you logged into your "my account" on uscis website and see if there are any PDF letter? Being NBC, you are way passed the time frame. It's also strange your status does not say biometric appointment sent. In the my account page, it should show your biometric is completed by seeing a check mark next to the biometric date. Have you done a e-request yet?

Oh ok. You should be fine then. Once you passed the 5 year, the marriage part becomes irrelevant. Even divorce wouldn't matter in this case. They won't even bother with evidences.

Is the location accurate? I thought oath are done at the same location as the interview in Irving. If this is acurate, my gf Interview is March 23rd, if she passed, she may get same-day oath
