I'm a British national with an IR1 spouse visa and entered the US recently and have my social security card my Green card is on its way and should be with me in the next 6 months.
A Brazilian immigrant scared me today by saying I also need a 'work authorisation' as well as the social security number/card and that it takes months to get one, is this true? I just started working somewhere and they didn't ask for this. Any info would be much appreciated!!

Nick to the rescue again! I have had my interview already and I did call the courier last week which really helped. The embassy hadn't added the link I needed to activate the process, I should have the link in a day or two.
Thank you so much again!

I have to re-submit the i-864 because I didn't realise I needed to provide the original not a copy. I have the original now and the instructions state:
"sign in to your account at https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb click on the link 'print instructions' and then 'View Courier-in Receipt' at the bottom of the page and print the Courier-In Authorization Certificate."
The problem is that second courier link is not there?! And I can't for the life of me find any relevant contanct details to get this sorted, can anyone help? I'm doing DCF London Embassy IR1 Spouse VISA.
Cheers

Really?! Oh awesome! Problem solved if that's true, I really should get it back in time I think. I'm sure I read somewhere that the passport would be in the envelope and border officers would open it?

Then my next question is will I get my passport back separately once I receive my 'package' from the embassy containing my IR1 visa or is my passport sealed inside the package where I can't get at it until I am in the USA?
-
I've just completed my IR1 interview at the London US embassy and am awaiting 'The package'. I stupidly forgot that they take your passport and had booked a trip to Germany from London scheduled before I go to the USA. Is there anyway I can travel without my passport which is now with the embassy? Any help would be much appreciated.

Is there anything I can do to speed things up in my job hunt for Chicago before I arrive, I've asked for my interview date but not heard back yet. Would getting in touch with recruiters be a waste of time? I'd there anything I can apply for itin number? That will help me set up a job before I get there?
Any tips would be much appreciated!

Hi All,
Are the fees for the interview day in the London Embassy $325 only? found this: https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visa-fees/ which seems to suggest so, I'm probably being paranoid but I have a vague memory of other charges, my medical is already done.

It's the previous 3 years so 2015, 2014, 2013. I think we will be able to just file the 2555EZ as we only have income to exclude and are filing 'married filing seperately' thanks for the tip on needing different versions for different years, I'll make sure I find them or using the IRS forms/guidance for those years.

Would Turbotax be a good option for a USC living abroad filing as 'Married filing separately'?
We need to complete my USC wife's last three years taxes (which haven't been filed yet) asap so that we can submit the i-864 affadavit of support and then the readiness for interview at the London embassy.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Would people recommend turbotax for USC citizen living abroad filing previous years late? Any info would be appreciated.

Any advice on which software/resources are best for US expats filing previous and current years of taxes?? MY USC wife and I have never done this before and need to complete them ASAP so I can book my interview.
My USC wife hasn't filed for a number of years and we need to do her back taxes for the previous 3 years as stated here in the i-864 instructions:
"If you were required to file a Federal income tax return during any of the previous three tax years but did not do so, you must file all late returns with the IRS and attach an IRS-generated tax return transcript documenting your late filing before submitting Form I-864."
Any info would be massively appreciated!
Cheers!

Read the instructions for the I-864 if you don't believe her.
Hey Nick, Sorry I didn't explain our situation fully, My wife has been living with me in the UK and did not realise she needed to be filing taxes every year so I believe we must follow this part of the i-864 instructions now: "If you were required to file a Federal income tax return during any of the previous three tax years but did not do so, you must file all late returns with the IRS and attach an IRS-generated tax return transcript documenting your late filing before submitting Form I-864."
We will be filing them shortly ourselves but have never done them, it seems that filing 'married filing seperately' will be the quickest option as I don't have an SSN and can put NRA in that section as some other posts have advised, any info on which software or resources to use would be much appreciated.

What are peoples experience with this? The London Embassy website says it's ok but to take proof of a permanent residence, lease ect. with you to the airport. I have packet 3 and have had my medical but we are waiting for my spouses back taxes to be completed. I have a job with a UK company that requires me to fly to the US for a week, any idea of things to be aware of or if this will be a problem or not?
Cheers!

My USC wife seems to think having read through that she only needs to provide one year of previous taxes, what have other people experienced and provided for their application? We have her sister acting as a joint sponsor who has provided us with 3 years back taxes as my wife will be returning home ahead of me so will be between jobs when we file. Any info would be much appreciated!

My partner still needs to finish her back taxes for the I-864 affidavit of support, she'll need to talk to the H&R block rep which will happen a week from now and the process can take 2-8 weeks to get the tax returns back. Luckily my spouses history is very straight forward and shouldn't take long but we have to wait untill we have that before sending the readiness for interview form, right?
It just sucks as she will be leaving on February 14th and the taxes are now the only thing holding us back from asking for an interview. We could do the research and file ourselves but neither of us have ever filed us taxes and are worried that we'll make a mistake and waste more time than just waiting for H&R Block to do it for us.
Any advice or information would be much appreciated!

Thanks Nick!,
I have indeed got all documents and updated vaccination record so I'm set to go. Actually now that you mention it my partner still needs to finish her back taxes for the I-864 affidavit of support, she'll need to talk to the H&R block rep which will happen a week from now and the process can take 2-8 weeks to get the tax returns back. Luckily my spouses history is very straight forward and shouldn't take long but maybe i'll wait untill we have that before sending the readiness for interview form.
It just sucks as she will be leaving on February 14th and the taxes are now the only thing holding us back from asking for an interview. Maybe i'll ask around for a quicker way to file back taxes, we could do the research and file ourselves but neither of us have ever filed us taxes and are worried that we'll make a mistake and waste more time than just waiting for H&R Block to do it for us.
Thanks again Nick!

DCF London: How long after the medical should I wait before filing the ' Notification of Applicant Readiness online form'
Do I need to wait to hear back from the embassy confirming they've recieved my medical before I fill out the online form?
Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks Nick, I really appreciate the information!
I'm thinking if returning to the united states without a return ticket is enough to satisfy domicile though, I've read those documents and they dont address this edge case, she has lived away from the usa for at least 7 years now so I assume mearly entering the country without a return ticket is not enough to be considered 'domiciled' in the usa.
Again, thank you for your helpful comments i really do appreciate them!

I am the UK husband of my USC wife. We are living in London and filing for IR1. We have my LND number and police certificate I am going to book my medical tomorrow for as soon as possible.
We are filling out the I-864 and my spouse has a ticket to return to the USA on February 14th to look for jobs. Is it likely that I would be able to get an interview before February 14th? If not then should we list her domicile as USA on the I-864?
It also asks for her current annual income on the form but by then she might have finished that employment (12th Feb is her last day of work) should we include her current job's income in this section? We are filling another I-864 joint sponsor of her sister to account for the fact that she might be unemployed at the time of the interview. Any information would be much appreciated!
Cheers all!
Josh

Thank you all for the reassurance! I think I still have to pay $160 which I haven't done yet because I paid $320 at the London embassy as I was applying DCF which I thought covered everything? Was I wrong?
