  1. ernie,

My wife just got her CR-1 visa from Montreal. Our case was completed on December 6th 2006 at the NVC and her interview was on March 7th. So it took 3 months for the interview. I would think that you are probably looking at a 3 month wait for the interview. For some reason Montreal Interviews take forever. About your wife quitting her job, my wife did not have a job at the time of the interview, I do not think they care. They are more interested in the US citizens job. So it would be up to her, knowing it could be a few months until the interview

    All the best

  2. Hi everyone,

My wife just told me that her visa was approved after her interview in Montreal!! Still won't believe it until visa is in hand but it looks like the end is in sight.

This site has been wonderful to turn to for help and advice.

Good luck to all of you going for visas and I will be happy to answer any q's you have especially about applying through Montreal

    Thanks

  3. amarceau, I am pretty confident you have an interview.

My wife is from Canada and I have been phoning the NVC for months since they completed the application on December 6th. Then last Thursday after expecting the normal response of "your interview has not been scheduled" she said "yes, it is for March 7th". I could have jumped down the phone and kissed her. Anyway my point is the automated response I get at the NVC has changed from telling me the case is complete to that they have forwarded it to Montreal, therefore I believe you have an interview!! Congrats

    All the best

  4. Congratulations on getting your case complete. My wife is also applying from Canada. Our petition was approved on December 6th 2006 and we are waiting for the interview date. I have spoken to the NVC and they themselves schedule interviews for the Montreal embassy. The 'application' only goes when the interview is scheduled. The way they schedule is: in the 2nd week of every month they arrange interviews for the following month. We are keeping our fingers crossed my wife will get an interview next month but more likely will be the month after (ie interview in March) As to how they arrange who actually gets an interview first I have no idea!!

    Hope this helps

    Good Luck

  5. If you were in the US when you filed the I-130 did you also file for a I-485 AOS at the same time?

On my wife's I-130 form I said she would be in the US to get her CR-1 visa because we were also applying for a K-3 visa. Luckily, because the K-3 is ridiculously slow, the service center and NVC ignored this and Montreal was always designated as the consulate. I discovered this by phoning the NVC about 2 weeks after the I-130 was approved by the service center. So I would phone the NVC and see if they received it. Also on our I-797 approval it stated the case had been sent to the NVC.

However on all the forms we did put my wife's Canadian address as the permanent one because this is where her residence is. I never had to file an I-824 but I have seen these forms appear a lot more on this forum than when I applied so I am not too sure how much my case relates to yours but I thought I would let you know.

  6. Hi,

Thought I would give you my 2 cents. My wife is Canadian and we filed for I-130 back in April and filed for the I-129F immediately after (about mid-May). The k-3 is meant to be quicker than the CR-1 but in my experience the difference is minimal.

We did have an interview for the K-3 on December 28th but we cancelled it as her CR-1 application was completed at the NVC on December 6th. (Various reasons for cancelling; my wife is currently visiting me in the US so we are togther, the NVC has all our original documents we need for the K-3 interview, and lastly we hope that the CR-1 interview will be around February and with that we do not need to worry about EAD, AOS etc)

Looking at your timeline and comparing it to ours there is no chance your K-3 application would get ahead of your CR-1 as it has already been approved at the service center. My opinion (and that is all it is) is that it would be a waste of money and of your time.

About the consulate it will go to:

All CR-1 applications in Canada go through Montreal

K-3 visas go through Montreal or Vancouver (Vancouver is if you live ther or get your case transferred there)

I hope this helps you in your decision

All the best and good luck with the process

  7. I was wondering if anyone can help me with Q 11 on the I-134 who has interviewed at Montreal.

What do people think I should put down:

    N/A (Filing for k3 visa)

or, That I do intend to and list various ways I will support my wife

    Thanks for your help

  8. First of all congratulations to all the approved K-3 visas, it is so good to hear things are moving. I also know not everyone has had good news yet and I really hope you do soon.

I have been very lucky and my K-3 application was approved and the Montreal embassy has already sent Package 3 to my wife. Now I have a few q's about the affidavit of support I-134:

    1) In Q-10 it asks if I have submitted visa petitions to the Bureau of CIS/USCIS. Do I put down both the 130 and 129F application?

    2) In Q-11 about intention. Is the K-3 application also marked N/A here like it is for a K-1 visa?

    3) I was working in the UK for the last 2 yrs and have no current tax returns. I have only just filed for these now that I am in the states and found out I was required to. I am currently working above the poverty guidelines. Is a letter from your employer enough for the k-3 visa? ( i have savings and stocks also)

I look forward to hearing your replies and good luck to all

  9. Hey everyone, need some help.

I applied for I-130 at the end of April. I had read that as we are applying for a k-3 visa we should put down the city where I live in the US as where my wife will apply for AOS. (because she will be here legitimately on the k-3 visa) Now I am worried the k-3 visa is going to to tak longer than the I-130 and she will not be in the US. How can you tell the USCIS about this and change it to her local embassy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks and good luck to you all

    Paul
