  1. I am sorry to hear that. I as well live abroad with my husband and our kids. But we got approved on October 3rd.

-We had a joint sponsor that lives in the US

    -US bank account

    -emails with daycare and school

-letter from our friends that we can stay with them till we get our own place

-Tickets that I visited the State in June

    -Filed taxes

    -Copy of SSN

They accepted all that. Did not have a valid DL since I have been living in Bosnia for the last 8 years. Good luck.

  2. We have been out of LAX and SFO several times. I think DWheels' hubby came through Houston. While LAX might be the heaviest travelled, I think they have probably seen more immigrant traffic.

Be sure to read the reviews of the POEs, and I'm sure people here will chime in!

    Sukie in NY

Where can I find the reviews of the POE's, we are likely to enter at Dulles IAD airport end of this month.

  3. This isn't quite right--technically if you don't get health insurance, you have to pay a fee. It isn't really mandatory. However, as it sounds like the OP already knows, it's a big mistake to go without it (for any of you, including your husband--I'm not sure what you mean when you say he doesn't need it because he has a joint sponsor). You can buy it month by month until you get a job, if that will be soon; it will be expensive, unfortunately.

The program your family might qualify for is medicAID, not medicARE--based on income. Medicare is for elderly and disabled people. What insurance is available to you, and how much it costs, varies by state. Good luck!

Thank you so much. When I moved to the US in 2000 as an immigrant we got madical insurance through the state H&W. But till my parents got jobs with benefits. I thought becuase my husband has a joint sponsor he does not qualify cuz the sponsor is liable for his expenses since I live abroad and we used her income. We will need any kind insurance if I do not get a job right before we move. It is very difficult since we have to get lots of stuff done when we get there since we both are here abroad.

  4. Are your girls us citizen or green card holder? There are health care laws. Everyone living legally has to get health insurance. They may be able to get some under medicare.

My girls and I are USC and we have been abroad with my husband, they are born abroad but have USC. His interview in October 3rd but if I do not get a job offer by then or little later I was thinking to move anyway. And then get at least the girls on some kind of insurance till I find a job with benefits.
