  1. Hey sorry it's taken me forever to respond. Getting back this week plus jumping immediately into work threw me for a loop.

As far as how long I would stay, I'm not sure. Indefinitely. The whole time we were engaged, we always thought that if we had our way, we'd get married here in the US, have our kids, then by the time we were finished and they were around school age, we'd move back to Ghana more permanently. While we definitely want to have our children in the US, we don't necessarily want to raise them here. Even though now the order has kind of changed, the ultimate plan hasn't really, assuming he gets his CR1.

I think the COL is definitely higher in the US. I feel like I have a ton of bills here that I wouldn't necessarily have back in Ghana. My car, my insurance, my apartment rent....all incredibly high. Then again, I guess it depends on where you live in the US. I'm in Atlanta, so being in the city definitely has its drawbacks as far as that's concerned.

  2. OGForever, thank you! I definitely wasn't even thinking about the fact that I probably wouldn't be making enough in Ghana to prove financial support. You're absolutely right. But at the same time, I know my family would be willing to do the affidavit of support for the CR1 so I guess that will be okay.

I think the thing I'm worried about most is finding work here. I have a BS degree and a lot of experience in social services and things, and my fiancé is convinced that I'll find something, but I'm just not so sure.

  3. Sweetangel1, I sent you a PM.

Jennifer, I'm totally with you. The thing is, neither one of us have wanted to stay in the US permanently....we always wanted to go to the US, have kids, then come back to Ghana and let them come to international school and be raised here. But since his K1 was denied, I think we're both just scared that the same thing is going to happen when I file again. So when you decided to move though, did you plan to work?

  4. Less than a year ago, I filed a K1 visa application for my fiancé here in Ghana. Fast forward to June, after a second interview, he was denied. Up to today, we haven't gotten any NOIR or NOID so I don't know why exactly they denied....we just know they did.

So I'm currently in Ghana for what seems like the shortest trip ever, but we decided to go ahead and get married at the court so that we're not just waiting around for papers that probably won't help us in the long run. Yay, we're married!!! But.....I'm leaving. And I don't want to. So much so, that I'm thinking of coming back and staying in Ghana semi-permanently in January when my lease in the US is up. Then when he gets his visa, we'd both go back to the US together, if that's what we decide.

Has any USC here ever done that, or ever considered being the one to move? I literally would have no idea of where to start, and would love some advice because it seems that while my heart is saying this is a genius idea, my head is telling me that I've had much better. I think the biggest factor I'm worried about is financially related.

  5. We were denied also, his interview was this morning. I don't know all the details yet because I'm at work so we've just been texting, but I'll fill everyone in when I figure my life out. The way I see it, I can either A) call a congressman and try to get it pulled out again, B) go get married and file a CR1, or C) wait and file again. Is this right?

  6. Ohhhhh okay haha I see what you're saying now. I mean if you're there and you think it will help, go ahead. Like I said, adding things shouldn't hurt but I'd just be careful about taking things out. Maybe just attach the new things to the old. As for the affidavit of support with your savings and stuff on there, maybe do the same and just attach a new one but keep the old? The amount in my savings changes every 2 weeks when I get paid, but I never thought to update that too. Maybe I should though...ugh this is so frustrating!

  7. Yeah, this is the first time me hearing of things being stamped or notorized. I never even really thought to do that. I'm also kinda thinking that different dates would look off. We're keeping our packet the same, maybe just adding in some chats and adding some updated paycheck stubs. We're not sure of how much our stuff was looked at to begin with and what they could have made copies of so we're planning to add rather than take anything out or change it.

  8. Hey everyone! I know there's a lot of people waiting for letters from the embassy, so I figured I'd add my two cents in as for what worked for me.

We were waiting for over 3 months for a call-in letter that never came. I was emailing like crazy and literally never got a response. My fiancé was going to the embassy and not being let in, until we printed off screenshots of our case updates from the CEAC website. He took two of them each with two different update dates on them, and they let him in to get an appointment. This has also worked for another friend on here, so maybe t will work for you too. Good luck!

  9. I wish I knew. I'm in the same boat, except I got my NVC letter saying it had been transferred on December 15th. Haven't heard anything since, despite the fact that I've emailed them everyday for weeks. In total, I've probably sent over 50 emails not including what my fiancé has sent, or times he's called, or times he's been to the embassy without any response at all. It's a complete mess. I'd settle for just an email back at this point. It's so frustrating. To top it off, I recently moved states and jobs and needed to let the embassy know, but they aren't replying to emails which to me means they don't know...so now I'm afraid of my fiancé ever does get an interview, it's going to be fishy when my stuff says one thing but their records say another.

I've been talking to another girl on here who sent her I-129F after me and just got an appointment for her fiancé about a week or so ago. The major differences in her case are that A) she front loaded and B) she wasn't transferred and C) she filed from NY I believe whereas I was filing in TX but got transferred to CA. Maybe these things have something to do with it? But I hardly think so, because it seems as though these things would have been an issue BEFORE they reached the embassy level. But who knows.

The customer service there is terrible. It leaves a lot to be desired.
