  1. It's been a while since I've visited VJ. Hope all is well. Wendy and I are doing well. She's still studying english and learning how to drive.

lucho, we checked in at the same time. it's been almost a year since i posted last and i'm glad that things are well with you and wendy. i see diana is still around, i'm glad someone is still providing help to those going through this, unfortunalty i haven't had the time to keep up. my wife is great, learning english is very pregnant. we're due soon so have us in your prayers.

to all of those that are going through this, good luck and i wish you all the best. there is a friend at work going through this process and i came back to refresh my memory on my timeline, he's asking how it went for me.

    take care all

  3. the only novela we are watching is hasta la plata nos separe. we got our ss card a few weeks ago and the first thing we both did was memorize it, all is going well. my wife loves hgtv, we've been buying things for the house, it certainly needed the feminine touch. it's starting to get cold in the north east so i've bought winter clothing for my baby. lots of sales every week.

  4. after 2 months here my wife has not gotten her SS card. she got her residency card but no SS card even though we checked yes on the DS230 to receive one. we went to our local office and they told us that a request was not made. we filled out the forms and hopefully should get the card in a couple of weeks. other than that things are good. i've been able to find lots of the things my wife likes like postbon manzana, alpina's leche de avena, all of the juices like maracuya, lulo, mango etc. she's beginning to get used to the food here. overall things are good, her english is great and getting better everyday!

  6. thanks guys. lucho, jazmin is quickly adjusting but the first day upon arrival was not easy. i could tell that she was not herself, looking at everything and comparing, thinking about home. well, as soon as we got home we called barranquilla and let everyone know that we had arrived alright. after resting a bit i put on some salsa and we watched her favorite tv programs and her spirits lifted but what really got her happy was when we connected on the internet by way of camera and microphone with the family back home. i'm so glad for this medium, i can see that it will make the distance a lot shorter. this morning was much much better. we went out, had lunch, bought some things like hangers and everyday items and she was much happier. we are still unpacking so that is going to occupy us for a while, organizing, figuring out how we are going to decorate out place. one thing that i told her was that with time she will make this new place hers and ours and things won't seem so different. on a side note, when we were out a few funny things happened. we went to walmart to buy hangers and there was a guy pushing his cart and he began checking my wife out and then he crashed into another cart. we were laughing so much. then the guy on the way out who checks the receipts asked me how i was doing, i said great and he looked at my wife and then said "i can see". then outside we were like tourists taking pictures and guys kept checking her out. this lifted her spirits and i was by her side with a huge smile. : )

diana, i think that the change won't be as big for your husband as for the women who travel. i could be wrong but the women seem to be more attached to the family but you have to do as much to make the transition as soft as possible. i'm taking 3 weeks to be with jazmin before going to work so we'll see how things go. guys, my wife's cousin found a program that enables them to call from their computer to a house phone without cost. they called last night, although the connection wasn't perfect. anyway, is this the same as skype? well, if you want to check it out its at icall.com

    take care

  7. hey kids, we just arrived in the US. in barranquilla my wife was asked for her passport(visa inside) and the brown envelope. they didn't open it but wanted to check the info on the printed sheet on the outside. our poe was jfk, the red eye from barranquilla to nyc. flight was ok, crew was nice as always and we arrived on time...5:30am. we filled out one customs form for the 2 of us, the blue one. before going through immigration, i asked the officer there that was guiding people which one we should goto and we were told the visitors line. we waited about 5 mins, the officer was pleasant. he didn't ask my wife any questions but did ask me the usual, what i did for a living, where, when did i travel, etc. we were told about the 2 year conditional removal thing, we then went to another room on the side for fingerprinting, all of 15 minutes and we were done, nothing exciting thank God. we got our luggage, came home and slept. things are great.

    good luck all

  8. the certificado judicial is good for a year. the certificado migratorio i'm not sure about because it was given in a sealed envelope and i don't remember seeing any expiration date on the outside. if you are in bogota you can get the migratorio in 2-3days, the judicial is given the same day.

  9. yes that was my concern also that i wouldn't get it before the medical. in fact, when my wife went to her medical the doctor asked her how she got it so quickly. he knew of the changes and that there was less time to get things.

so yes, the barcode is the same as always and the agents name and address is the choice of agent, which is you. don't forget to change the date the letter was written. in my case it was the date that the letter was mailed to me which was 2 days after i found out the interview date. i remember the nvc telling me that these letters are usually mailed out on thur and fri, they can tell you the date it was mailed to you.

    JK

  10. diana, about the appt letter. make a copy of it just in case, especially if you plan on sending the original overnight by fedex to your husband. i reposted a copy of it in "my photos" so that if you need to you can generate yours using word as soon as you get your appt date. it's a regular document, nothing fancy so all you have to do is personalize it and email it to your husband. once he gets it he can print it out and it'll look just like the original. this is an option if sending it by fedex is too expensive or you don't want to risk faxing him a copy and then have the lab or doctors say that they need the original. the seal is also there with the letter so you can resize it and add it on top.

    JK

  11. look, sometimes its just not possible to do what you would like. this process is expensive not everyone can afford to be jet setting it all the time. diana is completely correct in that the danger is exaggerated. of course accidents happen, but people talk like it happens all the time on every bus trip... they don't. accidents happen everywhere, crossing the street, flying by plane, travelling by car so just relax, don't feel guilty because they went by bus. traveling by bus is a very common and safe way to travel para los colombianos, asi que no se preocupe.

    JK

  12. diana, unfortunately it seems you are the only one carrying the torch now but you still have lots here who are rooting you guys on. some of the couples approved before us don't post here as much but i know that they all wish everyone here the best.

the answer to both questions is yes, the nvc told me. i remember that i was calling every day and finally one early evening i called and the rep told me that we had been given the interview date. he told me when it was and was also kind enough to take the time to suggest and explain that i fax the interview letter to my wife since i would surely get it before she did(she still hasn't gotten it here in barranquilla). as i'm sure you already know, your husband will need the letter to show at the lab and doctors office. same for the packet 4, i called the nvc and a live rep told me that it was mailed to me and to bogota at the same time.

you're almost there. i know that there are more people in the K visa thread but try and keep this thread alive. take care

  13. lucho, one great thing about having your wedding in colombia is that you can have the wedding of your dreams for a tiny fraction of what is costs here. ours was a black tie affair at the prado with the ceremony at the inmaculada and it cost 1/10 of what it would have here..so enjoy it when the time comes.

    JK

  14. great news andrea!! you got through the difficult part, now lets hope things go well for you to receive the visa. this delay, although difficult and dissappointing, happened for a reason. Dios sabe como hace sus cosas, asi que felicidades, suerte con todo y que Dios los Bendiga.

  15. buck, all i can tell you is what helped us, if this can help you then great.

first, if you are a religious person put your trust in God. we did and everything has come out perfectly. also, if you know in your heart that you aren´t doing anything wrong, then there is nothing to worry about. if you feel you need to explain something, some special circumstance that you are concerned about, the CO will ask you about it and you´ll have an opportunity to explain. during our interview we weren´t asked for any kind of evidence but i was asked about a descrepency in my taxes. it took me by surprise since i was expecting other types of questions and it took me a few seconds to figure out the answer but when i gave the CO a reason, she was satisfied and that was the end of that. as i wrote in my report, i did see one male CO grill a guy that had an age difference like yours, but they had an answer for all of the questions, didn´t stumble and were granted the visa. practice ahead of time and you´ll be fine.

    good luck

  17. byron, read the signatures of the people that have gone through this and you´ll see that most, if not all have had to wait a long time. whether its for a CR1 or K visa we´ve all had to endure the slow paced system along with dealing with procedural changes along the way, just relax. use this time to ready everything, get things filled out ahead of time, read james shortcuts, plan ahead so when the time comes to move onto the next step you´ll be ready. good luck

    JK

  18. george, its great that mistake didn´t set you back and you were able to make your trip. did leidy say if others did or didnt get their visas?

lucho, i´m still in barranquilla. we just spent a few days at the hotel el prado for our anniversary. it was part of the wedding package, a weekend for the 1 yr. anniversary. we won´t be flying to the states until aug so in the meantime we´re visiting family and saying goodbye.

hang in there diana, your time will come soon and you´ll be extremely prepared.

    later guys

    JK
