  1. If you check out the tourist visa forum, you'll see that the big overarching message is that those interviewing for tourist visas don't need to show they have a reason to go to the US, they need to show they have ties to their home country and a reason to return. Lots of people who come on K-1 visas have quickie legal marriages and bigger receptions later, with family attending, so I don't think anything about your situation will arouse suspicion or really any questions. (And once you apply for AOS, you enter a new period of authorized stay, so the expiration date of your K1 entry will be irrelevant at that point).

What your relatives need to be able to do is show strong ties to Nigeria. Good, stable employment, property ownership, family and community ties etc ... I hope they get approved!

Thanks for your response....I really do appreciate it. They are going to show their strong ties....

  2. Why would you wait for your K-1 to expire when the number one rule is you should get married before your Visa has expired. You will for sure have a problem. You might need to get married in court as early as you can then get married again with all your relatives. I strongly suggest for you to follow.

do not waste all the effort and money you have invested for this journey.

Yes we already got married ,we applied for marriage licence, our pastor in church did it in his Office, and we to it back to the county and we were issued our marriage certificate now, so we are legally married, but will start file of AOS by july.

my question is we want to have the wedding ceremony, where relatives can attend from Nigeria. Do you think they will be allowed to attend the wedding ceremomy here in the US since we are already married by court? And since my status will be AOS(July first week) by th e time of their visa interview.

NB: my status now is still K-1 but will expire by August 10 and but we are planning the big wedding August 13th.

    Thanks

  3. Hello vj family

Can anyone help me with this, we already got our marriage certificate without but no ceremony, and i have applied for SSN, but we intend to have our wedding ceremony August 11th, where family members and friends can be present. But my K-1 expires August 10th. Does anyone know if this will be a problem for those am inviting during their interview for the wedding here in the US.?

Though we're starting the AOS in first week of july, please any useful info will be appreciated

  4. Well I have to say after a week I have learned five things from Ms. (soon to be Mrs) Aisha.

    1) There are a lot of cars in America

    2) No one walks

    3) A lot of 'big' people

    4) Dr. Pepper (translation for Midwesterners--Pop) is not a daily requirement

    5) Mexican food is not that good

That last one is a first. Everyone I've ever known, even those folks from up in the neither regions of the USA (Yankees), all love Mexican food. So, I am now learning to eat a lot of fruit, vegetables, fish/chicken, and rice--which I should have been doing anyway.

Lol...that's nice. Am happy for you and Aisha now together. My interview is April 7th. Looking forward to the goodnews.

  5. I just gave them the pile of pics. 2 pics from each of the years I'd seen my husband; so a total of about 8 pics. Each were labeled with the approximate month and year on the back as well as the physical location that they were taken at

ThanKS for your help. I have no more worries now with the picture thing..... going in for my medicals tomorrow. I called themy and was told it take 3days to get it done.....so am ready.

  6. I got a 5x7 photo book, with 20 pages. Why that size? Because it fits under the glass. You can pass to the CO when they ask for it with no problem. 20 pictures is way more than enough....As the wise one has stated you can have less.

    How to select:

First created piles. Pile 1 'couple' pictures, regardless of pose. Pile 2 family pictures, regardless if we were both in them or not; just as long as one of us was there.

Then checked each picture from the point of view of someone else seeing it, and what it would say to them. Facial features, activity, clothing, hair style.

Note: clothing and hair style make a difference for those pictures that do not have date/time stamps. My cheap Olympus point and shoot has a date/time stamp option, while my expensive Nikon does not (but stored in data file that is a pain to extract). Lucky for me Aisha changes her hair style as often as someone changes clothes, so it was obvious the pictures where not all taken the same time.

Look for funny, unique, as well as the posed 'party pic'. Give the CO something to smile at, and have a conversation about.

Then placed in the order you want in order to tell a story.

Wow....Jamie. I like your idea as well. Am think of using 20-25 page photobook. And we have lots of good pictures, of ourselves and with family members and friends telling a story.

My fiance came to spence sometime with me for one month January 15th - February 16. So we had a nice time....

    Anyways thanks for your help.

  7. It really doesn't make a difference.

For me, I took 4 photos and arrange them on a word document page and used a total of 12 photos to make my presentation. I printed the word document using my laser jet color printer on regular copy paper and the pictures turned out just fine. You don't have to be elegant nor do you have to have hundred's of photos. You want your pictures to show you have a genuine relationship so pictures with family and the two of you together in loving poses will suffice.

    Good luck.

Thanks a million.....I will do jusr that.

  8. Here is something else that might help.

    http://nigeria.usemb...visa_forms.html

    Fiance/Fiancee visas (K1s, K3s)

If your K1 or K3 petition has been approved by the Department of Homeland Security and you have received notification from the National Visa Center that your petition is on its way to post, you should download and complete the following application. The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos will contact you when your petition has arrived at post so that you may schedule your appointment. If you have questions, you may e-mailLagosIV@state.gov. [Click to open "Interview Preparatory Packet (K1, K3)"PDF 539KB] Also, please review the pamphlet Information on the Legal Rights Available to Immigrant Victims of Domestic Violence in the United States and Facts about Immigrating on a Marriage-Based Visa. (PDF 53KB)

    Thanks a million

  9. That's a good question. I'm sure that it varies with every country, but the hardcopy from NVC won't do you any favors. As long as you have the invoice number you are set to fill out the ds-160 etc

For example, I received the hardcopy last week, which by that time, we were at the embassy doing the interview...

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

I thought so too....because it's seem like it's taking so long to come in my mail. It's says it was case created on 21/01/2016, and status updated 25/01/2016.

I think by tomorrow I will go ahead with filling the ds-160 and the other stuffs.

    Thanks

Always check with your Embassy instructions. Each Embassy is different. Most times you can complete your DS-160, medical and schedule your interview but like I said each Embassy is different so check their website for instructions.

Thanks Greenbaum...I will check out my embassy website right away.

  10. Hello VJ family. ...please I need help on a question. I checked the CEAC website and my case say "READY" BUT I have received any notification either by email or mail from NVC. Please what next step do I expect? Can I go ahead a fill the DS-160 form, medicals as well as set interrier date even without receiving the hardcopy of notification from my embassy?....

Please I will appreciate any useful info.

    Thanks

  11. Congrats!! That's a good surprise.

Like Ella&Joe said, you will probably receive your hard copy within a week or two. When you receive the hard copy, you can either wait two weeks and begin calling NVC for your case number. Or, you can begin calling NVC the following day after it arrives and call every day thereafter... like the rest of us.... every single day

Note: The scripted response is "It usually takes 30 to 45 days" :bonk:

@Ted&Jamie please help what does "Scripted response" mean.....

You are welcome! Scripted post as in they usually tell you the same thing wait for that amount of tine. But don't :))

Oh OK I get you now.....I won't.....Lol. I will start calling as soon as I get the hard copy..Lol.

  12. @ Ella&Joe thanks so much. Am just so happy.

Congrats!! That's a good surprise.
