  2. I am sorry this has happen to you but I wouldn't get a lawyer involed at this time. The officer were not outline because they were responding to a "so call" 911. Yes Dothan, like a lot of cities here in Alabama, have the 'good ole boy" system when it come to the Police Department. There are some well trained and great officer on the force but there are some who don't need to be police officer.

Make a appointment with the Chief or the Commander in charge of patrol divison. Please make sure you have the officer(s) name or badge number because I am sure that will be the first thing they ask for but tell them you know the officer(s) are doing their job by responding to the 911 calls. You feel like there is something wrong with the E911 system because the officer(s) are responding to the wrong address. If Dothan doesn't have a E911 system, just the old 911 system that could be some of the reason the officer(s) are coming to the wrong address. The old 911 system will send calls to other Police departments in your area, Headland Opp, Fort Rucker, Enterprise and then these Police Department would call Dothan to informed them of the address of the 911 call. If this is the case more than likely someone wrote down the wrong address before sending the officer(s) out of the call. For everyone sake in Dothan I hope they have the E911 system.

If you feel like this meeting isn't going to resolve the issue than contact the Mayor's office and of course get your councilperson for your area involed.

  3. The USDA are pretty useless in enforcing the HMSA anyway. They don't monitor the living conditions, the transportation or any treatment prior to the actual slaughter: all they are concerned with is that the animal is unconcious before they begin cutting it up. (with the exception of Halal and Kosher slaughterhouses, of course)

They also used to have the power to halt the production line if they saw any non-compliance, but they no longer have that power, since it caused too much of a delay.

You are right the USDA doesn't monitor the living conditions or transportation of animals, this respondbility falls to the local STATE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

  4. I am sure PETA has done some good when it come to animals!!!! PETA came to Montgomery last year and stood outside a elementary school dress like cow with fake blood draining from the neck. When the kids saw this they started to cry and scream. Kids that young doesn't need to be exposed to that. According to a PETA Spokeperson, they want kids to understand when they go to McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King and other resturants the meat they were eating came from a cattle they bleed to death. #######!!!!

  5. Actually, Halal and Kosher slaughter methods are NOT humane.

Here is a study conducted over a period of 4 years by someone who doesn't have any religious bias toward skewing the facts.

    study: http://www.fawc.org.uk/reports/pb8347.pdf

If you'd rather not read the whole report, the report details the finding of the study specifically as it relates to Kosher and Halal slaughtering methods on pages 42-44.

There is also an interpretation of the findings in the report in this news article: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-680925,00.html

    excerpts from the study:

"The Farm Animal Welfare Council, which is appointed and funded by the Government, has concluded after a four-year study that Jewish and Muslim methods of slaughter are inhumane."

"195. When a very large transverse incision is made across the neck a number of vital tissues are transected including: skin, muscle, trachea, oesophagus, carotid arteries, jugular veins, major nerve trunks (e.g. vagus and phrenic nerves) plus numerous minor nerves. Such a drastic cut will inevitably trigger a barrage of sensory information to the brain in a sensible (conscious) animal. We are persuaded that such a massive injury

would result in very significant pain and distress in the period before insensibility supervenes."

    and

"198. Loss of sensibility post-cut can be detected by observing brain function through electroencephalographic methodology - a lack of response indicating certain insensibility or death. The scientific evidence shows that sheep become insensible within 5-7 seconds of the cut (3-7 seconds in goats). Adult cattle, however, may take between 22 and 40

seconds to become insensible. This period may be extended should occlusion of the carotid arteries take place. Work done on calves has shown a variation in period to insensibility from 10-120 seconds depending on the extent of occlusion of the carotid arteries or ballooning in blood vessels. Furthermore, a separate study of brain response after Shechita slaughter of cattle compared to that after captive-bolt stunning indicated

responses for up to 60 seconds in the former and no response in the latter. (The difference in the times to loss of sensibility between the various species is due to anatomical differences in the blood supply to the brain)."

USDA, PETA and really any animal group can and have done studies on this issue. There have been many lawsuit to stop this practice but as everyone know here in America when have a document called the "BILL OF RIGHTS" and according to the "BILL OF RIGHTS" amendment I... Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. so as long as the JEWISH and other RELIGIOUS GROUP faith states meat must be slaughter is this way according to their law it would be done.

  6. All slaughter houses use what is called a "ping" hammer. The ping hammer send a electric impulse to the animals brain so they dead very quicky and painless. If anyone wanted to visit a slaughter house to see how animals are treat, just make sure you bring a braff bag, just drop me a pm and if we have a plant in your area I will make the arrangement. Oh by the way doing it before July 1, I will be out of the country from July 1 to Sept getting married and spending time with my new wife

  7. i think killing the animal should be a method that provides as instantly a death as possible, rather than some slow death like cutting it's throat and letting it thrash about for an eternity.

i also despise fur coats too.

The only time a animal "throat is cut" is when the rabbi is making kosher meat. PETA sued a Jewish Rabbi in New York in 1992, the federal court rule in favor on the Jewish Rabbi.....

Kosher animals must be slaughtered according to the rigid regulations of shechita (pronounced sheh-KHEE-taw), Hebrew for slaughtering. There are literally hundreds of laws governing shechitah, all of which combine to produce a painless dispatch for the animal to be slaughtered and the freshest, cleanest meat you'll ever eat. But primarily, shechitah involves the shochet (kosher butcher, pronounced SHOW-khet) drawing a meticulously sharpened, imperfection-free blade swiftly, reciting a blessing ("Blessed are You... Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us concerning slaughtering"), and smoothly running the blade back and forth across the animal's neck, instantly ending its life in a most humane manner. Of course, before the shochet even becomes a shochet, he must be thoroughly versed in the laws governing the preparation and usage of the knife and the handling of the animal both before and after shechitah

  8. I look at the post several time trying to decide so I respond or not. These "videos" PETA are showing on these web site is for one thing and one thing only, TO RAISE MONEY.

I have been in the meat packing house business for 22 years. Let me start off saying NO DEAD ANIMALS ARE SLAUGHTER FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION!!!! From the time animals arrive at the plant they are under USDA control, not the plant or company. Every meat packing plant in America has at least 10 USDA inspector. When a cattle truck arrives at the plant, the driver heads to the stockyard "holidng pen". The guys who work in the stockyard at the plant, finds a pen for the cattle to be place in. They make sure the pen has fresh running water and feed. The USDA inspector takes the paper work from the driver, the driver opens the gate on his truck and the cattle come off. The USDA inspector is standing there watching the cattle unload from the trailer. If the USDA inspector notices a cow that seems to be ill, cripple that animal is cutting from the herd and place into another pen. Every morning for any animal is slaughtered, the USDA inspectors comes to the stockyard to inspect all animals. The USDA inspector does random "drug"test, skin test and recheck animals before they are allow to leave the pen and head to the "killing" floor. Once on the killing floor, a USDA inspector recheck and take 4 oz of blood, by the way 2 oz of blood is collect from every animal and place in a gallon jug FEDEX everyday to the America Cancer Research for cancer research.

Women love their make up. Every women should know that the cow hoofs are use to make cosmetic for women, the brushes you use to apply to the make up are made from cattle. Have you ever took medicine which has a "gel" coating? The gel used for these coating on drugs are made from cattle.

One has to remember this, cattle, chickens, turkey, hogs are raise for one thing and one thing only and that is for meat for us to eat!!!!

  9. Just thought I would share with anyone else who craves 'proper' bacon like you can get back in England that I've just finished eating the BEST bacon and fried egg sarnie I've had in MONTHS !!

We stopped off at the British Grocery Store the other day and bought a pack of their Irish bacon. It costs about $6 for a pack and this time we only got 5 rashers (we got 6 last time) but its absolutely the best bacon I can find around here and worth every penny if you ask me.

I fried it up this morning, slapped it between 2 fried eggs and then a couple of pieces of thick sliced white bread and went to heaven for the 3 minutes it took me to destroy it !! It could have only been made better had the bread been thick sliced bread fresh from the oven in Sainsburys. I washed it down with some PG Tips served in my England mug (also courtesy of the British grocery Store).

The weather may not be very British (90 degrees at 9am) but for a few minutes there I could have been in my mums kitchen back in London.

I don't need those kind of indulgencies very often but until I can get on a plane bound for London thats as close to England as I can get. I can thouroghly reccommend this kind of threapy for anyone wanting a taste of home, wherever home may be !!

    Mark :)

Some the best bacon on the market here in America is called "slab" smoked bacon. The bacon comes in a 10 to 12 lbs slab and you can cut the bacon to the thickness you need. Slab bacon is 100% better tasting than pre package bacon. You can ask you local meat manager if they sell the whole slab bacon, best place to fnd slab bacon are in small stores.
  10. Hi

Has anyone been approached by International Auto Source? Apparently a moving company I was getting quotes from passed on my name to them. Its a company that sells cars to Foreign National and Diplomatic communities. They say they can get good deals for new cars because you cut out the dealers and buy straight from the makers. You have to start the ball rolling in this country pay a deposit etc. Had some guy call me and try and sell me the idea.

Has anyone done this? Are the deals good? The web site is

    http://www.intlauto.com/wps/portal/intlauto

    Any advice would be helpful

    Many Thanks

    Lyn

I would really check out this company before purchasing a car from them or anyone right now. The reason I said this is because as many you may remember 9 months ago a hurrican hit the south. The est of car under water, for 2 week and some were 2 months under water, were over 10,000. About 2 weeks ago a gentleman was arrested here in Mobile, Alabama for selling car to people and not disclosing to them that the car were from the hurrican hit area and could have possible been under water for a lenght of time. According to the peoples he purhcase cars from claim he was buying the cars to ship to Mexico and they would be sold there. The guy was telling customer who has purchase the cars from him he was a auto broker from Mexico and was selling this cars at lost for a family friend who owned a car dealership in Mexico who need money to pay off his back taxes. Before purchasing a car please ask, some dealers will ge glad to tell you, who own the car. Just be careful.
  11. On my home computer I have a program which allows me to translate Ukrainian words into English words but I can't download the program on the computer at work. The IT department has some kind of block to keep people from downloading "stuff" on the office computers. For the guys in the IT department, we can download games  Does anyone know of a great web site that I can use at work which would allow me to translate Ukrainia words? Raisa, English is getting better but there are still some works she doesn't understand.
