  1. Hey everyone,

Just wondering if the security guards at the US consulate store cell phones and wallets. I read several times that mobile phones aren't allowed inside. Did any of you who already interviewed bring your phones with you and they were stored? Thanks

  2. My husband has an interview scheduled!!!!! June 17th!!! :dancing::star::dance:

I can't believe it!!! That light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. I didn't think we would get an interview towards the middle of the month like that especially since our CC was towards the end of the month.

God willing, all goes well and my wonderful husband will be here with me by our one year anniversary!!!! Now i'm praying all goes smoothly between now and through the interview. (L)

Congrats Liny!! So happy for you guys!!

  3. About that; was this in Montreal? Cause some CBPs officers are a**holes here! Just like the one you ran into. Your situation is all too familiar to me.

But besides that and from a legal practitioner's perspective, he's right. You can't have 2 legal names unless you combined maiden and newly assumed name. If you call Canada Passport, they will tell you the same thing. You'll have to apply for a new passport with your newly assumed name. Don't worry about your birth certificate.

  4. For anyone who is interested, I've submitted a review of our interview experience today:

We arrived at the consulate at 12:50pm for appt at 1:00pm. I expected to be turned away like a lot of other spouses and fiances seem to have been in the reviews before this one. Surprisingly, they allowed me to attend the interview with him, and be a part of the whole process at every window. Everyone working there was very friendly and chatty. When we arrived, we were called to one of the windows to check in, and then told to sit down. Then we were called up to another window to submit original and copy documents to a woman who asked us a few questions. (Birth cert, marriage cert, affidavits, tax forms, etc.) We were told to sit back down and wait to be called again. I was glad I got to come in with the Husband, because we kept each other company and had a good laugh while we waited, since they take away your phone and all electronics before you arrive. We ended up waiting for nearly 2 hours before we had the actual interview, because there were several others ahead of us in the waiting queue... (a J1, a CR1, and another IR1, who ended up being declined because he was missing a form, the poor lad.)

When we were finally called up to the last window for the actual interview, the consulate officer was really friendly. The first thing he did was compliment us on how well organized we were with all our forms and documents. (THANK YOU VJ!) He said the amount of people that show up missing documents or not having things properly filled out was quite a lot, so it was nice to work with our file. He asked us about how we met, what our plans were up arrival to the US and where we plan to live, how our sponsor was related to us, about our kids, and what Husband plans to do for work.
He then made a few jokes. We had a bit of small talk. Over all, the whole process was super easy and nice. He said, "Congratulations! You have been Approved!" at which point, my husband said, "THANK YOU SO MUCH!" and gave me a big kiss. HAHA!
Because I registered with CSC website beforehand via the link that was sent to us through email by the Embassy back when the interview date was assigned, we did not need to pay extra for postage or submit the A3 envelope. I designated for us to collect the visa/passport from our local DPD courier, which the consulate officer said should be available to collect within 10 days.
All in all, the whole day was a very positive one. Now our real adventure begins!!

Congratulations to you and to all who are done with the interview phase. Great news to kick off the (soon) summer season :goofy: :goofy:

  5. Hey folks I need some advice/help:

I am preparing our paperwork for the NVC and I seem to be questioning myself with regard to the documents to send, specifically my long form birth certificate. I assumed my spouses last name and this changed all my documentation (passport, drivers license, health card, social insurance number, taxes, etc.) except for my birth certificate. You have to do a legal name change to have your birth certificate changed, however in Canada and the USA you are able to assume your spouses last name versus doing a full legal name change. So my question is...am I fine keeping with the assumption of my spouses last name and submitting my birth certificate as is?

Best of luck to everyone at the NVC this month.

    Thank you,

    EAJA

You'll be fine with your maiden name. Your marriage certificate (if you were married either in Canada or the US) should indicate your maiden and newly assumed name.

  6. Question about sending AOS and IV documents via e-mail to NVC (EP) .... NVC website does not seem to require COVER SHEET. It states to place case number in the subject line of the email and keep your attachments below five megabytes (MB).

Does this sound right, just e-mailing the AOS form and documents in an e-mail with case # on subkect line?

    https://travel.state...ocuments.html..

    Also under FAQ: "

Create a separate file for each document, including all of its pages and both sides of double-sided documents. Do not include multiple documents in any scan file.

    "

Each scan file must be named as it is created. Choose a file name that includes the following information:

    • Your NVC case number;
    • The full name of the applicant whose document you scanned; and
    • The document name or form number.

    For example:

    • ABC2009123456_John_Doe_DS-3032.pdf
    • ABC2009123456_Jane_Doe_Birth_Certificate.pdf

Yes, do exactly as instructed on NVC's website. Cover pages aren't required for EP. And whatever you do, do not send more than one email. Our experience with EP has been nothing but a nightmare. PM me if you want more details.

  7. You said it...he committed crime, served time and got deported. Think about that for a second. Do you think he stands a slim chance!?! Even if the mom petitions for him, they will run into the history nonetheless (felony, mental illness and deportation). From a legal point of view and my professional experiences with clients, I can't possibly imagine a citizen defending such a case before an immigration judge (they will be shut down so fast). This would cost a ton of $$$ and that's if an attorney is willing to take that impossible risk. Good luck!

  8. Well Liny,

I got checklist for updated AoS docs and NVC received and scanned them on March 3rd.....I have called everyday since then and have been told that I must wait the 30-45 days for them to review it....####### if you ask me.

So agree with you. So they've confirmed that they haven't touched your case since emailing round 2 of docs? They actually reviewed our case less than 2 weeks after submitting the first time (EP). We got a checklist as well...our new scan date is March 4th.
