  1. Hello, all. First time post in this forum but have a quick question. Wife had bio in Las Vegas on May 7 and we still have not heard anything about the interview. I know several people heard within a month after the bio. Is there anywhere I can call to find info out or just sit and wait it out? I am going to scour for back posts now but thought maybe someone might be able to help me out. Thanks. We filed on March 26 and everything started out smoothly, seems we may have hit a slowdown in the process. I will add to the March filers our info today as well.

  2. Just a quick update. Ceci's conditions were removed on June 1. The website is still not updated but we rec'd the approval letter just before we left for Colombia. Pretty quick considering CSC never scheduled a Biometrix appointment until we had the inquiry done. Hopefully when we get back her new card will be waiting for her. At last this journey which began in September, 2006 has ended. Good luck to all and I cannot say thank you enough to all who have helped us through the last 2+ years, VJ is a god send to all.

  3. My wife's biometrix appointment is for Thursday the 28th. She does not speak much english. Can anyone tell me what she might expect to have to do and about how long it will take her there if all goes normal. Any forms she may have to fill out or anything. Any help would be appreciated as I cannot go with her and not sure what to tell her will happen. thanks.

  4. OK just an update and another question. I got my biometrix letter and appointment today in the mail. Today is the 26th and the appointment is for the 28th. Yea this Thursday. I had the search done after my 30 days were up. My question is the appointment I know is for fingerprints. What else goes on and how long does it normally take. I am in a bit of a bind as Ceci does not speak English well and I am going to have a hard time getting off work with this short notice. Any info on what she will need to do there and a general idea on how long it may take would be appreciated. Thanks.

  5. I am at a loss. CSC received our I-751 on April 9. Got our NOA about a week later but nothing since. I called the other day and they said they would do something and send out an appointment letter some time in the next 45 days. Problem is we are going to be out of the country all summer. Is there anything I can do to get something done? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  6. Isn't it strange the way the embassy has unfettered decision making power. My in-laws were denied their tourist visas in Bogota this week. They are in their 60's, own a farm, and have strong ties to home. Their, or his problem was he has a brother who is a political refugee and a sister who is married in the US, as well as my wife. The CO denied the visa based on the fact he could not find any of the above in the computer system. He went as far as saying all were here illegally, including my wife who has her green card. I am writing my senators even though I know there is not much they can. I don't mind being turned down if the reason is legit, but to arbitrarily deny based on false information just doesn't sit well. Wish there was more we could do.

  7. I should have posted this here but mistakenly put it in the general forrm. We are heading to Colombia for Christmas but our return flight lands in Mexico City. My question is, since she has a Colombian passport and her Permanent Resident card here, is there a problem in Mexico City for her? Colombians need a visa to go to Mexico. I am assuming not but thought one of you guys might know for sure. Thanks.

  8. I have a quick question some of you may know the answer to. My wife has her Permanent Resident card here in the US and a Colombian passport. She will be traveling back to the US with a flight landing in Mexico City and laying over for about 4 hours. Is her Colombian passport and green card all the documents she will need or since her passport is Colombian will she need a visa as required of Colombian residents to land there? Thanks for the help.

Yes green ard and passport are the only things you need. i had travelled several times out of US and was able to return with GC and indian passport. No issues. There is a separate (usually shorted queues) for permanent residents and citizens at the port of entry.

Actually am concerned with her landing in Mexico City. Colombian residents needs a visa to go to Mexico. The issue is she treated as Colombian there or an American resident. My inclinations are American and she is fine. Just trying to verify as am having a hard time finding an answer anywhere,

  10. Diana, don't think we all have forgotten. Those of us before the change can't help as much as George and JK as they have gone through the new process. I watch and if and when I can help I do or will. I have answered a lot of personal emails asking for help. JK is right, we are rooting for you, as you will see, once your spouse arrives, the board here unfortuanately becomes lesser a priority in your life. I guess it is the law of nature.

  11. We were married in San Andres as well and the marriage there is recognized by the whole country. My wife said there is no need to register in Bogota. As far as the translations go, I did it myself and then had the ELL specialist in my school proof it change the mistakes and then she signed the translation verification. I did this to both documents we got from the notary for the marriage. Had no trouble with anything at the USCIS.

  12. Just a simple good luck to you guys heading on down to Bogota in July. Everything is fine in the world for us.

Right now in Denver and doing a meet the family tour of the US. Left LV on the 12th and will get back the end of next month. Life is great, you guys will love having your wife here (or hubby Diane). Again good luck. A quick note for you guys. I had checked for them to send Ceci's SS card once she entered the country but it never happened. We had to go down and spend the day at SSA and apply for one. The POE people never sent it to SS. I guess for me, I would say it might be quicker doing it yourself.

  13. Most people I saw were in slacks and a collared shirt, polo or button down. Ladies were dressed the same, casual but nice. Not many there in jeans the day we went through. Ceci work slacks, boots and a nice top. I wore a polo shirt and dockers. To be honest I really don't think the lady noticed what we were wearing but most people looked pretty sharp that day.

  14. I will second that Looking, Ceci was in Customs for right at 2 hours, most of the time not in a the secondary interview room but in the visitors line trying to through. It seems the amount of people going through Atlanta is increasing. For anyone going through Atlanta I would schedule connections no less than 2 1/2 - 3 hours after they arrive in the US. We actually had 5 hours, a bit much but had no other choice.

  15. Since Ceci lives in Bogota she had the lab work done several days before the medical. We chose Dra. for two reasons, one from what a couple people I correspond with said about how good their experience with her was and Ceci did say she would feel more comfortable with a female Dr. as well. And as Looking said "I can only comment on our experience" I still stand behind behind my recommendation. As for the cry fest, I dreaded that moment as well but we decided all the goodbyes would be said the night before and not at the airport to avoid that. God I was dreading that but lucked out. I would still recommend going down for the experience if you can take the time off work. Ceci really felt more comfortable with me at the embassy and again in Atlanta when we met there. I guess our karma is good, the whole journey was quick, clean and hassle free.

  16. I guess becoming upset does not help any situationa and I have found that to be true with any Colombiano. I had to post my two cents worth on Dr. Gonzalez. My wife had a great experience with her and her staff. I sent a ds-230 with Ceci and she signed it there. That is all they needed. Looking was correct, Ceci had to go back the next day to get the packet and no the doctor did not talk with her. But then I can't say I see any compassion from Dr.'s here in the states either. Not to create a war but I just spoke with Ceci about this and she would recommend Dr. Gonzalez. Just another opinion. I would not hesitate to use her just make sure have a fresh ds-230 to sign in front the staff.

  17. i called the nvc today, they confirmed having received the ds230 and they told me that after it has been reviewed, the nvc would be setting up the appointment. two packets will be sent from the nvc, one to bogota who will then send it to my wife and the other to me. i was told that i can check back with them to see if an interview date has been set. well, more waiting, but i hope that the nvc will set something up quickly.

    Hey bro,

Thanks for the update. Sounds like as long as you get your copy of the packet, it does not matter

if the Colombian mail delivers your wife's. You can both use yours. That eliminates some of the

worrying. I hope you get your interview soon!

    Cheers!

    George

Hey George your packet you get is in Spanish anyway. So yes you can send it to your wife. Sorry for the late post but been a bit tied up. As far as liking all Colombianos, I am with you on that James, I wish my mother was as amable as mi suegra. I also like your disclaimer about being a lawyer. I am not active any longer but still licensed. Never say much about it as most people still ask for my opinion.

  18. Hi everybody, our I-130 was approved today!

I've been all over VJ announcing the happy news. Just wait until we get the actual visa so I can bombard you with my happy posts!!!! :P

Congrats Diana, one less thing to worry about and it appears you are going to have a well blazed path to follow the new procedures with.

  20. George, no they don't ask you what name you want to use at the embassy. As to the other, trouble getting it, as with all else some do have issues other do not. Not a lot of help. I checked yes but my wife and I are not doing the name change until the process is completely over. We thought that to be less a hassle. But to be honest, the name change is not that important to either of us.

  21. Wow James the shortcut guy is real. I have never seen a post from you but take this time to personally thank you for all your help. As to us that are done being at the beach, I wish. We are just busy doing things you all will soon be able to enjoy. You will understand. George, you have to call NVC, speak to the operator and just ask the status of your case. I did so every couple of days and just kept saying, "I called and the recording says I am missing documents, act dumb even though you know better. Eventually they will tell you that the I-864 has been processed but they are waiting for approval on your DS-230. It takes longer to process. They will not notify you of the 864 approval. As for the final approval, my was updated on the recording that my case was approved that same day. Others said it was never updated, just keep calling.

James as to the NVC making the appointments. It seems that more documents are now being sent to the NVC instead of taking them to the embassy for the interview. No one knows for sure but it looks like the docs must go to NVC before you can get your interview. Jedknight seems to be leading the pack here for all the rest to follow.

    Good luck guys

    Doug
