Hello,
I am a US citizen and married my wife here in the states back on March 17 2006. My wife is French. Our 2 years will be approaching and I hear there will be an interview for her to obtain her permenant residency.
first off, im looking for any info on this interview, what i might need, what to expect, etc...
im also looking to see what i would have to do as a us citizen obtaining a visa for france to live and work.
any info would be greatly appreciated.
thank you very much

thank you so much, everyone.
this site has given me so much more information than i could have imagined. just using this site helped us get the aos done without a lawyer.
if there is any information ii can help annnyone with, i'd be more than glad to.
does anyone have any idea how long it might take before we see the green card in the mail?
-
we were never scheduled an interview, is this something that happens afterrr the approval? or were we just lucky and didn't have to go to one ?
expecting to wait 9 months, and being approved after 1, it's still very hard to believe
-
yea, we mailed our case to chicago along with the work authorization and the travel document on sept 9. less than a week later it was forwarded to california. we went to have the biometrics on 9/29/06, and recieved this email today.
so im assuming that since the aos was approved it doesn't matter that the travel document or work authorization wasn't approved yet right? since the green card must supersede the others.

we recieved this for an email..
Application Type: I485 , Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status
Current Status:
On October 10, 2006, after approving your application, we ordered you a new card. Your card will be mailed to you as soon as it is ready.
If you have questions or concerns about your application or the case status results listed above, or if you have not received a decision or advice from USCIS within the projected processing time frame*, please contact the National Customer Service Center.
does this mean that her aos was approved? whats this card? we dont have any card. we sent in our application about a month ago, so this doesnt sound right. 1 month approval? hmmm

what is this "touched" line mean? how do you see when somebody has looked at your case?
-
when we sent our AOS, i785 and i131 we mailed everything together to the Chicago Il po box. so when i check the status of the 785 and 131 applications do i search the current processing times under "chicago il district office" ? our AOS was redirected to California Service Center.
the i131 under chicago il says they are working on reciepts from February 17, 2006
the 131 i was told takes no more than 90 days. the processing time for the AOS is less than the travel document. so is this just the current case they are working on that might just so happen to have some problems maybe, or is this look like a 7 month process time?

We got this letter as well but we just sent our AOS in about 2 weeks ago. The letter states that the case has been sent to the CSC. our biometrics is on Friday Sept 29.
where can i check the status online regarding our case?
and since we haven't even done our biometrics i doubt it would take only 2 more weeks.

on part 1 question 3 of the I-131 form the question asks, "class of admission" for my wife, the immigrant. would she put K-1 visa ?

Here is the actual vaccination supplement you get from a civil surgeon in the US.
Thanks everybody. Just went to the civil surgeon and got the rest of my vaccinations done. She filled out the form, and everything is all set. She did it for free!

If I file my AOS and advanced parole this week, do you guys think there's any chance I'll be seeing my family in France for Christmas? My sister is having a baby that is due Christmas day! I haven't seen my family in almost a year and my mom is really starting to stress me out by asking me 'ARE YOU COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS' every day!! I DON'T KNOW MOM! It's in the hands of the almighty uscis officers! Well, it's almost in their hands. Right now, it's in my hands because we finally have the money to send all of this in. How can they expect someone to not be able to work but be able to pay hundreds of dollars in application fees to be ABLE to work in the first place?!!
Ok. I'm stressing out here. Someone help ease my headache (and heartache) and tell me there's a slight chance I'll see my family this Christmas. I'm only 20! I'm still a baby! I need my mama!

The form you got at your medical is most likely the DS-3025. Look in one of the corners for the fine print.
The I-693 is the form the doctor completed - you never saw it - it was your complete report.
You can take your DS-3025 to a civil surgeon here in the US and have them complete a I-693A (vaccine supplement) which is the form you need for your AOS packet.
Actually, the medical examination for a K-1 visa was done using the DS-3026 form (Medical History and Physical Examination Worksheet), along with the DS-3024 (Chest X-Ray and Classification Worksheet) and DS-2053 (Medical Examination for Immgrant or Refugee Applicant).
The DS-3025 (Vaccination Documentation Worksheet) can either be taken to a civil surgeon and be transcribed onto the I-693A supplement, or do what other's have done, and just send in a copy of your DS-3025. If you get the I-693A, be sure the doctor seals it in an envelope and stamps it.
I was thinking of just sending a copy of my DS-3025. Well, that's what I was going to do before I realized there was such thing as an I-693A. I noticed others had just sent in copies of the DS-3025..but is that risky? Does anyone know of anyone having any consequences for just sending in a copy of that instead of taking it to a civil surgeon? I don't really have $50 to spare thanks to all the application fees, but I don't want any problems either!

Great! Thanks so much for your help.

I'm so incredibly confused, guys.
Is the vaccination supplement the I-693? Or is it the form with all my new vaccinations the civil surgeon gave me when I had my first medical for the K-1 visa?
Thanks for all your help on all my other questions! This is so stressful!

1) Does each document need two photographs?
Yes.
2) The I-131 says that my head should be turned 3/4, but I thought they didn't do it like that anymore?Correct, all the photos should be in the new face on format. The form is out of date.
Thanks, so does this mean they should be 2inx2in or not? I figured the guy at walgreens must know what he's doing. He even put it in an official passport picture wallet thing which shows the outline of the size of the photo.

Ok, so I'm filing the AOS and the I-131 advanced parole document at the same time.
Two questions:
1) Does each document need two photographs?
2) The I-131 says that my head should be turned 3/4, but I thought they didn't do it like that anymore?
Yesterday I went to walgreens to have my picture taken for the AOS packet, and the pictures were 2in x 2in. Is that right? I always thought the pictures were supposed to be photobooth size since that's the way I did it for the K-1 packet.
HELP!

We are sending off our adjustment of status packet, at the same time as our I-131 so that my wife can go to France to visit her family for christmas/her sister is having a baby due christmas day.
On the I-131 it says, "on a seperate piece of paper, please explain how you qualify for an advance parole document and what circumstances warrant issuance of advance parole. include copies of any documents you wish considered."
What should we write here? Should we explain why my wife wants to go visit her family? Can we include any medical documents of her sister's pregnancy? How do I explain how she 'qualifies for an advance parole document'?
Thanks a lot!
Hoping to send the packet off tomorrow morning or it'll be a little tight for time if she wants to see them Christmas. She hasn't seen her family in almost a year! It seems everything is against us because our printer just ran out of ink!!

is there any time frame after getting married that the AOS has to be submitted? i know the sooner the better of course, but is there a time limit?
-
what if she obtains a work visa? if a job offers her a job and gives her a letter, isn't she able to update her visa?
-
is there any timeline or deadline between the time you marry to the time you send in the i-485 form for adjustment to a permenent resident ? uscis said no, but i wanted to make sure. her visa runs out sometime in june, but we are married and we did not surpass the 90 day timeframe between the time she entered the U.S. and when we got married.
just want to make sure there is no deadline date between getting married and sending in the i-485. if not i think we may just send in the i-765 for now so that she can work legally.
-
A short history before the question.
I am a us citizen, i married a French citizen, we have not filed for a green card (i-485) form or Application for Employment Authorization (i-765).
If an employer allows her to work without form 765 or 485 filed, can she? She has a social security card, but it says not authorized to work without dhs approval. If she were to work, what are the repercussions?
i hear the i-765 form may take up to 90 days, does this seem to be the waiting time?
thanks for any help and information
