I am so happy for everyone!
We got married up in the mountains on May 7th. I just got back from our Honeymoon. Everything went way better then we could have imagined. My next goal is to get a place for us within the next 3 months, currently we are living with my parents. I will be starting the AOS process today. She should be receiving her SS card soon, then she will go back to get her name changed. It feels weird to be married, but not in a bad way. Saying my wife, someone with the same last name; I feel more connected to the person I am with than ever before with anyone else.
Muito Obrigado Kiki. I am blessed that I met my wife, our story is something I always love telling and people are always fascinated by it. I am happy to join the Brazilian family, I know there will be many visits there in my future. I hope the best for you as well and wish upon you everlasting love in your marriage. That goes for everyone here.

I am getting married this Saturday. Still feels unreal that this is happening. But we are soooo excited!

:goofy:
Tick Tock, we are now starting a new count down timer
By the way, I said we would use this as a fast pass for AOS. I was only kidding. Completely, I mean really completely, not expected, and unexpected. Aisha was sure the doctor was not correct. I got two over the counter test kits, in case one was a false positive, to confirm; both gave the + and - sign. I took a picture--which Aisha said I was crazy to do. It will be part of our new arrival's picture story book
Wow. You and Aisha's story together will be very interesting to tell for your whole life. Congrats!
But my fiance and I are not ready for that lol. I am actually having my mom take her to the doctor next Tuesday so she can get a Depo shot. We get married in 2 weeks and we want her to be.........ready. (After I came back from Brazil last August, we decided to wait until marriage) Sorry if that was too much information. Point is, we are going to wait a couple years for a filho (kid).
Bless your new family Jaime. It is amazing how much a life can change in 1 year.

16 hours til interview................!
What a long journey. Bless you!

A real trooper, did the entry on her own. I bet that was a little stressful. But good on Jaque. Try the 'fire' hot sauce at Taco Bell :-) Not spicy, just says fire.
I suppose it is lucky for us, Aisha has asked we just go to court for the wedding--small, nothing elaborate, no 'big show'. So I've deplaned the wedding down to 6 people, and a court house venue. I have learned about shopping, don't show...I've been told when I show a store, it is not to just look, you have to buy, so better not to show--otherwise it is my fault as it was explained to me.
FACETIME---I never used it before, but now it is daily.
FACETIME---I never used it before, but now it is daily.
I know what you mean, I used to work 12 hours daily. Now I'm here 8, and rushing out the door like everyone else :-)
Yeah I hear ya. Our wedding is only going to have about 25 people. LOL. I have already bought her more in 4 days then I have for myself in the past year. But she needed some of that stuff, only brought 2 bags. Isn't FaceTime and iphone app? Dang iphone... i'm an Android guy lol.
It was an experience for her yesterday, when we went to church it was 42 degrees. She had never felt any temperature below 60 in her whole life. I'm so glad I don't live up north, she would have been an ice cube. I'm actually planning on moving us near the beach in Florida this summer, since we both love hot weather and the beach. Only place in the US close to the climate she had in Rio.
Let us know when your wedding date is, mine is on May 7th. It is a great feeling to finally have this. We have all been through a lot. Does not feel to long ago that we were stressing about our Visa forms being in order etc. I wish you and everyone else many blessings for your new families.

Yay! That's great! I know how you feel about working and just wanting to be with her. I've been married for 2 months (as of tomorrow) and I still love just being with my husband. Every minute. I watch the clock here at my job until I can go home! Going outside and watching him play soccer, watching soccer with him even though I still don't have a clue half the time of what's happening! Watching a movie with him. Taking a walk outside...pretty much all the things we couldn't do while dating we are doing now
Exactly. My fiance was a little sad last night because I had to go back to work. Being 8 months apart before Thursday, we just want to enjoy every minute we have with each other. I make the most of every moment and try to be more laid back than I already am lol. It is great to hear about everyone's adventure after this whole process. I can't wait to get married!

Hi everyone. Just an update. My fiance arrived this past Thursday. She was able to get through immigration without any trouble. I was worried because she had no way to talk to me, her phone wouldn't connect to the wifi. When she arrived in Atlanta she was able to find me, which was amazing. She has loved every minute here so far, she has loved every restaurant i've taken her to and every store. We went to Taco Bell on Friday, she was a little scared because she thought it would be spicy. I had her get a crunchwrap and she liked it.
The past day we have been doing a lot of wedding planning. It is also interesting, I have probably spoken 10 minutes worth of English in the past 4 days. But I think it has really helped my Portuguese, I even had a dream that was completely in Portuguese. I am at work and all I want to do is spend more time with her. But I need to make that money for our wedding lol.
-
My fiance is leaving tonight at 9:30. I am sooooo anxious. I am praying everything goes smoothly for her. She is arriving here at 11:00 tomorrow morning. It is very difficult for me to work right now when she is preparing for her adventure. At least I have tomorrow and Friday off to spend time with her and acclimate her to her new world.
Lol, that is funny Jaime. I know my fiance will say the same things. Except replace Dr. Pepper with Mountain Dew in my case. I hope my fiance likes Mexican. I tried to explain to my fiance that no one walks here unless you are inside a big city, she can't comprehend that. She walks everywhere or takes the bus. I live in the suburbs north of Atlanta and she said she wants to walk to the grocery store. I told her it is too far, but she doesn't believe me.

You don't need the SSN to get married. And most ladies get their ssn after if they will be changing their last name. You can get one before, but you'd have to go back to the social security office again after you get married to document the name change.
I've been looking into this for the past week or so. The problem is from what I read, the SS office has to find the name of the person with the K-1 Visa in the immigration database and issue the card in the same name as it is on the I-94, which of course will be the maiden name. And if you wait two months, it will be too late to get SS to issue a card before the I-94 expires and will have to wait on the green card before getting it. And also since I want to add my fiance to my bank account asap, she will apply for the SSN when she gets here then after she will change it to her new name.

Obaaaaaa!!!!! Que coisa boa! 2 weeks is nothing. We have so much respect for people like yourself and your SO, you guys survived a veryyy long time apart, and my fiancé and I are complaining about being one month apart. Luckily, since we met, we never had to spend more than 5 weeks apart and it already felt beyond disheartening. We wish you all the best, a lot of love and a lot of patience with the adjustment inherent from all these changes. #foradilma
Thank you for your support! She has been nervous, never left Rio before much less the country. I am trying to calm her down, she is nervous about the flight. I am trying to make it as easy as possible by giving her maps of every airport she will be in and how to reach her next destination, giving her a Portuguese to English sheet to be able to talk with people if she needs to and my information if anyone needs to contact me. Honestly the one thing that is stressing me out the most is the wedding planning.
I noticed when my fiance gets really excited about something she will say ebaaaaaaa!!! I noticed you said obaaaaaa!!! Is that the same? I am still learning a lot about the language. I am just happy I can have a casual conversation with her now, because communication is very important.
-
Nice to hear about everyone's success in our forum. We are a great group of people.
2 weeks from today, I will be driving to the airport to pick up my love. The wait has been difficult, one of the hardest things i've had to do in my life. Everyday I am looking at the clock
screaming, "Go faster!"
-
After all this waiting, I finally have a date to look forward to for my fiance to arrive here. She will be here on March 31st. We will be getting married on May 7th. These next 3 weeks are going to feel like forever! I am happy to start planning stuff though, that should keep me busy. All I know is when we are together, I will never take our time for granted.
-
Congrats Jaime. This shows how stressful this can be for the fiance as well. When you said that she said she wasn't going, I knew she was going to change her mind lol. And as for that cousin of hers, you need to buy that guy a Rolex or something.
-
This forum has definitely been in a lull lately. But after we are all married and getting prepared for the AOS, we will be going through this all over again. An update on my situation, I will find out on Sunday when my fiance will be able to arrive. I am hoping for the 10th but we will see. I've been planning on a late April wedding. I am ready!

Last year I spent 2.5 months here in Hartford with my fiance, as he works very closeby, he would come home for lunch we would spend that one hour together... then, he would come home at 5ish and from then on we'd go out to dinner or cook home. During the day, I would go to the gym in the morning and bust my *** studying English and enriching my vocabulary - I already speak English - and want to become an interpreter/translator. I also love crafts so I'd sit at home for a few hours and do my crochet/knit/embroidery and the days flew by. Now I'm here for a second visit, it's already been 3 weeks since I made it to our H-Town and I spent the first 2 weeks of my stay here just working on a cross stitch embroidery project, a set of 2 towels with our names on it. I finally finished it last night and gave to my boo boo as a late Valentine's Day gift. Last week I got a terrible flu as well, so I had to literally stay in bed for 2 full days. I had Panera chicken noodle soup, which was pretty good though
Next week he will restart his GMAT studies so I'll be lonely and bored again... planning on catching up with my Netflix series and study some more English.
Hey kiki. Voce fala ingles muito bem. Have any tips for my fiance about learning English? Did you take a class, or self study?
-
Hey guys, one question! Since K1 holders wont be able to work for 3 months, do you guys have any plan as of what you are gonna do in the meantime? Just sit at home or what?? Im sure I wont be able to do that so I was thinking of volunteering in a non-profit or something. Any thoughts on that??
Yeah I understand. My fiance will be spending most of her time studying English since she does not know any of it. I'm sure that is something you all do not have to worry about. But other than studying, I know she wants to blog or work online. I do get concerned she will go crazy being in the house all of the time. I will have to get her out of the house whenever I get home lol. I know what helps is family, my mom wants to take her to the salon or out to lunch etc. I know that will help her not feel so stuck at home and get her out and learning about the new country she is in as well as getting closer with my family.

Sorry just back from Philippines. Playing catch up.
This has been a long road since November filing but here we are.
Congrats!!!
How long did it take from interview to change from ready to issued?
Tyler
Thank You. The status was: Ready, Administrative Processing, Ready, Administrative Processing, Issued. Took a week and a half, but that was only because Brazil had a 3 day holiday last week. She picked up her passport with the Visa inside today. To see that Visa brought joy and relief.
-
Congrats...I can only imagine how amazing that must feel!
I just told my fiance the news. She said, "My heart is beating fast". Her grandmother was there and told me, "Prepare for the future very well, because she deserves a life of a queen" lol. This process is so long and we wait and wait and wait that I think when the time actually comes and we get approved, it feels unreal. We are both in a daze right now in almost disbelief....this is actually happening. It is like we have life in us again, we can start to plan with some certainty. Still will be 3-4 weeks before she arrives, and I will be counting every hour.
-
How long did it take for you to actually receive packet 3?
January 29th, so 18 days.
-
Hoooraaaaayyyyyy!!! We got approved at the interview!!!! Sooo happy , happy happy!!!!
Congrats! It makes me very happy to hear about you all getting approved. Feels like family now
I just checked the site this morning and our visa now states, "Issued"!!!! I am so excited! All she has to do is pick it up. My stress is finally gone after 3 months. What an adventure....and we are not even half way through it.
-
Thank you to this website! Without it, we wouldn't be where we are. Instead of 3,000+ miles away we are now 3 feet away!
Want to encourage you all to keep going! You WILL reach an end to your visa journey and you WILL get to be with your love!
That is so great to see. I tell my fiance all the time now that it is very difficult to be away from each other right now but when we finally do see each other, we will appreciate every single minute we have with each other because we know how it feels to be without. Everyone, never take your love for granted.
-
That was weird. After a day of almost complete silence on this forum, Jaime comes back and today this site is a lot more busier. Lol.
But in commemoration to all you young and older folks who have found that one love and have thrown all logic to the wind I salute you with this blast from the past:
I agree with everything you said. And I love that song, even though it is before my time. It always reminds me of the, "Groundhogs Day" movie. Hilarious.

Hi eveyone,
Im a December filer but have a question that has been answered at this forum but I cant find it anymore, lol. Once we have de NVC case number the status on the website should say "ready" before we can schedule the interview, is that correct?
Hey tab. Welcome. Wait until it reaches the consulate. After it says ready, it will be there a couple of days after that. Then schedule your interview. You do not have to wait for packet 3, this will save you 1-2 weeks of wait time. If you have any other questions, just ask. Good luck to you!
-
Remember, no one can tell anyone when they will get there visa. There has been some who received it in two days and others more than three months. Normal delivery is around 2-3 weeks after the interview if the sun, moon and mars are lined up so don’t run out and buy any airline tickets till your visa is in your hands.
10 working days.
Luckily when it is "Issued", my fiance can go up there and pick it up. We do not trust the mail system there, it has let us down a lot.
YW. I am sure you would be happy to give back. Can you answer the question posed by @tabsvilaca about what are the next steps for processing through Brazil? Thanks.
Of course, I love to help.
May 2017 AOS Filers
in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports
Posted
Hello everyone. I filed my AOS from a K1 Visa on May 1st, NOA date May 5th and Biometrics completed May 31st. I just received a change to my status saying, "Ready to be scheduled for an Interview". My question is... if I have that status, does that mean that we will have an interview? Is there a chance the interview could be waived or does this status mean it is certain?
