  1. My husband's green card process went way faster than we anticipated and we sent into the final documents to the NVC at the end of May. We got a letter a couple weeks later with an interview date scheduled at the Stockholm Embassy in July. Unfortunately we're out of the country and had to cancel it. The embassy didn't give us a lot of information about cancelling they just told us to contact them in mid-July to reschedule for august. Now when we are contacting them they are saying they still don't have the schedule yet and when they do they will see "if" they can accomodate us and because we rescheduled we could experience severe delays. Has anyone that has had to reschedule their interview experienced these severe delays? Do you just go to the bottom of the list for that embassy and they give you an interview if someone else cancels theirs for August? Or does anyone know how it works? We're stressing because we really need the interview in August as my husband potentially has a job offer for September.

  2. I have a question regarding Part 4, number 5 on the i-864 application. I am the petitioner for my spouse. I do not have enough funds to actually sponsor him so we are using my parents as sponsors. Anyway, the application asks what my country of domicile is and I'm a little unsure what to put. We maintain a residence in Ireland and Sweden at the moment. I have been living abroad for 5.5 years since we got married. Obviously our intent is to move to the US since I'm filing the application. Would it be a problem if I write my country of domicile is Ireland? I maintain a US bank account so i could use that as proof that I plan on returning. iS a bank account sufficient enough proof?

  3. I am currently filing out the I-864 for my husband's green card. We live abroad now and I don't earn enough money to be his sponsor so I plan on having my parents be sponsors. I realize I still must submit tax transcripts with my I-864. The question I have is we plan on submitting the application in the next couple weeks, but obviously taxes for the year 2017 are due April 15th. I just finished doing my taxes and I am about to mail them in, but it says it can take up to 6 weeks to receive a transcript if they are mailed in. We don't want to wait 6 weeks to submit the green card application so I was wondering if there's any way around this? Would it be acceptable to send a photo copy of the actual 2017 tax return I filled out? Or would they not accept that? I have the transcripts for 2016, 2015 and 2014 so I can submit those, but I'm not sure if they'd be picky about not having an actual transcript for 2017. Does anyone know if it's acceptable?

The same question applies for my parents, they just submitted their taxes for 2017 so we don't have the actual transcript for that yet. Can I send in a photo copy of the actual return for 2017, and then just submit transcripts for 2016 and 2015?

    I appreciate any help!

  4. Hi everyone!

My husband and I were literally about to put our application in the mail for the I-130 today but I noticed something that worried me a bit, we got a money order from CVS to pay the application fee when we were in the U.S. a couple weeks ago. I just realized that under the payment page on the USCIS it says:

    • Bank drafts, cashier's checks, certified checks, personal checks (See Check Instructions below), and money orders must be drawn on U.S. financial institutions and payable in U.S. funds.

Is this a problem? Can my money order come from CVS or is it invalid because it's not from a U.S. financial institution? We are stressing over this and afraid to send it in now and have it rejected, anyone with any experience with this or who might not we'd greatly appreciate an answer ASAP!

  5. In the first stage the filling of the I-130 you it its mostly about the American citizen. We sent both a copy of my husband's (the American) birth certificate and a copy of the first page of his US passport just in case. Is as another member answered the filling of the I-130 is more about establishing that you are american and eligible to apply for document for a family/husband to enter US. But you will need to send a copy of your marriage certificate were it says that you two are married.

Now depending on where you guys got married, if in Sweden then the marriage certificate is from Skatteverket and you can get in in English.

Later when you get to the NVC (National Visa Center) stage it will be more about your Swedish husband and then you will need a copy of his passport, that has to be stamped as original by the authority that issued the passport in Sweden it is the Police (Polisen). He will have to go there with its passport and ask for copies with stamps in english and they will help him. He will also need his Birth Certificate from Skatteverket (Swedish Tax office), he will need the extended version with information on his parents in english and also have it stamped and certified. This will be done by Skatteverket too. So you might as well start gathering those pappers too.

I could not upload a Word copy of the cover letter with info on what we sent But hopefully a p df works as well: You can modify it for your case. Hope it helps!

    Regards

Thank you so much! That really helps especially since it looks like you've done it from Sweden specifically. Are you the Swede? We got married in the U.S. so we will have our marriage certificate from there but I changed my last name through Sweden first and I believe it says I need to send proof o a last name change so i think that's the only thing I'd need to add to that I-130 packet that you did not have. Thank you so much again, that cover letter is really helpful!

  6. Hi guys,

My husband and I are just beginning the Green Card application process and we have begun filling out the I-130. I am the American citizen and my husband is Swedish. I have been reading differing information the topic, but when I look at the list of things to send with application it does not seem like we need to submit any sort of Identification documents for my husband. I only see that they would need either my U.S. Birth certificate or photo copies of my passport. Is this correct or do we need to be sending in my husband's birth certificate as well with the I-130?

Also, if anyone has any useful tips about things that have held them up with the I-130 or any information at all it's greatly appreciated! We're worried about submitting things incorrectly.
