I work for a bank, and we require SS or Tax ID number to be on the account. It is required by the US Patriot Act, not by the bank policy. You can apply for a tax id number, but it takes about 2 wks.

We got approved 8/16/06!

Why do you have to wait on medical exam?

I can't believe it! Finally! Checked the website and we were approved 8/16/06. Now the fun part begins

You do not need a US police certificate. I also was in the USA and was wondering the same, so I contacted the embassy, they said I need every other country where I lived, but NOT USA.
Good luck!

Hi,
I will also be going through Kiev for my K-1. I have several friends that have gone through there, all say that the staff is very helpful, and professional. Nobody had any problems, one girl got her K-1 visa two different times, sponcored by the same guy, they did not even question what happened the first time (they ended up not getting married first time). Anyways, this will be my first K-1 interview there, but I have received my student and my work visa through Kiev, no problems! I would not worry, if everything is in order, your fiancee should get her visa with no problems. They will ask how you met, and your fiancee will need to bring proof of continuing relationship. Most of my friends' interview lasted about 2 min. Good luck to you and your fiancee!

Thank you for the replies! And guess what! I just checked the web site, and they got it, they must have just updated it because I checked an hour ago and it was nothing.

Hello,
We send our imra RFE back to California office on 7/7/06, and they still have not confirmed receiving it. It was picked up on 7/10/06, but the message has not changed, and we have not received e-mail stating they received it. I guess they have not put it in the computer yet.
I was just wondering how long did it take for everybody else in California office?
Thanks!

We got ours, NOA1 date 5/26/06. No e-mails, and no touches though, I hope they are keeping track!

Congrats!

H-1B visa allows for dual intent, which means this visa holder may proceed with immigration process to adjust status. Normally this is done through employer. If she comes on H-1B, she has to work for the company, does she intend to do that? If she comes for work, and will work for the employer that filed for her, she may get married and then adjust status. Her primary visit to US has to be employment.
But if she gets in the country on H1b and does not go to work, and gets married - that's a no-no.
I am here on H-1b and met my fiance while here. The law does alow us to get married, and then for me to adjust status.

1. She will not be able to change her name without marriage certificate. I work for a bank and we definately require name to match her passport or drivers licence. Plus, to change name on drivers licence you need to show either marriage certificate, or a court order, otherwise they go by your passport name.
2. After they get married, she can apply for AOS using her new married name.
I would wait until they are married to change her name, a lot easier, and with the complicated process of immigration, why complicate things more?
Good luck to your wife's friend!

Yea, us too! Got touched 3 days in a row and on Saturday! They must be doing something!

Finally! Got our NOA1 in the mail today. By the way, they delivered to PO Box address (on the form we put PO Box / Street address) and they sent it to the box, which is a relief cause we are moving. I guess now we can call and change our street address. They also cashed the check today. Now the wait begins!

Congrats on Noa1!

I am here on vaid H1b. I know that we can get married now and then I can apply for AOS based on marrige. But I have to travel to my home country to take care of some stuff, and because we will be moving to a different town I will not be able to keep my job, thus I can't come back on my H1b work visa. That is why we chose to file for Fiancee visa. IF I DON't go home now, I will not be able to go for a long while. I woun't go to detail, but it has to do with exit visas and residency stams from MY gov't. I would rather go now, before I am married and take care of all of that. I still have time until my trip, and now we have I-129f pending. If some things change (meaning my stuff at home), we are going to cancell I-129f, get married and then file I-130 and AOS. I hope I didn't confuse you with all this.
1. To answer your earlier question: if anyone has actually done it, I don't know, but I may have to attempt it, because I don't have a choice.
2. But people have actualy done this: Cancelled pending I-129f for fiance, got married in fiance's home country, filed I-130 and I-129f for spouse.
If you get married in Canada, then you have to cancell you current I-129f for fiance, and will have to file I-130 and I-129f for spouse. But he will not be able to return to the States with you until the process is complete.

Yeah we put on ours that hes here right now as well. But won't it look "fishy" if we file for I-130s after cancelling I-129's...can't they use that against us and say hes obviously here to marry you which is illegal
I don't know, but there are people that cancell I-129f for fiance and then go to fiance's home country, get married, come back and refile I-129f for a spouse. Is it not the same thought process? I mean, they could always say - well, you got married. What if you just could not wait?
-
We were thinking we could cancell I-129f before sending I-130. I don't think it should affect anything, on I-129f we already put that I am currently in US, so they know I am here.
-
We are in the same situation. I am the fiancee
and currently in USA on a work visa. My fiance filed i-129f, and I was planning to go to my home country for the interview, then get back and get married. But now we are not sure of how long it will take, so the back-up plan is to get married while I am still here and then file I-130. I didn't find any info that this was illegal or impossible.

Yea, I am also waiting on Texas NOA1. I just would feel so much better if I knew they got it and assigned a case number. I have been checking VJ's timelines to see when others got it, seems like Texas just takes a while.
-
I-129 is for nonimmigrant work visa, a different form from I-129f - fiance visa.
-
Have a question: I filed i-29f for fiance, but now have to move, and have not gotten NOA1 yet. I know I will need to change the address, but can't do it yet because I don't have case number. Will post office forward NOA1? If not, how will I know when they got it? (i guess if the check is cashed..) but the case number?
Anybody had to deal with that? Thanks!

All they need to know is when you will be available for work. You can tell them that you expect to receive your EAD soon, and would be ready to start sometime in July. Good luck on your job search!

I agree with Luis&Laura. Is it our fault they don't have the new form yet?!

We put -"PO Box #/Physical Address"- on our form, and we got the mail to PO box no problem. Both addresses appeared just like we put on the form, but Post Office deliverd to the PO Box.
