Hi,
Not sure if this is where i am meant to post this topic but looking for input...
for background reference;
I moved to the U.S through a k1 visa, now have a green-card (currently conditions removal is pending)
but my husband and I are now considering moving (back) to Australia. He is a u.s citizen/resident so we have started looking at the filing process of the Australian partner visa.My question is; if his visa is approved and we decide to move our lives to australia, do i have the legally abandon my residency here in the u.s and reapply all over again if we ever decide to move back to the u.s? or is there any other ways to hold on to residency? i have seen there is a re-entry permits but they only last 2 years and have read that they are only used for those just travelling and not actually living back home.
if you have done the same or has experience moving back and forth, any input would be much appreciated!

I had my appointment for the biometrics yesterday (adjusting my status from K1 for the greencard) i went in and stood in the line to get a number for the appointment for an hour (the place was packed and the appointment time you get doesnt matter) i got the receptionist desk and my number 1 mistake is that they told me to take out my nose piercing, i stood there for 5 minutes trying to take it out but i cant do it without pliers and then my mistake number 2 was the lady said "your passport name is different to the name on your form, do you have your marriage certificate?" and i didnt think to bring it with me because the form said to bring your passport for ID, i assumed they would check some online system to see the two last names but nope, they just staple a form and stamp it and check your name matches your form.
so i was told to see the ASC manager and she said "come back between 8am and 2pm monday to thursday"...
long story short, dont turn up with facial piercings and bring your marriage certificate to your appointment.

my husband and i got married a month ago and we sent in the application to Chicago, IL (USA) a week and a half ago..
my questions for anyone thats been through the process or knows;
how long until did it take for them to notify you of it being received (through the electronic notification) ?how long did it take to process?
how long from when you sent in the application to approval date did it take?
the USCIS website processing time date for Chicago says 'July 2015'kinda worries me to think that they are processing applications from 10 months ago.

im getting married in March which will be 82 outve 90 days into my fiancee visa and have to adjust my status to permanent resident, how soon after getting married do we have to send in the forms? i am getting married on a saturday so I dont think i can go get my certificate until the following monday which we will need for the permanent residency forms, does it matter the time length after you get married and do they need your adjustment forms before that 90 days ?

I recieved an email with all the information before i made the US travel doc account but in it they told me once i had made the account and filled out all the information to email them and they sent back a reply with a interview date
Hi guys
I have checked NVC case status and it has changed from in transit to consulate to ready. I am still yet to receive any information regarding the packet 3 etc.... I filled out the ds-160 and paid the visa fee on ustravel website but still can't schedule a interview. Do they schedule the interview date? Or can you schedule a date yourself?
Also should I get my medical and police check done now?
Any suggestions is much appreciated
Thanks! -
So on Tuesday i finally moved to the U.S!
Applied for the petition December 29th 2014, approved June 25th 2015, interview and visa approval October 27th 2015, moved December 15th 2015.At the airline check in desk they checked my visa, customs in melbourne they just asked me about moving and joked that i looked too young to get married, at border security/ LAX customs i gave the guy my package, he opened it, stamped one page and said congrats (asked when i was getting married and reminded me that if i change my mind and dont get married i had to book a return flight) and put the paper work to the side and i walked off to my connecting flight as usual.
very simple and easy process!

My fiancée and I didn't receive a letter, the next I heard was an email from my embassy with instructions to prepare for the interview, I'm not sure whether they even sent one, don't be worried, it's just a waiting game.

i really wish i could bring my dog but i just dont think he will get the permit to come with me, he is 14+ years old and its just easier if he stays with my parents but it already breaks my heart knowing i have to say goodbye and not sure if ill ever see him again because he's getting old

i'm leaving Australia on the 15th!
what should i expect when i arrive in LA?
do i have to go through a specific line?
is it just a normal customs (through a window/booth type thing to do finger prints) ?
do you have another interview or does it depend on the customs officer if they want to question you further?i have given myself a 4 hour lay over before i go to NY just in case but id love to know what to expect!

I wont be covered under my Fiancee's employment healthcare..
Has anyone dealt with getting their own healthcover?
Who did you go with?
Did you get it before you left Australia or Once you became a Permanent Resident? -
So I was approved on tuesday morning! yay lol
but now i have more questions that the interviewer didnt tell me, he just told me to look for the answers online...
1. what do I do about healthcare? - do i have to get travel insurance for the 90 days and then get healthcare once im married?
2. i'm on medication, do i get as many packets of my medication as i can from the chemist before i leave? do i get healthcare and see a doctor asap ?Anyone know where i can find all this information?

You're not the first to be confused by that!
You don't need the 3kg Express envelope, passports are sent back via Toll Couriers
Maybe instead of just not mentioning it, the Consulate should explicitly say that it's not required. Let's hope they read Vj!
thankyou!
yes they should definitely state it!

What country or consulate?
Sydney, Australia

i have all my forms and everything ready but i'm not sure about the 3KG Express Envelope??
When they sent the email link with all the documents you need done for the interview, at the end of the K-1Fiancee steps it didnt say anything about the envelope, it said it as the last step for all the other visas though (family based, employment based, diversity)
If i need it i will need to get it tomorrow!!

i have considered naturalization but reading the laws of becoming a u.s citizen and having to renounce my australian citizenship worries me, i have read that its technically not true and there is no formal information on having to physically give up citizenship, is there any things i have to worry about? will i have trouble moving back and forth?
