  1. Thanks for your details, so you have the confirmation (may be from your lawyer ?) that they don't need a certificate from abroad ?

The RFE notice date says Dec. 23 and I was given until March 17 to send the evidence, but I don't know if they give everyone 2.5 to 3 months to send this in. It's great to know you don't need a certificate from abroad. I was looking into requesting one.

  2. Yes indeed, I checked out your timeline and would like to ask you this : did they specify in the RFE how much time they gave you to send the document they requested ? because I will be out of the country for one month from next week and I have not received the RFE yet.My last bio. was on 01/19/2010. Thanks for your help

I got the same RFE for the same reason. I have only been in the US for 1.5 years when I received that. So, I went to the local PD here and got the police background check (paid $5 and waited 5 minutes) for the 1.5 years that I have been here. I didn't move to a different county so I only needed one. I sent that in to USCIS and got my case approved the same week! They don't need your police clearance abroad unless it clearly says so.

    Hope that helps.

    Good luck! Cheers..

  3. According to your timeline, your process concerned I-485 (AOS), you didn't have an interview before they adjudicated your case ? so you just sent the police clearance to the USCIS Center that posted you the RFE ?

  4. Hello NCWife,

Thank you very much for replying spontaneously to my question. It relieves me from the worry to have to deal with my country where I lived before coming to the U.S 3.5 years ago.Your answer is a BIG plus !

  5. Hello Ivalleh, Thank you for taking time to reply to my question. The reason I mentioned about police clearance of the country outside the U.S that you lived in the past 5 years because I read it on a lot of different immigration websites...and if it is true, it is more complicated, because once I have it, to have to have it translated from french to english !. I would be great to hear from your lawyer about this matter. Please let me know about the answer.

I am sorry to hear that you have to go in person to Chicago for the document,I hope you don't have to.

Please, let's update each other on our situation and good luck to you for the process. How long since the 2nd biometrics date for you to receive the NOA stating that you need police clearance ? They asked you to send to the USCIS by postmail or to bring to local field office ? did you receive a letter asking for interview ?

    Hi there,

This is what the NOA says: "Please provide a letter issued by the local law enforcement agency (County Sheriff's Office or Local Police Dept.) indicating the applicant has "no criminal record." The record search should include all the aliases (all other names) the applicant may have used in the past. A separate letter is required for each law enforcement district in which the applicant has resided during the previous five years."

I'm not sure if you need to provide a certification of good conduct from France. I've been outside of the US for 2 months now, but I don't think I need to provide a certificate from the country I'm in. I may contact a lawyer I consulted a while ago in the US. I will let you know if I do so.

Going back to my original question, I called the Illinois State Police and you can request a certificate of good conduct by mail. I wouldn't have to go there in person.

Good luck with the whole process.

  6. Hello, I am in the same situation : fingerprints rejected twice.I have not received the NOA for police clearance yet. As you did already receive it,do they ask police clearance for the last 5 years in all places where you lived within the U.S ? or they did not specify "within the U.S" ?

As I lived in France in the first of my last five years, I need to get it from france. Thanks for your reply

    Hello,

After filing my I-751, I did the biometrics twice and my fingerprints were rejected as illegible. I got an I-797 notice of action asking for a certification of good conduct for every district I lived in for the past 5 years. I've lived in LA for 4.4 years and can get done done in person, but I also need one from Chicago because I lived there before moving to LA. I called the Chicago Police Dept. and they said I need to do it in person, which would be very hard to do. The receptionist put me through to her supervisor and I left a message, but I don't know if she'll reply.

Has anyone been in this situation? I can't really afford to fly to Chicago.

    Thanks.

  7. For reason the technician gave me is I have very thin prints on my fingers (so not enough crease I guess) that show on the picture. :(

She also told me to go the city police to get a police clearance certificate and prepare to send them in case received a rejection letter again.

That seems odd! I guess you can wait and see if it goes through or you receive a third biometrics notice. Did she give you a reason why it will not work?
  8. Thanks very much SM&LP for your reply.I hope what you said for the second time bio. is true also for my case. You gave me hope ! Let cross the fingers !

I had the biometrics for second time. And I was also told that if the first time failed the second one will also. But it did not. As a matter of fact I got today the green card.

I was told that if the second time did not work I was supposed to get certified fingerprints in all the places I had leave.

  9. Hi everybody,

I am an October's filer for ROC and just did my biometrics today at the ASC for the second time. One month ago, I received the second biometrics appointment letter stating that my first biometrics could not be read by the FBI and then gave the appointment date for a second biometrics.

The biometrics technician ,while doing my fingerprints, told me today that she is pretty sure that this time will not work neither.

Did somebody have this kind of experience that the second fingerprint could not be read by the FBI and in this case, what will happen next ?

I would appreciate if somebody would share his or her experience and knowledge on the matter.

    Thanks.

  12. Is the DORA process even open anymore? I heard it was closed or done. :/

Its still optional. I personally would advise against it. But we've had serious problems with the Dallas office. Given the choice I would have gladly filed via the Chicago lockbox. IMO the Dallas field office is full of morons.

Hi all Dora filers in the summer period... We filed for DORA in Dallas Office on July/26, had the biometrics in October 23 and now still waiting...waiting...and wating... what's going on ? how about all your guys ?

  13. Please, does someone on the site know a good immigration lawyer in the Dallas area to advice me ?

    Thanks - Caro
