  1. Hello everybody!

I recently received my K1 visa and I couldn't be happier!

My fiancé and I got almost everything planned for the wedding as well and are now thinking about how to proceed after... I know I will not be allowed to work until I get my EAD... so we figured it would be smart to use that time to get my medical certification done (I'm a medical student right now in Germany and I will graduate at the end of this year).

So my question is, am I allowed to take the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Exams) without having my EAD / permission to work? I have been looking on the internet for hours but I can't seem to find a definite answer... taking an official exam like that is not really working I guess but I am unsure whether taking exams is allowed or whether I have to wait until I get my EAD...

In case you are not familiar with the USMLE, one is not required to take any classes or sign up at a college/university to take these tests, one just applies online, pays the fee, schedules a test date and then takes the test in one of the test centers in the US. The USMLE consists of 3 seperate exams, 2 on the computer and 1 with "patients" (actors). Each test takes one day.

It would be fantastic if anyone knew whether or not it is legal to take these exams during AOS, while still waiting for the EAD/green card, or if someone actually went through this process themselves and would be willing to help out a newbie here :-)

    Best regards,

    Himbeere
