  1. Hey everybody!

I have a general question, and I'm trying to reach out to see if there is anybody else in the same boat. I had my interview at the MTL consulate on Sept 21, and there have been absolutely no updates to my case since then- no notification about it being in AP, no additional requests for any other documentation. I'm trying to remain patience, but this process has spread me thin.

Has anyone gone weeks since their interview without ever getting any updates? How long did your process take after your interview?

  2. My fiance contacted the congressman because we were growing frustrated over the lack of answers, and quite frankly, the failed repeated attempts to contact the consulate with no response. I was told by the consulate a week ago that my case was being processed, but there hasn't been any update on my case since the 21st of Sept, which was exactly 2 weeks ago. I'm frustrated with the consulate because I am a natural born Canadian citizen, and I provided what was requested the day of the interview, with no further requirements since then. I could understand that my case would be taking some time if it was in AP, but it never has been.

Also, I'm not sure which site you are using where something is posted on the right? I'm getting information directly from the Montreal consulate website: http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/visas/visas/immigrant-visas/visa-adjudication/if-a-visa-is-approved.html

I've sent them inquires, my fiance has sent inquires. We get the standard automated email message back. The last two inquires I have made have gone unanswered.

  3. I am a Canadian citizen by birth. My biggest concern is that my status hasn't been update, nor does it look like it has even been looked at since my interview date. It's still saying ready for documents, fingerprints, etc. If you have attended your interview, check your status after two business days. I'm beyond perturbed with the MTL consulate and am trying to explore lawyer options. I've contacted congress and the senate at this point.

  4. Hey everybody! I feel like I am at my breaking point and need to have a little rant so please bear with me. I am a Canadian citizen and my fiance is American. I had my interview at the Montreal consulate on Sept 21, 2015 and haven't received any update on my case since. The consular officer told me I would have my visa 1-2 weeks after my interview, which was approved, and no request for additional documents has been given. We have contacted the consulate, the congressman of PA, my Member of Parliament, lawyers, but have gotten nowhere. It's extremely frustrating because like others, we went ahead and planned our wedding in what we thought was more than enough time from the time we started this crazy process (we booked our wedding for Oct 11, a year after we filed), given the consulate and other sites have said the entire process takes only 8-10 months, as long as you don't run into any issues. The consulate's website even says it's takes "approximately 5 business days" for them to process visas upon approval.

Suffice to say, I need a lot of positive vibes, and will of course be sending those in similar situations positive vibes as well.

I can't believe it takes so long to process a few pieces of paperwork. I brought my fiance's letter of employment, proof of domicile and bank records (which they never asked me for). They obtained copies of my passport, birth certificate, my DS-160, affidavit of support, and my fiance's current income tax report.

The most upsetting part was we were expecting our families and his children (from a previous marriage) to be involved in our wedding, and it is just too hectic working around so many people's schedules, and my fiance is losing out on a lot of time for work trying to make all of our plans work out.

Yeah, it's just depressing. Rant done.

  5. I can only really share my interview experience and hope yours goes as smoothly. Like you, I was stressing over questions (I searched multiple sites trying to get a sense of what questions they ask). My fiance was interrogating me the whole drive to the consulate! The truth of the matter is, they want to gauge your confidence level, and how honest your answers are. I was asked the very basic of questions- how did we meet, how did we become a couple, have we ever been married or arrested, what we do for a living. My fiance has three children from a prior marriage, and the CO tried to stump me by saying "your fiance has two kids?" and I answered "he has three" without even having to think about it, and I think that honestly was what made my interview go smoothly. I didn't have to think about my answers, and they weren't able to stump me. My interview took 10 minutes from the time I was called up, to the time I was approved.

Only you know how strong your relationship is, and how well you know your partner. As hard as it is to think otherwise, look at the interview more so like someone just basically inquiring about your relationship like they are meeting you for the first time, and not as an interrogation....hopefully that makes sense.

Good luck to everyone awaiting their interviews!

  6. Hi Zuzie,

I am a Canadian citizen and my fiance is American, so we are in a similar situation. We also started dating in 2012, and applied for our K-1 visa back in October 2014. Our visa was initially accepted in November, and like you I was hoping the situation would be a smooth and quick one (so many postings seem to make it sound like such an easy and quick process). The time period from the initial acceptance to the time you receive your letter from the consulate to schedule your interview takes the longest time unfortunately (we're talking +6 months!). I just attended my interview in Montreal this past Monday, making it 11 months since we originally filed. Now I am trying to patiently wait for my visa to be delivered where I can pick it up.

Mind you, everyone's story is different, but it can (and will) feel like a grueling process! My best piece of advice I can give you is keep organized, and make sure you keep EVERY piece of paperwork handy. One thing I found that was especially frustrating (and I tell you this because we are in the same situation) was conflicting info on the consulate website, and what is posted in the letter your receive from the consulate.

If you have any questions about the process, and what to expect down this crazy road, don't hesitate to ask! Best of luck!
