I was in a similar situation myself and opted for 3 yrs. It was a bit more of a hassle to gather together all of the marriage evidence, but worth it to get the end of my immigration journey that much quicker. Given how much the USCIS rules have changed over time (and continue to change) I decided to just go for it. Now that I am a citizen I am very glad I went down the 3 yr path rather than waiting the extra time. Whatever you decide to do I wish you the best of luck on this last leg of your journey.
I have been reading and observing some of the post in this US Citizenship forum. Right now I am confused thinking whether it is a better option to file for citizenship based on 3 yrs marriage or just wait after 5 yrs. The reason is I thought that this citizenship stage should be more simple than ROC stage (for the 3 yrs application). We don't have to send evidences like we do in ROC. Apparently I found some people submitted or got requested by USCIS to have to submit more papers than what are asked in the N-400 application form instruction.
So my question is, to those who have gotten their US citizenship without any bad record in their background and have simple case, do you think it is better to apply based on 3 yrs or 5 yrs to avoid all the hassles? -
I received my passport card today and CON in two separate envelopes. Good to have 3 items showing my status (all now safely stored in separate secure locations) rather than just the one as a PR. I am so relieved this whole process is over after a long 10 years...

I had my interview a couple of weeks back at the Fairfax VA office which included same day oath. They do same day oaths only for Fairfax county residents who are not changing their name (they checked both items for me before offering same day oath ceremony).

Updating Penguin - I had my interview this morning and same day oath in the afternoon (Fairfax, VA office does this for VA residents). By a very fortunate stroke of luck this coincided with a brief visit from my parents from Australia so they were very proud to attend the ceremony with me. Now on to submitting the passport application tomorrow.

Hello everyone -
It is been more than 3 months that I did my fingerprinting - it was somewhere around April 25th and I've been in line for interview since than. My status changed I guess the next day and after a week or in the beginning of May I received a yellow letter. It is almost being more then 4 months in total, I sent my application mid of March and still I haven't receive my interview date. Should I call them now or request an info pass? what is an info pass? and how can I get one? is it even helpful or not? or I should just keep waiting for the letter? Thanks very much for your help in advance.
Sounds like we applied around the same time, mid March, and I just received my interview letter less than a week ago, also for Fairfax, so hang in there - I'm sure your interview letter will arrive very soon!

Don't worry if you don't have any joint accounts as long as you can submit separate account statements sharing the same address to prove you live together. You can also ask friends and/or family to write affidavits, send recent pictures of you together and with friends and family.

Penguin - looks like Congress is not the only organization dragging its feet in Washington! 4 months from fingerprinting to Interview is way out of line!
Thanks -- I was really beginning to wonder if my file had been lost or if there was an issue with the background check. Guess I'll find out for sure at the interview. Now I can finally brush up on my civics -- I knew it all backwards within days of my fingerprints appointment when I was given the study guide. Didn't anticipate such a long time before the interview but I guess the USCIS were on their summer vacation.

I received my interview letter today (4 months from receipt date) and I need some help with the request for 'proof of marital union' (I'm a 3 yr applicant). I have life insurance, car insurance, & county property tax records in both our names, but we have no joint bank accounts, utility bills, mortgage (condo is owned outright) or kids yet. I have our tax transcripts showing married & marriage certificate, but should I bring other items with both names like international airline itineraries or copies of both drivers licenses showing same address?
Appreciate any advice the forum can offer - thanks!

I received a yellow letter requesting I bring my state issued driver's license or state issued photo identification card and all passports and travel documents (including expired and current) issues to me by any government.
I have not received an interview letter yet, but I will be taking these items with me. I had already planned to take my driver's license & current passport but in light of this letter I'll be taking my previous (expired) passport as well as it contains all my earlier H1-B visa's & DV (I was a lottery winner in 2006).
I have visa's from other countries in the expired passport as well (10 - 15 years ago I traveled a lot in Europe) -- will the IO be interested in any of these?

Thank-you! I sent only what the N-400 requested, nothing extra. After my biometrics & prior to receiving my appointment letter I received a yellow letter requesting I bring my prior passports & state ID which I did but the IO did not ask to see either. The appointment letter comes with a document checklist that will ask for proof of marital union, which is where you'll bring things like your mortgage statement, bills, insurance, etc. to show you're still married & together. This is separate to the tax documents which you'll provide with your N-400 application.
