  1. Forgive me if I've put this in the wrong discussion.

    My husband is a Permanent Legal Resident of the U.S. and a Malaysian citizen; I am his American wife. He's let his passport expire and I'm getting really confused about helping him get it renewed. From my research, it seems he needs his birth certificate, which he does not have; he was born in the mid-60s, in Penang, so it's not so easy for him to obtain a copy without traveling to Penang. Is it possible to get his passport renewed without it? Is there any easy way for him to get a copy of his birth certificate? I don't know if it's relevant, but he's been in the U.S. since '92, and he's been a permanent resident for the last 12 years.

    Also, we live in Oregon--does he have to travel to the Malaysian Embassy in Los Angeles to renew?
