  1. Hey guys and gals, I've been following all along and am happy to see all the progress, but I need some advice. We filed on 2 Feb. 2010, and our case was touched on 26 June, and that's it. No special circumstances to our case, biometrics was done timely, we've just been sitting back watching everyone get satisfaction(or atleast some action) but we've heard nothing. I'd like to know how you suggest we proceed. Should I call USCIS, e-mail VSC, contact my congressman, or just wait it out? Just kidding about the waiting thing. What action seems to get the ball rolling? Any help is appreciated.

  2. I've been flying Northwest for a long time, usually twice a year from Tampa, Fl. to Manila and back, and have gotten good use out of the frequent flyer miles. There seems to always be award flights available. I highly recommend you sign up for NWAs Worldperks membership. It didn't cost anything and it's saved me a bunch. You also get miles credited from other airlines that are part of the Worldperks club, such as United, Delta, KLM, and others. When you're a member and sign into their websight to get flight costs, you get better results. Even though we have the visa in hand, my fiance' won't be coming until January. I just got her ticket for $558.00, one way Manila to Tampa. How can that be beat?

  3. Hey guys and gals, I'd like to congratulate those of you that have been approved and wish luck to those still waiting. My fiance' was approved for her K-1 visa yesterday(Nov.16) and reported smooth sailing thru the entire interview process. I feel she was lucky, as she arrived at the embassy late, at 8:00 AM, and due to miscommunication, she downloaded and printed out the DS156 but wrote in the information by hand. I certainly don't recommend anyone else do those things, but it shows that not everything is written in stone. She said that she was also told that some forms from my side of the operation were missing but she could not remember what they were. Knowing her as I do, I suspect that she just wanted me to feel a little bad for not doing something right but know that she was able to take care of it for us. See, we have been in our relationship for 17 years, and know each other well. When the immigration officer learned this fact he simply said "You need wait no more", and gave her approval. He then asked her some questions regarding the long term of our pre-marital relationship, just out of curiosity, he assured her. We had to overcome some unique obstacles in the course of the visa process, but have passed this one finally! BTW, she said the look on the window clerks face was priceless when asked for photos and letters, as she had a huge album and a stack of letters saved throughout our 17 years! Good luck all, and thanks for the help! Particular thanks to Malambing and to Uling, a welcome source of fact-based information among a sea of speculation!

  4. I'm sorry I can't help you with more accurate info. But in case you haven't seen this link yet, it might be worth taking a loot at it. http://travel.state.gov/visa/reciprocity/C...der/J/Japan.htm

I appreciate your help Mew, I've read that site over and over and it only seems to tell me that a Police Clearance Letter is available from Japan. I've read thru the pertinent info on the Embassy website, the Dept. of State, the USCIS site, and nothing tells me how to get this. The Japanese Embassy says they won't give the clearance without a request letter from the US Embassy. The US Embassy in Manila has given me and my fiance' three different answers. She is following the most likely course of action and going to the Embassy tomorrow. I had been told that when I had a case number they would issue the request letter. They then told me I had to fax a request to them(US Embassy) for the request letter, I did this and got nothing, no response. When I called again to see if they ever even received the fax, I was told that my fiance' had to go in person to the embassy to request the letter. My fiance' was also told on the phone that she could not get the request letter until we had an interview date. My fiance' and I have had similar dealings with the Embassy throughout our 17 year relationship, and unfortunately, this is par for the course. I would really appreciate the experience of someone who has done this already. Mike

  5. I've gotten different answers from the Embassy. They have my approval from NVC at the Embassy, we have a case number, but no packet or interview date yet. I want to get started on the request for the police clearance from Japan ASAP, as I see it takes a couple of months. Please, if someone has done this recently, can you tell me what you had to do to get a request letter from the US Embassy? Thanks, Mike

  6. VJers;

My fiance' is currently waiting for the packet to arrive. She will need a police clearance from Japan. I had her call the U.S. Embassy to request a letter from them to send the Japanese Embassy requesting said clearance. She got nowhere with them, and yes we have a case number which was given. I'm wondering if this request letter comes in the packet, or when are we supposed to obtain the letter? The Japanese won't issue the clearance without a request from the U.S. Embassy, and they(US Embassy) had told us we couldn't get that until we had a case number. Has anyone recently had to get the clearance from Japan for their Filipina fiance'? Was the request letter in the packet? How long did it take to get the clearance from Japan? Thanks for any and all help. Mike

  7. MLT,

A week or two after NOA2, you will receive a letter via snail mail from the Bureau of Consular Affairs. Manila case number will be indicated in that letter.

Watch the time and your mailbox! :clock:

Thanks, PW! I'm heading over to Quezon City in about three weeks and I'd like to have all my ducks in a row. This police clearance from Japan could be the sticker, so I want to request it as soon as I can.

  8. hi PW! i got my case number, MNL2006712XXX yaaaay! ill check within the week if they have sent it out yet. :)

Yna: Congratulations on your progress! It seems as if we're on about the same timeline. I got my NOA2 on 28 July and the e-mail saying it was sent out, but how did you get your case number. My fiance' will require a police clearance from Japan and I need a case number to get the request letter from the embassy. I'd like to get this in motion ASAP, of course, so your help would be appreciated.

  9. Mike,

A police certificate may be applied for at the Japanese Embassy in Manila. The requirements are:

    1) Letter request from the US Embassy

    2) Original passport of applicant

    Application schedule: M-F 8:40 - 12:30 pm; 2:00 - 4:30 pm

According to the Japanese Embassy, processing takes 2-3 months. Maybe what you can do is to call the US Embassy and ask for that letter request as early as now. The girl at the Japanese Embassy said that a letter request from the applicant herself is not acceptable.

For more info, Japanese Embassy tel. no. is 834-7514.

Thanks for the info, it's what I already figured, but the embassy won't issue the request letter without a case number for the application. So I wait.

  10. Hello All:

I've been searching for an hour or more but can't find the right info, hopefully some who have passed before can illuminate the correct path for me. My fiance' will require a police clearance from Japan. I believe that I understand the instructions for obtaining this will come with the packet. Is there any way to expedite this? Is it certain to come before the interview? Can anyone tell me what they had to do to get this from Japan and how long it took. Thank you very much for any help.

    Mike
