thebulletin, I just noticed that you applied for both the Passport Book and Passport Card - did you only have to submit one passport photo?
Good question..... the post office only asked for one photo so that's what I gave them. I'll let you know once I hear back on the passport card, maybe that's why I haven't gotten it yet?

As for me am doing passport book and card. So my check should be $140 for both then $25 check for execution fee?

I just took my checkbook to the post office and wrote it out on the spot. You can only use a debit card for the Department of State but the acceptance facility may take credit card (the post office does).

NC back in pristine condition! Still waiting on passport card so I'm not sure if I should be reddening my timeline.... but doing it anyways. Pretty psyched to have this whole process completed. Now onto updating SS and GOES!

American passport!! This is pretty surreal
For those contemplating expediting, I can't recommend it unless you have a strict deadline since my passport did not seem to get processed any faster than others who did not expedite.

Thanks Kash2011! Just got out of 500 Pearl St courthouse. 158 people from 48 countries! Good luck to all those still waiting for their oath ceremony!
For NYC filers: Got to courthouse at 9:55am for a 10am requested arrival and waited 15 minutes to go through security. You must turn off you phone and relinquish to security officer as you enter the courthouse (all electronics will be confiscated). Processing is done on a first come first serve basis. By 11:05 all processing was finished. We are allowed to go to the cafeteria until 11am if processing finishes early. We waited for the judge and at 12 we had a 15 minute ceremony. The speech was very emotional and so was the pledge of allegiance. Once the ceremony is over they hand out the certificates one by one (order seemed random). Once you have your certificate you are free to go. Voting registration was right at the exit. I was out by 12:30 even after voting registration. 2.5 hours was well inside my 4 hour expectation.

So I had my interview on December 4 and the officer said he was recommending me for approval. Fast forward to today, December 29, when I got the email that I've been put "in line for oath ceremony". How much longer is this going to take?! I guess the January ceremony is out for me.
January is definitely still possible. I think for me it took about 50 days from interview to receiving my oath letter and it took about the same time for me to be put in line as you. Because of the holidays and my name change, my ceremony ended up being 2 weeks+ from my oath letter but most people usually have the ceremony scheduled <10 days. I think there was actually somebody who got a letter for next day ceremony. The waiting game is torture but you're on the last stretch! Good luck

I'm finally off the waiting list and have an oath ceremony scheduled! The timing is a bit bad since I'm going on a week long trip next weekend. Following the thread it looks like most people are getting appointments for ~10 days out (which would be in the middle of my trip), anybody have a longer period out from getting the oath letter? I know I'll find out in a few days in the mail but I'm super nervous now. I want to avoid taking a red eye to and fro for just the oath ceremony.

Wow that seems crazy long. So happy to hear that you're finally swearing in, congratulations! I guess I'll just wait patiently.... it looks like most people in NYC get oath ceremony within 45 days of interview but with my name change it could definitely take longer, will start to panic after 90 days. Thanks!

Any updates from the others on the oath ceremony? I had my interview on 11/3 and requested a name change. Online status changed to in line on 11/16 but haven't heard anything since. Almost at the one month mark and want to manage my expectations because the waiting game is torture. Thanks.

I did my interview this morning and I believe it went well. I was scheduled for 8am; I arrived at the office at 7:50 since I lived 7 minutes from the USCIS office. I went through the normal security screening and I was instructed to go upstairs. I gave the receptionist my interview notice, she instructed me to have a seat in the lobby and wait for my name to be called. Exactly at 8:30am my name was called, the IO was very polite and friendly. I was sworn in; she then asked for my Texas DL and GC. I told her that I do not have my TX DL since I just moved here in April, but I have my DL from the previous State I was living in. She accepted it, then proceeded to go over the application.
Afterwards, she began with the reading and writing portion of the testing. I read "Who lives in the White House?" and then I write "The President lives in the White House." I was asked six questions:
- Who is the Governor of your State?
- What movement tried to end racial discrimination?
- Where is the Statue of Liberty?
- Name two national U.S. holidays
- Who was the first President?
- What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?
She said congratulations, you passed. However, I was disheartened because I was not approved on the spot. I asked her why, she said that they going to do another background check just to make sure that everything is good. She said that they do not approved on the spot anymore, but my gut was telling otherwise; I even asked about the same day oath ceremony and she gave the same response. I am not sure if that is her way of doing things or Field Office way of doing things. She said that I should hear something back within 3 weeks
So, just when I thought that my journey was going to be over soon, it does not look that way at all even though I am staying optimistic. Knowing the person that I am, I began to review in my head what could've caused the approval on the spot and I believe it is the DL (Driver's License) not being changed to the State that I now reside in. I want to wish everyone the BEST.
I felt the same way after my interview since I know NYC approves on the spot. Although the two weeks waiting for the approval confirmation was painful I ultimately got it. It may just be the way that officer operates so don't be discouraged! Good luck and I hope you hear back soon with some good news.

Well, it's Official....I passed and was approved right then and there...what a relief!!
Arrived about 9:55 for a 10:30 appointment, made it through Security without a hitch, which is a good thing.
Sat in the Waiting room for about 10 minutes before I was called in by a very nice Female Officer, she was very polite and friendly. After swearing me in she proceeded to go over my application very quickly, from there she moved on to the Civics questions of which I answered the first 6 correctly:
1) During the Cold war what was the main concern of the United States?
2) What is one reason the Colonists came to America?
3) What is one right or freedom from the 1st Amendment?
4) Who is in charge of the Executive branch?
5) If the President can no longer serve who becomes President?
6) There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them.
She made me read "Washington DC is our Capitol" and I had to write "California has the largest population"
Going over the app and questions took about 5 minutes and she handed me the N-652 stating I had passed the Civics/English test and the "Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval....the rest of the time she asked me to write down German greetings and Holidays and include translations for some kind of Greeting board they were putting together...seemed a little odd to me but I did it anyways....(has anyone ever heard of this?)
Bottom line is the worst is over and I'm looking forward to seeing my status change and receiving my Oath letter.
For all those still facing the Interview please don't fret over it...as long as you know your application, have studied the Civics questions and have a good grasp of the English language you will be fine!
I will be keeping my Fingers crossed for everyone here and if I can help in any way please let me know.

Just got back from the interview. It was very quick and I thought it went well as my case officer was friendly and professional. I did not receive immediately approval and was told that my decision would come in the mail. We did talk about the oath ceremony taking place in court across the street since I've requested a name change, so hopefully that's a good sign. I've included details for other NYCers that may find it helpful.
I got to the building at 1:30pm for a 1:50pm appointment (must enter on Broadway with appointment letter in hand) and spent about 5 minutes going through security. Checked in on two different floors and was given a number by 1:40pm. Waited in a room of about 75 people for 10 minutes until my number was called by my interview officer (only 2 minutes after my appointment time). Most of the people in the room were there before me so the order is dependent on your specific case officer. Cell phone usage is allowed in the waiting room. Overall the process is a lot less organized than the biometrics appointment.I was sworn in and then sat down. I was asked for my passport, green card, social security card, and state issued ID. We started first with the language and civics test. I read out loud the sentence "There are 100 senators" and wrote out "Alaska is the largest state." My six civics questions were:- Name one war fought by the United States in the 1900s.- Who is the Chief Justice of the United States now?- The House of Representatives has how many voting members?- We elect a U.S. Representative for how many years?- Who is the "Father of Our Country"?- In what month do we vote for President?The officer reviewed my application page by page asking me questions on each section. I highly recommend reading over the application before your interview. Once I had recited my application verbally she asked me the yes/no questions. I was asked for my tax forms so I handed over the last 4 years of federal tax transcripts. I was then asked to review some forms and sign them along with the two passport photos I sent in with the application. I received a receipt stating that I had passed the tests and that USCIS will be sending me a written decision about my application.The one thing that makes me nervous is that at the very end my officer asked why I waited so long to file for citizenship. I had already relaxed by this point thinking the interview was over and said that I liked being a Japanese citizen (so stupid). I then continued to say that before I didn't know whether I would move back to Japan but now that I've decided I would be living in the United States for the rest of my life it made sense to apply. I'm really hoping that this brain fart does not cost me my citizenship.The interview took 20 minutes and I was out of the building by 2:15pm. Now the waiting game begins again...... hoping for some good news in the near future.
