  1. We just finished our K1 visa in Costa Rica. Other than putting the direction of our apartment on the paperwork, nothing was actually ever sent or received here at our apartment. The packet 3 was via email, and we brought all documents directly to the embassy. Anything I wanted/needed from the states I shipped via DHL and just picked up at the office near me.

Our experience at the embassy was very pleasant. We were there about 3 hours in total as there was around 5-6 other people there. We were very organized and had everything they wanted, they allowed us both to interview and the entire interview process was only about 5 minutes before they told us congratulations we are approved. We were really happy to see they have a small kids play area in the waiting room, which really helped as we had our 3 year old daughter with us.

The only issues we had here in Costa Rica with the visa process was the Registro Civil giving us the digital birth certificate for our daughter, it took us 9 trips in total and having to argue with a manager to finally get the correct document. Also if you need a recommendation for a Spanish to english translator send me a PM and I will send you the number of the lady we used as she was super kind, fast, and less expensive than all the others we called.

  2. Just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for all the awesome and helpful information on this site. We mailed off our I-129F in late December, today 4/18/16 had our K-1 Visa approved. The embassy here in Costa Rica was outstanding, even allowed myself the US Petitioner in to attended the interview even though their instructions stated I wasn't allowed to. I was also asked a few questions and in about 5 min of interviewing/reviewing documents he said "well everything looks great here, we are going to go ahead and approve your visas (k1/k2). What an incredible feeling that is after the months of hard work and tons of money we put into this process. Our visas should be ready for pickup within the week and we enter the US in 11 days.

  3. Ok we have been working on a different joint sponsor, and also on my father sending paperwork for his home, as using that as an asset should cover the difference in the income. Can anyone guide me to the correct documentation he needs to send to me. Our appointment is on the 18th. We tried to reschedule and the website currently is stating no appointments are currently available. So we are in a scramble.

I tried to get a reply from the embassy specifically about the 1040 vs the Dunn & Bradstreet and their reply was anything but clear, even rather poor english at that. We are still trying if we can to reschedule if possible just to allow more times to fix this last min issue. A couple hundred to change flights is better than a denial.

From my research, A current mortgage statement and is most recent property tax statement should be enough evidence for him to list it as an asset. Is this correct?

  4. Hello, I'm super excited to say that we have our K-1 visa interview in less than a week. We have all but one document together (we have to pick one up locally tomorrow). But I have been researching a lot, trying to cross my t's and dot my I's. I have become very concerned with our I-134 affidavit of support. I personally did not meet the requirement on the income, I live here in the country with my fiance and freelance online but only worked the months of April-December for the 2015 tax season. Knowing that it wouldn't be enough I had my father join as a joint sponsor. This is where I have encountered some concerns, my father is self employed and has provided me with his most recent 1040, and a Dunn & Bradstreet business rating report. Based on the D&B report the income is more than sufficient, however on the 1040 it is below the 125% guideline. He is confident that we wont have any issues based on the D&B report, but I am really nervous about this. I have all supporting documents I need from him, bank letter, D&B report, his 1040, birth certificate. But if the line 22 on the 1040 does not meet the requirement but the D&B report is shows sufficient income will they accept it, or is there a great possibility of being denied or delayed?
